Springs come out seperately. If you're REALLY good you don't need to drop the forks out.

Did le Havre to Rome on the 1000 non stop.
Crampbuster for the throttle, decent screen for protection and slightly jacked pegs which took the weight off the base of the spine.
Did my place to Rome in 22 hrs.

stop bloody worrying and ride the damn thing.
as long as you are getting 13+v with the lights on you're fine unless you have a crap battery.
mine runs at 12.9 at tick over and 13.7 when i rev it and 12.3 no load.

Bought my 1000 7 years ago as a cat c.
Tank, end can, fairing and forks were damaged.
R1 front end fitted and colours matched and never had a problem.
Common sense should dictate if a bike is safe to ride.
A kinked frame rail or a crack in the paint on the frame are all good indications.

God son failed his 1st driving test crossing  the white line at a red light moving for a popo car.
Examiner said it was bad luck and common sense to move but also against the law.

fair play there's some bollox spouted about suspension here.....most peeps on here only change their fork oil when the seal blows........BTW i used to work for Jim Moodie, so know a thing or 2 about spanner wanking
Wind your neck in mate  :rolleyes You've only been on these forums a couple of months
err............i've been on here since 2010, and yuku before then, just as someone else.
and who died and left you in charge anyway?

Why do I need to be in charge to find your attitude and personal comments about myself and other forum members offensive? As for bollox being spouted about suspension I find that pretty hypocritical given your comment in the dog-bone thread that I had to correct for you.

BTW If you have a legitimate reason for changing your forum name the administrators can do this for you as per Hedgetrimmer and you get to keep your post count.
Righto fucknuts
Hypocrite eh. My statement was correct. If you lengthen the dog bones it softens the suspension.
I made no allusion to whether or not it raises or lowers the rear ride height.
And as for my new identity, i don't give a flying fuck about post counts, if someone has something interesting or informative to say, listen, don't judge on their post count. Falcon269 only ever started with 1 post.
Ps I hope you're offended this time.

the r6 units damping is set for a 350lb bike, so fitting it onto a 450lb fazer is a bit of an ask. luckily the spring rate is ideal for a fazer so the damping has an easy time of it (on the road at least).
i'm back with a standard re gassed/oiled and resprung oe unit after my r6 unit died on track.
the units supplied by luke are 0 mileage units so the oil is nice and fresh so you feel the benefit immediately. i doubt many will last 10k before they get squishy, but at least the spring rate will still be close so will mask most of the symptoms.
FYI the r6 has a 40mm chamber vs 46mm for the fazer.
regarding separate damping circuits, for serious work then yes you need separate circuits to maximise tyre usage, however for road use, a 2:1 ratio is close enough........providing the spring is right.
spring first, then the damping.
furthermore, the TTX units are 36mm chambers and ohlins recommend they are rebuilt every year. the finer adjustment, the more you have to look after it. most peeps on here only change their fork oil when the seal blows.

there's a good reason why firms like k tech, maxton are in business.

Theres a good reason companies like Yamaha are in business. Afterall they put the stock shock in there in the first place. They spend hundreds of thousands in R&D and have teams of specialists design and set up a motorbike to work exactly as it should.
Then the average joe whos buys it decides it's not good enough and changes parts out for something they deem to be 'better'

the reason maxton et al are in business are because firms like yamaha get it wrong so often. why else would they sell a fazer with a spring rate set for 10st.
dynojet had a record year in 2006/7 sorting out the fz1 fuelling.
would you like some savlon for those burns

I am sure you will add to or even dispute some of these but I am proud of the fact that in 50 years of motoring I have never caused nor been involved in a serious accident.

you sir, are simply not trying hard enough!

changing the length of the dog bones also changes the rate of compression of the rear shock. iirc it softens it up if you lengthen them.
so not only do you have to be concerned about ride height, but also spring rate and damping.
dropping the forks just changes the weight distribution and steering qualities.

it's called mechanical sympathy.
you have a crank spinning at 8k rpm, transmitting power to a shaft probably rotating at 8k too (depending onyour primary gearing), then to another shaft which dependant on gearing could be spinning up to 14k rpm. this then goes through your front sprocket and drive chain.
if you enjoy replacing chain and sprockets and quite possibly the odd gearbox then stamp down the box..........or become a smoother rider
