Title: Givi Wingrack2 '01 incompatibility with '99 bike
Post by: Pandy on 19 March 2017, 04:00:04 pm
Hi friends,

Did anyone hit a problem like mine?
I bought the rack 2 months ago and tried this weekend to put it.
My old lady it's a '99, the rack (2001 from seller description) is the one sold here: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,21616.msg248956.html#msg248956 (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,21616.msg248956.html#msg248956)

I attached 4 photos, the silver bike is from Google. The other one it's mine.

From what I see, obvious, the arms which should fit the passenger pegs are too long. From other pictures I found on Google, pegs position looks the same, and didn't think that Yamaha will modify the bike in just 2 years. Probably in real life it is.

Do anyone has any idea what is my option to fit the '01 long bars into the '99 lady?

i have no history of using these but look carefully - the link bars are totally different (there is a extra bend)
the sellers fazer may have been non standard hangers etc
- as it doesnt fit it might be time for vice/blowtorch/hammer alteration

I just removed a Wingrack from my 2003 Fazer and it attached the same as the Silver bike. Are the rear pegs in a different place for the different years?

I reckon the previous owner had lower pegs and bent it, as they should be the same.

I didn't find any infos about any modification on tale or pegs for different years.
Bretty, you have a good idea, maybe that was the situation.
So, if I'll bend them again, will be any problem? I have in mind to do this when the arms are hot.

The later model Fazers had different pillion pegs, my mate fitted later rear pegs as he thought it was more comfortable for pillion, could that be the case for the link to the rack?

Hard to tell from the angles, but to me the one on the silver bike looks higher overall.   Should there be spacers under where you mounted the top bolts?

the later bikes do have lower pillion pegs but not that much lower.
The link arm on the red bike looks to be a different shape to the one on the silver bike. Maybe the previous owner modified it.

This is also what i'm thinking, a previous modification.

Been there, done that on my '98.
Providing those side arms aren't modified...
To fit the wingrack to the earliest 98-99 bikes, you need the pillion hangers from later 2000-03 bikes, the pegs have a rubber base and sit about 35mm lower.
Once you have the later hangers fitted, it should all fit with a fair bit of jiggling (and re-jiggling).  Don't bolt any part up tight - you'll almost certainly have to undo it until everything is fully lined up.
Then you'll find that with side cases fitted, there's barely anywhere for a pillion to put their feet ...but we'll cross that bridge should you come to it

Pandy - we can't help I'm afraid without the 5-9mm scale.

This is the best thing I can do.

The first measure is for the 4 ”big” spacers.
Image 1: external diameter - 160mm
Image 2: lengh - 140mm
Image 3: internal diameter - 85mm from my estimation.

Second measure - 3 ”little” spacers

Both, the 4 previous spacers and this 3 are made from metal.

Image 1: external diameter - 140mm
Image 2: lengh - 141(maybe 2)mm
Image 3: internal diameter - 85mm from my estimation.

Next, the rubber spacer. Got 3 of those.

Image 1: lengh - 30-31mm
Image 2: external diameter - 330mm
Image 3: internal diameter - 165mm.

Last one, sponge spacer. 4 of them.

Image 1: lengh - 80-81mm
Image 2: external diameter - 375mm
Image 3: internal diameter 144-145mm.

I know that 1cm = 10mm, but I wrote the measurements with another 10 after just for I could write without .5. Example: on this reply, 375 is realy 3,75 cm or 37,5mm.
