I have a few hvlp guns, although I run mine via a compressor not those system ones your looking at..

They offer good control and produce a nice finish with the plus side of being able to see what I am doing!, as I spray at home in the shed with no extraction so the lack of heavy overspray is handy..

If I were you (  I love tools ) I would buy one of those systems, looks very useful..

At the end of the day putting the paint on aint that hard, getting the prep right is where its at...

One thing to take into account is the shocking price of 2k paints, but once you have stocked up on your primers and clearcoat which is better to buy in bulk, you just get enough colour for the job and most proper paint suppliers do it in as little as 100ml...

which is why I want to practice with HVLP

the HVLP - obviously as it is in the name - put out high volumes of air . SOme of the Fuji systems (£300) can put out 120CFM; so the volume is there, but whether they would drive air tools - I dont know. Anyway, I have plenty of electic tools and so no need (or expense) to switch to air. So its just painting.

If anyone has any practical actual experience of using HVLP I would be grateful for some feedback.

120 cfm... are you sure???

Some people eh?  :rolleyes

I saw this one the other day, think it's someone's on here as I recognize the wheels (surely can't be two of them) and he seems to know what he's talking about... definitely not standard. Strangely, though of doing it to mine.

Looks pretty good too.

To me, what you are explaining is just clutch rattle..

If the noise goes away when you pull the clutch in, it is very normal for 4 cylinder engines...

I wont buy a helmet that doesn't have a sharp rating of at least 4 no matter how good the brand is...

Pic of test fit with the swingarm off
All fitted :)

My photos not so great though

I can't get the c spanner onto the pre load, so resorted to old fashioned long chunky screwdriver and rubber mallet.

If you take out the upper peg hanger bolt and crack off the lower bolt you can push it to one side making the preload adjustment a doddle with the c-spanner...

When you say it lacks rebound, is it bouncing around like a pogo?
If so its shot!!

Venom is the model name, not make, hence they are Motad Venoms.
Every now and then they put them on eBay at the reduced price, if not found on there phone them directly and ask if they have them at £170 as previously seen.

Sorry it's the Venom as Punkstig has correctly pointed out. Soz.

They are Motads but marketed under a different name so those dealers selling Motads more expensively don't get cheesed off at being undercut.

There was another thread on this exact topic recently and the other bit of information that came up is that they are only dipped once in the chrome bath, not twice as the Motads are. Other than that they are identical and made by the same people.

If this is true, it wont be a chrome plating bath, it will be Electroplating....

« on: 18 February 2014, 05:39:50 pm »
Hmmm, common problem then, hey ho! I'll try stuffing some grease down there at the weekend and giving it a good jiggle ;)

Cheers,
Rob

I have tried grease and its not the way!! It starts out ok but soon returned back to being a c*nt ..

After my most recent attempt I think I have cracked it, as it has never felt better, no more jiggling the key or turning the bars..

I filled it with wd40, let it sit for a minute and blew it out with a airline, then did it twice more for luck!!

So I don't think the barrel is worn on mine, I think it was just full of shit...

General / Re: Re-Jetting the carburettors
« on: 14 February 2014, 07:51:22 pm »
My understanding on the pops on overrun is caused because closing the throttle is putting the carbs into the idle (pilot) circuit which doesn't  supply enough fuel to match the engine speed, a standard exhaust combats this with back pressure which slows down the flow so the pops arnt heard??

I don't think a engine running lean on overrun is anything to worry about because its not under load...

Best way to check if your bike is running lean is to check the plugs..

I would get a k&n mate, it has a lower profile which makes getting it in easier and also has a build in nut on the end to aid fitting

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Nitron
« on: 05 February 2014, 06:43:57 pm »
I have the Nitron Sport fitted to my mighty Fazer Thou and the difference over the original is vast, obviously these are tailor made to suit your riding style and weight etc.........much better than a stolen recovered (get it up ye Luke) refurbished R6 in my opinion.....looks good in blue too

Looks very nice but....

What makes the Nitron sport "much better" than the R6 unit??

Is it the basic dampening control or lack of slow compression adjustment compared to the R6 unit or like you said the colour? :lol :lol

The bet the only tailored bit is matching the spring to your weight....

The thing I really do like is the fact that the shock can be easily lengthened also the design allowing the ends to be changed to fit another bike...

Noggy mate, you are tripping!!!

You cannot compare an R6 shock to that thing Hagon make...

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Paint colour codes/suppliers
« on: 27 January 2014, 07:15:40 pm »
Any automotive paint supplier will be able to mix the paint to the code or even better the actual bike if your not re spraying the whole thing..

If your dad hand is a painter he will not be using rattle cans, if he wants to, look else wear!

Air drying paints are inferior to two part paints when it comes to durability and uv protection...
