Drillers funeral today
« on: 23 January 2014, 05:26:21 pm »
Hi all
Just got back from drillers funeral. Lashed it down all the way to his house ( 75 miles), mini feat of endurance. GS was well up to it though , this is its element. The house was full of family and friends, he knew a lot of folk along his life. Met his son alexander, over from the states, a tall spitting image of John for sure. 5 bikes came, including myself, matty , jase, debs and steve pring , one of the longest serving fazer owner. He travelled from Tunbridge Wells. Amazing .
The service was preceeded by us revving our bikes up while the hearse slowly moved past ,a fitting tribute to John on his final journey. The service itself was very personal, and very moving. We all struggled to stop the eyes leaking I can tell you. We learned so much about John from the eulogy , like he was European Hang gliding champion , before he got into bikes in a big way.It was one of the most apt funeral services I have ever seen, and whilst we all were so sad at his passing , it was very fitting.
The wake was held at the house, and John had always complained about " funeral food"...so we had a pig roast ! Fantastic food, best wishes to the family for their incredible hospitality.A dear friend , he will always be remembered . RIP

Hi
Not long got back after a very chilly ride back. At least it was dryer than the ride down.
I think you summed the occasion up very well Jon. Such a nice family and made us all very welcome and I felt very honoured being part of the courtege to John's final journey.
Still thawing out as I type, now were did my nuts go!
RIP John.

You said it all Jon... A very remarkable man indeed. In fact when I got home that afternoon I listened to the Blade Runner sound track CD while I washed my bike. Also one of my favourite films...

A very fitting send off with his lovely family and friends...

It was also good to catch up with some old foccers and despite this sad occasion, it has inspired me to make time and keep in touch more...

RIP John on your highway to heaven...  ;)

Only met the man once. Thanks for sharing Jon and other folks.

To Driller. You can go as fast as you like now as your Guardian Angels will always be with you. RIP Fella.

Some say that he eats habanero chilli peppers dipped in oil of capsaicin for extra bite and that his pyjamas are made from Nomex. All we know is, he's called Ad the Bad

Just found this snapshot clip of our great day out at Bruntingthorpe.
Fazers at Bruntingthorpe 2

You can just see a quick glimpse (very quick) of a younger, slimmer Pitternator (sorry Jon) and a slightly blurred one of Driller having a crafty fag at 0.13/14  :lol
Brought back great memories.
Got some stills somewhere, but can't find them at them moment.

Hi all,

This is Driller's son, Alexander. Thanks to everyone who made it out on Thursday to the funeral. Jon summed up the day well but I wanted to pass on our family's heartfelt thanks to you all again. It was great to meet you all - I've heard about the adventures he got up to with the foccers since I moved to the states.

We thought the day went just the way he would have wanted it, from the bike outriders with the cortege to the jumping around to Runrig at the service to the gang of us surrounding his FJR trying to figure out how to start it (thanks Nooj!).

It goes without saying, if any of you find yourselves on the East coast of the states and want a riding partner, let me know and I'll bring my FZ-1 along!

Hello Alexander, I liked your father a lot and he will be greatly missed, please may I extend my condolences and respect to you and the family on your loss. Over the years he and I had many a chat at various meets and he was always a lovely man to talk to.

Nearly four years ago I had a bad accident at work putting me in hospital for three months whilst my fractured back mended itself. During that time your dad travelled up to Coventry a couple of times on his bike to visit and support me, something I will never forget because it meant a lot at the time. He had a lot of very good friends on this site and will always be remembered.
Best Wishes.
