Help .... Cam chain tensioner.
« on: 02 May 2014, 08:53:37 pm »
Hi everyone my bike has been suffering the cam chain rattle. I got a new chain tensioner but the old one feels fine and moves freely . So wondering if it's worth fitting the new one ? Any advice would be great or if you live near Gloucester and could help I will love you long time

What is the mileage?  Good service history?  Could actually be the chain needs replacing.

43500 miles half descent history . Thinking about taking out engine and asking garage to change it .

Have you taken the old tensioner out yet? How many adjustment notches has it got left?

New chain time methinks. I charge around £300 all in to do them and I use a continuous chain not a split one with a soft link

What is it if the rattling only last 10 mins when riding?

Bit of an update . I took my engine out    and popped it to a local friendly garage who changed the chain and did the timing etc . Now I gotta refit it . Good job it's raining .

Why did you take the engine out?
How much were you charged for the job?

Was £108 for the job . Saved a few quid on Labour plus I wanted to tidy some rusty bits on the inside of the frame.
