Title: How much for a service ?
Post by: Bubs348 on 23 February 2014, 09:16:55 am
Fellow Foca's I popped into my local bike dealer, St Neots, Cambridgshire and asked how much for a basic service on my 2006 FZ1 Fazer. £250 quid was the reply !!!!!  Oil and filter, check the brakes, copper slip grease and check the bike over, 2 to 3 hours work.
Is it just me or is that taking the piss. Any ideas on a better ( cheaper ) to get a service.

Do it youself - will take all of about an hour, hour and a half tops, and might cost maybe £50 all in?

Seems high when most of the stuff could be done at home.

But in terms of comparison I have no idea, my bike only goes on for MOTs everything else is a learning experience with the help of a Haynes manual!

Out of interest does that price include new oil, filters, spark plugs ect?

I paid £90 for a basic oil, filter, and full check over which includes checking chain brakes etc etc at a quality independent. (He's a renowned Ducati specialist but does all makes and does it to the book and beyond) so £250 sounds a little steep.
My Hayabusa's last service at Suzuki main dealer was £300 and that was a major so I'd re-negotiate.

Cheers for the replies, the only problem with DIY service is the service history, but I agree £250 way to high,

I know doing it ourselves is good and fun and all that but theres still a place for dealer servicing...i mean what ifyou're  just too busy or cant be arsed and these dealers supposedly need the business.

But prices like this are totally counterproductive.

But folk must be paying it :(

Too busy.....At £250 I think I'd consider losing a days pay and give myself whole day to Diy followed by a good ride and I'd still be quids in

A workshop local to me charge £150 plus parts but that's for a main service, oil/filter, coolant, brake fluid, calipers split/pistons out, valve check, carb balance, etc.

I would allow  about £100 for a basic , £ 200 for an interim and about £350 for a major inc valve check at an independent garage , add about a £100 to each of those at a main dealers .

I wouldn't be too worried about service history on an 8 yr old bike either to be honest.

Boo hoo. £281 for a 30K service + MOT and I still have a busted exup cable (that I didn't know about going in).

Another plus for Fazer 8....no Exup tp seize or break! Been quoted between £300 & £350 for 12,000 service inc oils, plugs, coolant etc with loan bike/scooter, need to do as still under warranty, though if Deefer uses Yamaha parts that would qualify surely....? :b

Yep, but you don't even need OEM parts IIRC. Eurpean ruling of a few yrs back.
