KMFDM
Industrial metal all the way
If not KMFDM  then a bit of Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein or Oomph! will do

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: New to a Fazer
« on: 28 October 2017, 12:43:36 pm »
Sorry to resurrect this old topic, seemed more fiiting to what I'm saying than starting a new one.

Had my Fazer 8 for a few days now. Initial thoughts, having come from a Street Triple R, is it's far less frantic, power delivery although still there is far smoother & comfort wise it's like being back in a favourite old armchair. Compared to the STR the bike feels huge & bulky but I realise that's just my imagination as it fits up the alley at the side of the house easier. The half fairing to me makes me feel like I'm on a big faired Electra Glide Harley, but again I know it's all in the mind. It's a very laid back ride compared to the STR but can turn it on when it needs to. I haven't noticed the lull in power at around 5000rpm that I've read about, but maybe that's just my riding style.

In terms of mods/ upgrades I'm considering crash bungs, engine protectors, radiator guard & a rear seat cowl. Anyone know a good place to get one at a reasonable price? I'll probably get these in bits & bobs rather than all at once to spread the cost.

No regrets yet on my change of bike. Is it a better bike? Well I can't answer that yet. It's certainly a different bike & I think more suited to me & what I need/ use a bike for.

Will PM whenever I have a free weekend to see how you're fixed.

Loving the bike, had to take the 100 mile route home....well I had some new tyres to break in 😉

Will do at some point, it'll be an excuse to ride & I guess we could look at a halfway point somewhere

I work shifts, are weekdays any good for you (or anyone else reading who may be interested)?

Deep in the heart of the Midlands mate. Only made it over to Wales a couple of times, both were very wet  :)

Picking her up Wednesday but back to work Thursday  :(  so not going to be having too much fun yet.

The more stuff I find online (which is pretty sparse) the more convinced I am that this is the bike for me. I know on paper the MTs are better bikes but the styling just doesn't do it for me.

I'm liking the 8 in part because there are so few of them, it's not eye candy to tea leafs & it seems a bit of a wolf in sheepskin clothing so can be the bike I want it to be dependent on the mood I'm in that particular day.

Okay, having started this thread, perhaps the use of the word hate was a bit strong but there's certainly a lot of negativity towards the 8 from the non 8 owners all over the web & little mention of it on other sections of even this forum. I'm ok with that & get the arguements of people who don't understand why we'd settle for less horsepower when you can get a 1000 for not far off the same price. I just fell for this particular bike & knew I didn't need & couldn't justify a 1000. Had there been one I found as aesthetically pleasing at similar age, mileage & price on the same day at the dealer then I might very well have gone for that. But there wasn't & the chameleon effect of being any bike to any person of the 8 appealed.

Pick her up next week. Can't wait.

I'm confident I've made the right choice, just thought I may become a leper to non 8 owners.

Luckily for me the dealer didn't have the 2 daytonas they now do in stick the day I went to look or I'd have chucked my money at them, despite being completely impractical for me.

Trouble is idiot on pursued bike doesn't have any regard for other road users, damage or injury they may cause. The cop even on a more powerful bike has to keep up whilst taking all of these things into consideration so the fact the target vehicle seemed at times to be getting away is no reflection on their skill as a rider. That said, maybe knowing what would happen to them when the Brazilian police caught them may have made it worth risking life & limb to get away.

Wouldn't happen in the risk averse, PC UK anyway as the cop would have been told to stop the pursuit as soon as it started.

I'm new here having just put down deposit on a Fazer 8. Well not strictly true, I did mull around here when I had a 2000 carbed 600 Fazer & then again a 2006 FZ6 Fazer about 5 years ago.

I resurrected my profile from back then & onto this section of the forum. First I'm surprised how quiet it is. I know Yamaha discontinued the bikes in large part due to poor sales but how many FZ8s & Fazer 8s are actually out there?

The good thing about it being so quiet is I've been able to read through all the previous posts quite easily. I'm really surprised at all the haters of the 8 series. I know the likes of MCN weren't overly keen on the bike but all they could really say negative was the original retail price was too high & non adjustable forks were bad. It seems even to the 600 & 1000 foccers that the 8s are the embarrassing relations you don't invite to the family events in case they show you up.

I was in the showroom with no thoughts of returning to Fazerdom when the lovely 2013 in black caught my eye as a damn good looking bike. When I realised it was a Fazer then my fondness for that marque came flooding back. They had an FZ1 in stock as well but I fancied a bit fairing after a few years on naked Triumphs & I don't think the extra hp will be any use to me in the real world other than as a licence loser when my mate on his ZZR 1400 opens up.

I note that actual owners of the 8 seem to have little negative to say about them, so why all the hatred?

Well what can I say, used to be a friendly lot in here.  :rollin

Anyway despite being ignored for my Triumph betrayals I've stuck down a deposit on a 2013 Fazer 8 with 12k on the clock so I'm off over to that forum now.

Hoping the bike is all I anticipate it to be.

Looking at the Fazer 8, couple nice ones out there. I'd lose my license in about a week if I even thought about an FZ1. Not been on here for a few years as I've been in the world of Triumph (Bonneville 1st, now Street Triple R) but 600 Fazer was my 1st big bike so always had a fondness for them.

Based on my 2000 600 Fazer then my later 2006 FZ Fazer6 I'm hoping the Fazer 8 is from the same stable. I've read it's the perfect mix between the 600 & 1000.

 Any advice anyone?

OK thanks for replies. Will give the battery a go 1st as it's the cheapest & easiest option.

FZ6 / Fazer / Starting problem after tick over
« on: 14 March 2013, 01:16:29 pm »
Sorry if this is duplicating something already covered but I couldn't see it anywhere.

Anticipating my 56 Fazer might not want to start after sitting in the alley for a few weeks during this inclement weather I decided to try to start her before I got kitted up so I could see if I needed to charge the battery. To my surprise & delight she came out screaming 1st time. Went off had a shower, did some bits & bobs then got kitted up & rolled her out. Must have been idling for at least half an hour by that time then foc me, I stalled it. Not a big problem, into neutral & start her up again. She lets's out a little cough & my display fades. A couple more tries & all I'm left with is the clicking sound. 20 minutes later I try again & she's back to life, went about 5 miles, stopped for fuel after which she started no problem.

Now my first thought is the battery but surely she wouldn't have started at all & the time left idling would have allowed it to charge itself up a little. Also the battery's little more than a year old so shouldn't be in too bad nick anyway. I'll stick the optimiser on at the weekend just to check but can anyone tell me if the symptoms sound familiar & offer a cheap solution?

Although the media would have you believe otherwise......has anything actually been proven yet. I expect if he was alive there'd be so many court orders in place you wouldn't hear half of what's being alleged.

I never go back to a garage that has this policy, unless it's in my car with a baseball cap & sunglasses on just to prove a point.
This whole theft of fuel thing annoys me, why not get people to pay before drawing fuel? The technology exists, many garages use this facility at night. Surely that would stop theft of fuel dead in it's tracks...but no they'd rather waste the taxpayers money reporting these thefts to the police & justifying it as a reason for their ever increasing price rises.

I was going to start a new topic about helmet snobbery but this one seems to cover some of the issues. I'm currently using a Caberg V2 407. It whistles a bit at higher speeds but is comfortable & gets a 5* sharp rating. I got it from ghostbikes for £50 as an emergency after I dropped my Justissimo.
I've tried researching some different brands but all it keeps coming back to is the more you spend the better...but is it or is that just snobbery? For example I've just learned Box helmets are part of the Oxford group. They make shedloads of accessories & generally seem pretty good quality. Why would they then bring out a sub standard helmet or would the exact same helmet suddenly be good if they charged a couple extra hundred pounds for it?
If the sharp test is far from the full story then what better tests do we have?
Aren't some of the more expensive helmets out there designed for racing so have designs/technology that are no good to your average rider? Bit like buying the latest android/iphone just to make calls.
I am far from an authority on these matters but get cheesed off with the prices of some of these brand name products charging so much without anybody being able to tell me why they're better other than because they're more expensive. If someone can tell me a real reason why I should spend an extra £200 - £300 then I'll consider it.

I'm using Sony Xperia S on O2 for £18.50 a month. Phone was free as an introductory offer. Seemed best deal around at time. I was shopping around for best deal/best phone for about a month before I could upgrade. Found this helpful

Seriously tempted by some of the low deposit low rate finance deals on brand new bikes out there at the moment. Anyone with inside knowledge got any idea if this is as good as it gets or will I be kicking myself a few months down the line when even better deals are on the books?

What's the best tyre set up? (yeah one on the front & one on the back, I know ha ha :lol ). I've just noticed, which is a bit remiss of me, that I've got a Bridgestone Battleax on the front & a Michelin something or other on the rear. I thought they should both be the same type, but then I know very little. :o
