Seen it all now,I ordered oil & filter on line and it came today in a fucking cardboard box! it's called a lube cube and you push a perforated part of the box and pull this moody top out which is attached to a polythene bag of oil then pour it out.To be fair it did work ok with my lovely wife holding the funnel but it all seemed a bit cheap and cheerful to me,it's supposed to be good for the environment so I suppose we'd better get used to it. ;)

« on: 25 February 2021, 03:43:16 pm »
I lost another bolt today, this is the second one that's come out and I'm beginning to suspect that the last time I had work done not everything was tightened up as it should be.

I have now gone round and checked everything I can see is tight.

Question is I can't see how I can get the nut on the end of this bolt even with the fairing side fillers out, it's nut number 35 and bolt number 34 in the picture, any ideas?

'kin hell!! there's no way I'd have took it back to that garage,it's so obvious someone there has made a balls up,whether it's Guy Martins mech or Fred Bloggs. That could have been bad news in the wrong situation and if you'd had an accident and had to be taken to hospital the filth would have been all over the bike and put it down to your neglect ! I'd make some excuse and get it back you'll be wondering everytime you go out on it if they've done the jobs right! :eek

I'm the complete opposite,a proper fair weather rider  :lol  just ordered oil and filter for the start of "my" season,I don't do that many miles, normally 1000 a year but they reckon the oil contaminates using it like that then laying it up for 5/6 mths so I change it and give the oil to any of the local young bods to use because it can't be that bad and them boys are out in all weathers day and night just like we used to  :thumbup

Didn't get my facts right about Chris Vincent being the only british rider to win a TT sidecar race on a british machine in 1962,quit a few british riders won sidecar races at the TT in the early pre-war and post-war years, mainly on Nortons.I was referring to the more modern era when sidecar races were dominated by Rennsport BMW's which were pretty much unbeatable at the time at the TT and GP's,sorry. :\

Sorry to hear of the death of the great Chris Vincent. I was born in Sparkhill,Birmingham only a stones throw away from the B.S.A. factory and when we were kids we used to go down there and see if we could get up the wooden hill which was part of the test track on our bikes or go down it the wrong way on our soap box carts,of course this was only when the place was shut after work hours when the bike testers weren't going round,as I got older and more interested in bikes I'd sometimes  wag off school and spend hours watching them testing the latest models and was always disappointed if it was a day of bantam testing or C15's when I wanted to see the rockets and goldies etc,of course I wouldn't have known what the models were at the time but soon got to know them and sometimes Chris Vincent would be there with his outfit,to be fair he never took any notice of me and would often tell us to bugger off and stop gawking and hanging about. I'd just mooch off somewhere where he couldn't see me and wait till he went round and I found a great place by the cricket pavilion to watch him and I remember actually being frightened by the sound and speed with which he came passed, but I would always watch him from there after that. The strangest thing was he never had a passenger in with him when he was there, just himself.I think he's still the only person to have won a sidecar TT race on a british bike in 1962 a B.S.A. of course ! When I started to go to Mallory with my older brother I would go into the paddock and hope he recognised me from those early days but he never did,I always wanted him to win though I felt like I knew him, silly ay? R.I.P. Chris

General / Re: Which Optimate?
« on: 14 February 2021, 07:52:55 pm »
Guys, I need to get another Optimate (current one is being used to keep my car alive) and there's a surprising number of different models now.

Presuming none of my vehicles have lithium batteries (3 bikes and 2 cars) newest being a 2016 but I checked and that has a lead acid type battery, which Optimate should I go for?

When I bought my current one there was only a choice of 6v or 12v so it was an easy decision to make.

I would need to use the new one on my FZ1S and a 2012 Audi so it has to do both - any recommendations?

I bought their anniversary model about 12/18 mths ago ,I've found it perfect for keeping a charge over winter, don't know if you can get this model but it only had a couple of fancy features over the std one and both come with a lead to come off the battery and out under the seat so you can just cable tie it neatly to the frame and plug in and out instead of taking the seat on and off. :thumbup
