FZS600 Fazer / Motad stainless headers
« on: 15 June 2015, 07:16:14 pm »
Been looking for some cheap stainless headers for my Foxeye ever since the MoT man said he should have failed my bike (but he's a mate) because of the headers rioting through at the collector and blowing.
Kept an eye on eBay for some for a while now, but they don't come up that often, Motad-UK were selling some at £199 a set, but that was still a little rich for me. There was a new but unfitted set for sale but I was outbid, then noticed the Motad-UK ones were saying last one left, so I was thinking of biting the bullet and getting some, as with my luck there wouldn't be any around come MoT time. Then I got an email from ebay with a discount code, bought the last set of pipes and spent less than the S/H set I was bidding on. Happy days!

General / Supplier who got it wrong
« on: 08 June 2015, 09:38:00 pm »
Now, I'm still in dialogue with the supplier, and if get an apology I'll not name them, but they deal on Ebay, and when I ordered my parts, the ad said that delivery would be 'on or before Friday 22nd May , now they didn't turn up until Tuesday, (Monday being the bank holiday).
When leaving feedback I posted a neutral, saying that the delivery was not on the expected date..

I got a message today asking me to change it (which you can't)
When I replied saying that as the ad said delivery on Friday, that's what I expected.
His response was to call me a liar and an imbecile.
When I replied that his boss wouldn't want him talking to paying customers that way, he came back saying he WAS the boss.

I guess customer service is well and truly dead.

I could, but after 25,000 miles they were getting past their peak!

New plugs fitted and tick is gone.

CR9E is the correct plug, the number denotes the heat range, ie the length of the insulator nose.
The plugs are not sealed when fitted so there will be some corrosion to the nut.
Yours don't look too bad for colour, but if you don't know the history I would replace them anyway with the correct plugs.

You sure it's not cam chain noise, that'll go away when the oil is warmed up.
Sounds a bit like a sewing machine.
If it's still there when I start it up again, I'll carry on looking, but I'm sure that the plug that loose would do it.

FZS600 Fazer / Tick from cold
« on: 06 April 2015, 07:45:40 pm »
Since I got my foxeye at 18000 miles there has always been a slight ticking when cold that goes away when warm. I finally got round to checking the valve clearances (24000 miles) and they were all in spec.
What I did find is that number 2 spark plug was not even finger tight, I'm betting this is the source of my tick. I know I should have done a complete nut and bolt check when I first got the thing, but why do people who don't know how tight things should be do work on their bikes, if you can't tighten a spark plug up then you really should be taking it to the dealers for servicing.

The upside is that they are the same plugs I'm using in my XRX, so I've just ordered some in bulk.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: getting more fuel in the tank?
« on: 31 March 2015, 01:33:11 pm »
This is the biggest bugbear with my Fazer, I can spend about five minutes waiting for the bubbles so I can squeeze another litre or two in.

I thought of carrying a little S shaped tube to vent the top of the tank when filling up.

Mine didn't have the stickers on the fairing when I bought it but thought it would look better with them on (mine actually was crashed and repaired)
Where can I get some from?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Removing gear indicator, part required
« on: 08 January 2015, 07:38:52 pm »
These are the parts you need

Neutral Switch part number is 1AE−82540−00 and maybe an oil seal part number 93210−29196

If the wire to the switch was cut to fit the led indicator you may also need the cable 5RT−82541−00

These parts should be available from a breaker
Cheers mate that's exactly the information I needed
The original wire is still screwed to the replacement switch, in addition to the cable for the gear indicator, so just the switch and seal will do me.

Thanks again

For Sale & Wanted / FZS600 Nuetral indicator sensor wanted
« on: 03 January 2015, 09:11:31 pm »
I need a standard neutral sensor to replace the gear indicator one that I'm removing from my 2002 FZS600.

Or the part number so I can order one.
Cheers

I realise the gear position sensor is not an original part, what I'm after is the standard neutral position sensor plate that has been replaced on my bike when the gear indicator was fitted. Has anyone got one spare or can supply the part number please?

I had a look on there but I can seem to locate the sensor.

I can find the shift drum that it goes on the end of, but no sensor, the electrical page is just about ignition stuff.

Could you point me to the sensor?

Does anyone have one or know the part number I need?

Seeing as the clocks have gone back, and I don't have a manual or handbook, can anyone tell me how to change the clock?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: How to spot an aftermarket fairing
« on: 20 October 2014, 01:45:52 pm »
I do have the infill panels and my fairing appears to be ABS not glass.

I suppose I'll have to look elsewhere for my road noise issue.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Road noise
« on: 16 October 2014, 01:11:53 pm »
Well, as an update.

I replaced the speedo drive with the new plastic/ceramic hybrid jobbie, and replaced the front wheel bearings as well. Took it for a spin and the road noise was still there, now accompanied by a high pitch squealing. I replaced the bearings again in case I had a bad one, and greased the inside of the new speedo drive.
The road noise is still as it was, but the squeal has gone.

So no further forward. It is a bit distracting, but as I've replaced the bits that could cause a catastrophe, I guess I'll live with it for now.
Might try a spin without the fork guards in case they are making the noise, or try a different wheel/tyre combo.

Why do you think your one is fake?
I knew that the fairing was a replacement when I bought it a month or so ago. the decals were missing and the paint, although a very good match wasn't of the same quality as the rest of the bike.
I have this road noise issue from the front, and wondered if the after market fairings made more noise or amplified the tyre/road noise more than stock.
Mine is ABS rather than glass, so I'm assuming it's genuine for now.

« on: 15 October 2014, 01:38:40 pm »
I'm beginning to suspect my 2002 foxeye has an aftermarket fairing fitted.
Is there a way to tell between the cheap ebay ones and the genuine article?

Is there anywhere else where the key code is marked? I don't have a handbook, or the master key. I know on some bikes the code is marked on the helmet or seat lock itself.

Just got this from the bridgestone site for 023s on FZS600 2002. That was so obviously a mistake in your print out, why would all the rears be 2.9 except one.

Looks like the XJR1300 torque arm is the same as the Thundercat item, can anyone confirm?
XJR ones seem to go for quite a bit less.

I saw it on Gumtree for £1,400 but think they had it on Biketrader for £1,500. The lower price was a bit more than I wanted to pay given condition but they wouldn't budge.

Happy with what you paid for it?
I paid less than those two prices but more than you did for yours.

Everything is relative, the money I paid for it was from an insurance payout for my ratty ZRX400, If someone had offered me this Fazer and £100 for my Rex I would have thought them deranged. So yes, more than happy with what I have for the money. The cosmetics don't worry me too much as it's  a commuting tool, I haven't even washed it yet.
