Title: Advance Train Tickets
Post by: YamFazFan on 02 November 2019, 11:56:24 am
Struggling to find an answer to this one.
If you buy a train ticket for say a month in advance from a ticket office at the train station, do you pay the same discounted price that you would if purchasing the same ticket online?.
Ta muchly.

There's an excellent guide to getting cheap train tickets on the Money Saving Expert website:

Don't think so. The key to cheap advance tickets is committing to travel on a specific timed train. What I do is buy advance tickets online, then immediately go and pick the tickets up from my local station's ticket machine.

By this method I'm doing London to Birmingham NEC for Motorcycle Live later this month, for £13 Return  :)

Yeah that's what I'd been attempting.

It's for travel at the end of this month. I'd found the cheap advance tickets I wanted, at the specific travel times, but the online payment has failed on the four times I've tried since last Sunday :wall .
Anyway I've called in at the station this afternoon and purchased the exact same advance tickets over the counter at the same price as offered online. Result :woot

No neither did I until this afternoon :lol . Advance ticketing is well worth doing though isn't it. Your London-Birmingham return trip is great value :thumbup

Yep, it costs £70 for 3 years, but if you use the trains a lot, you can save a fortune.
Actually I qualify for a 'disabled' railcard, just because I (sometimes) wear a hearing aid. Bigger benefit is that it only costs £54, and I can also get the third off for an accompanying person as my 'carer'  :)
