sidestand cut out.
« on: 06 November 2014, 03:34:14 pm »
Hiya.  My sidestand cut out has stopped working. Thinking it must be the switch I got a second hand one on ebay which apparently is in good working order.  Plugged it in to test it and still no good. Any tests I could do or could it be the cut out relay behind the left hand side panel ? Cheers.

What are the symptoms you have?

Still letting you put it in gear with the side stand down?
Still letting you start the bike with it in gear and side stand up but clutch pulled in?

Out of curiosity, how did you come to the conclusion?

Yes you can put it in gear with the stand down and pull away but it wont start in gear unless clutch is pulled in. Well I was in my local bike shop and the guy said it was probably the switch and as a second hand one was only £12 I thought it was worth a punt.

Yes.switch or wiring then. Look in hot poop for the manuals and check the wiring diagrams.

Most problem with the side stand switch is from corrosion of the contacts inside the switch Quite possible that the replacement switch is faulty also. Have you checked the replacement switch with a meter or test lamp?
Contact cleaner or WD40 sprayed into the switch from the moving piece and operating it many time should get it working again.
Try bypassing the side stand switch by looping the two wires in the wiring loom side connector and see if it starts.
