New Rider
« on: 29 June 2017, 06:38:18 pm »
Hi all,

I'm Timbo, usually on the Fazer 1000 forum :lol !

Opinions please. My wife to be is about to pass her test (she better had or else) would a Gen 2 FZ6 be new rider friendly? All things considered I think she will make a good rider in time so I would have thought she would be okay on one although I understand they are a bit frisky?

Are there any major issues with them?

Is there anything I need to know before I go looking for one?

Thanks

Bw

Ooops...I've just realised there is the box eye Gen1, a Gen2(?) with a similiar nose fairing to my thou and the new FZ6 which is what I was thinking of. However opinions of both Gen2 and FZ6 would be useful!!

Thanks

Timbo  :)

The best all rounder  orf the three s the Foxeye model 600 (what you call the Gen2 600) available in 2002 (Blue or yellow) this had Yamaha on the tank  and 2003 (Red, Blue or Silver) which had the tuning fork emblem on the tank.
Price would be around £1500 to £2500 depending on mileage

I've been riding the FZ6 (first edition) since I passed my test and I've never regretted it :thumbup

Just downsized to an 09 FZ6 S2, always had big 1000cc bikes (inc a gen1 fazer thou) but recently I've been feeling the need to slow things down a bit so bought the FZ, what a great little bike, ticks all the box's for me, I've been riding for 37 years and in my experience the bike is great for a new rider and experienced rider alike, not too tall either, I'm 5'11 and I can get both feet on the ground :lol

The Gen 2 (known as the foxeye) came with a bigger tank, and I think stainless steel exhaust. Lights are also superior to the Gen 1 boxeye. The FZ6 S2 model is the pick of the FZ6s, comes with abs and better brakes than the FZ6, and a much nicer looking swingarm. I rag my FZ6 S2 around donington park on trackdays without any problems

Hi Timbo.

I have had a few FZ6's over the years. Never had any problems with any of them.

Just recently down sized from Gen 1 Fazer 1000 to a FZ6 S2. A cracking little bike it does everything very well. (for me)

I find it nice and light, not to high, its nimble handles well, comfy, you don't have to rev the balls off it to make good progress, but if you do it goes like stink.

For me the best of both worlds.

I think it would make a very pleasant easy bike for a new rider.

I prefer the S2, better clocks, alloy swingarm, etc. They don't all have abs, personally I prefer them without.

Good luck with the test and finding her a nice bike to enjoy.

Cheers.  :)
