General / Orlando in July?
« on: 25 March 2016, 10:23:17 pm »
I'm under pressure from SWMBO and kids to book Florida for a summer holiday - I'm not convinced!

Anyone got experience of going through Virgin (holidays not anything else....)? I'm sure the parks will be heaving and mega hot/sweaty!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Second Fazer 1000 now gone :-(
« on: 07 September 2015, 07:39:22 pm »
Well after 12 months of (mostly) enjoyable commuting on the trusty Fazer (especially after getting Mike's Full Monty wizardry) I've changed jobs and no longer "need" a second bike for commuting. I'm only 7 miles from the new job and it has plenty of car parking spaces and I sadly just couldn't justify keeping 2 bikes. The fazer would not have been used which isn't good for it. I was going to advertise it on here but I got talking to a guy at the bike shop the other day and he bought it straight away when he heard it was going to be for sale! He's got a cracker - only 15000 miles on it, full monty, R6 shock, Quill exhaust, heated grips etc!

Now that I've had 2 Fazers I wouldn't rule out getting a third at some point!

I've got some bits n bobs which I'll get advertised in the for sale section:
  • New unused Renthal 15 tooth front sprocket
  • Used 42 tooth rear sprocket (was on the bike when I bought it and I changed for a new standard 44 straight away!)
  • Used 44 tooth rear sprocket (still plenty of life left in it)
  • Standard rear shock + spring (14K miles on it)
  • Flip up clear screen
  • Standard grips
  • Standard exhaust
  • Haynes manual

General / Caught speeding but actual speed not listed on form
« on: 20 August 2015, 07:55:14 am »
I was caught near Tyndrum, Scotland on Tuesday night - was stopped doing 80 in a 60  :o

Only thing was they didn't write the actual speed on the ticket - it just says "Ride at   mph in 60mph limit".

Now could I make things worse by fighting it or just take it on the chin...? Licence is was clean so no big deal to have 3 points unless it's a clear invalid ticket and a no-brainer to contest!

Anyone got experience of incorrectly filled out tickets (especially in Scotland)?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Bung-less Crash bung
« on: 02 October 2014, 09:57:18 pm »
Was pootling along the dual carriageway (70mph max m'laud) on my way home tonight when  I felt something hit my left foot. Thought it had come off the car in front but when I got home I realised it was actually the bung from the LHS frame crash bung - so I'm now left with just the blue backing plate  :o

Don't spose anyone has a spare bung - or knows if you can buy the bungs separately?

Now that I've got my second Fazer 1000 I need to sell my 2005 CBR600F.

I bought this from Ride On recently for commuting on but have frustratingly found it too tight on my damaged left knee and I'm sore after only a few miles on it - hence the push to get a thou!

The bike has a new smoked double bubble fitted (the standard screen will also be included in the sale) but apart from that the bike is totally standard and in great condition. Tyres and brakes have loads of life in them and there is also a scottoiler fitted.

The bike is MOT'd until May 2015 (no advisory points on MOT), has road tax until end Nov and was serviced less than 2,000 miles ago so it's good to go. Both keys are present and I have an Experian check from August showing no HPI or any other issues. Stevie at Ride On will also vouch for this bike and for me (known him for years!) as will several of the (ahem) 'older' members of the Fazer 1000 community!

I looked around for quite a while before buying this CBR600F and there wasn't (and still isn't) any within a couple of hundred miles of me (Glasgow) that come close to this one. Looking for £3,500 ono

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / I'm back
« on: 19 September 2014, 10:31:02 am »
After several years away I've just collected my second fazer 1000. I managed to get what I hope is a cracker - it's a 2003 silver model with only 13K miles on the clock. It'll be even better once Mike has worked his magic on it  :D

Don't s'pose there are any Bournemouth peeps able to have a look at this for me over the next couple of days?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Possible return to the Fazer 1000 clan
« on: 19 August 2014, 12:51:45 pm »
Hi folks,

I'm considering changing my 2004 FZ6 for a Fazer 1000. I owned a 2001 model for 9 yrs and loved it but was seduced by an interest free Repsol Blade (she is a tart!). I've been looking here to try to get the "right" one but haven't quite got there yet. I'd like a 2004/2005 model with < 20,000 miles on the clock, ideally Ivanised already but that may not be needed if I can sort a bike and grab one of Mike's Scotland slots! I'm looking to spend up to £2,500 but prefer closer to £2,000. Black or silver is preferred but won't rule out the others. I'm prepared to travel a bit for the right bike (within reason).

Options are to try to get one privately then sell the FZ6 privately or see what I can get through a dealer. Do you reckon I'm aiming too low and need to up the max price to get the right bike?

Thanks,

Kenny

P.S. Big hello to all the "oldies" that know me from before  :b

FZS600 Fazer / Rear wheel stiff to turn
« on: 30 July 2014, 01:58:49 pm »
I asked this in the FZ6 forum but nothing back there so trying in here as well :-)

Not sure if I have a problem with my 2004 FZ-6 or not. When on the centre stand the rear wheel felt very stiff to turn by hand. I took the wheel off and cleaned up (took out and scrubbed) the chain adjusters etc which were all crudded up after a couple of winter's use  :o

I regreased the axle and put it all back together and was hopeful it was sorted as all felt good before I tightened the axle nut up. It is now better than it was but is still stiffer than I think it should be. The rear pads definitely aren't binding so any ideas what could be causing this to stiffen up? The chain is also not too tight - tested with bike off centre stand as well and it's still got some play in it.

It feels fine to ride but I'm not happy it isn't spinning as freely as I think it should - any ideas?

FZ6 / Fazer / Seat lock seized - ideas?
« on: 11 November 2013, 11:32:27 pm »
Need to get my seat off my 2004 FZ6 but the lock seems to been totally seized up (winter crud no doubt). It's had a good spray with WD40 but the key refuses to turn at all (yes it's the correct key - it's worked in the past!).

Any ideas how to get the seat off before snapping my key?

General / Hot tub hire - any experiences?
« on: 27 August 2013, 09:39:42 am »
Non-biking subject sorry but just in case anyone here has experience of these...

Thinking of hiring a hot tub for the weekend as part of my daughter's 13th birthday party. A company in Glasgow charge £180 for a "5 day" hire (setup on Thurs, collect on Mon). Anyone know if these hires are good/bad etc?

FZ6 / Fazer / Sticking gear lever - sorted
« on: 24 November 2012, 12:14:47 pm »
My FZ6 had developed a bit of an issue when changing gears over the last week. Sometimes the gear level wouldn't return properly and it was stuck in gear - not great when you end up coming towards junctions in 4th gear and can't get it changed down! Looking through the forum I thought there may be an issue with the spring(s) in the gearbox but thought I would pop in to Dynotech Ecosse in Hillington to let them have a look. Turned out it was simply that the gear level pivot bolt needed to be taken out, cleaned, greased and put back. Sorted - and with no charge! Top blokes in there.

FZ6 / Fazer / Headlamp replacement on 2004 FZ6
« on: 11 February 2012, 05:30:45 pm »
Headlamp replacement on 2004 FZ6 - ignore Mr Haynes  :b

The headlamp bulb blew when I started the bike up at work last night so had to ride home 14 miles with full beam on - sorry cage drivers!

Debated getting standard replacement bulbs from the stealers but decided to pop in to Halfords when I was out anyway - picked up one of these to give it a go.
Being a mechanical dunce I looked at the Haynes manual and it said to take the fairing cowling off. Fk that I thought and got the fat fingers in there - it was a bit fiddly but the plug came off ok, bulb clip was fine to get off and bulb came out no bother - fitting the new one was just a bit fiddly but only took 5 mins - job done without taking the fairing off. The bulb looks pretty good tbh - with full beam on it's about the same light coming out of both sides - will see what it's like in the dark next week when I'm back at work.

So don't always trust the manual!
