In fact now with the advent of 3D printing, you could make some caps with grooves with an o-ring to seal against the pipe and cam cover... Or a less fancy idea is to just make a silcon mold to seal around the hole and pipe.

-

I would think smearing some grease on the pipe and ide of the cover will allow the mold to form a seal to prevent water ingrese.

Ah yes I remember these bloody galleries/holes, remember having to buy a can of compressed air to get most fo the shite out before removing the cam cover so I could paint the coolant pipes in silver smoothrite etc.

@Gnasher, is there any reason why owners could not coat the bottom of these pipe galleries with grease? As it would both protect the bottoms of the pipes and all the crap that goes in there would stick to the grease etc..

I see Kahn is now proposing extending the scrappage scheme for 'hard working families' defined as those who claim child benefit.  it's £1000 to scrap a motorbike.  I'm probably going to send my Fazer on it's way via this route

I would be extremely surprised if you get the full £1000 if at all. Whats the model/year/mileage of the fazer..?

Lovely looking bike dude 👍,don't suppose you have the original nose cone in that colour scheme, I came off mine and got a second hand  off coloured one to tide me over 😉😉
Its not mine, just some photos I found online when looking for some other motorcycle parts.

The consultation is running until 5th November - click below to find out more and respond! We stopped them before, with your help we can stop them again -

- SaveLondonMC.com/camden

Nearly three years after they were first proposed Camden has just put out a new consultation on motorcycle parking charges.
We know this is disappointing news but remember this is the fourth time Camden have tried to bring in charges, and every time riders have stopped them.
They’ve provided very little information, and what they have provided is not clear - we have asked for urgent clarification and will update you as soon as we have it. What we know so far about the proposals is

Camden Council has just put out a new consultation on motorcycle parking charges -

🚨 parking permits for residents', businesses' and doctors' motorcycles to cost the same price as cars
🚨 solo motorcycle bays charged at £2.60/day (£2 for electric) costing £600/year for a commuter
🚨 riders living in 'car-free developments' face charges up to £950/year - more than any car
🚨 residents permits to nearly double from £75 to £146/year (£139 for electric)
🚨 introducing motorcycle business permits at £419/year and doctors permits at £326

It appears Camden no longer plan to ban commuting with £6/hour and maximum stay limits in solo motorcycle bays, which is a positive sign that they are listening. But the charges are still absolutely outrageous so we need your help to fight the plans! And whats worse, Camden dont seem know ther backside from their elbow when it comes to thier own policy. Visitors on motorcycles are charged more than commuters & residents....

Camden tried to do this in 2020 and riders managed to stop them - we must act together to stop them again - please share this post and spread the word to all bikers.

There is a drain hole on the side of the engine and this needs cleaing with a coat hanger wire etc. In any event, once the engine gets upto temp the heat should boil off any water in the plug galleries.

I assume you have a look on amazon/ebay, I suggest looking for a complete lockset (ign, tank, seat). The FZS dosent have imobilesation built into the barrell, its just simple plug and play.

There is also partfinder.co.uk

So just bought this off amazon and considering this was made in and came from China, I am pleasently surprised -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BTSXNRLM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

The item was better than I expected and is made from what I think is stainless steel (non-magnetic) and the powdercoating looks tough and of good qaulity.

One other point to mention, when I turned the key it clicked for a while - to be expected of course. But when I next turned the key it did the same. From memory it didn't get to the point where I'd turn the key and it just clicked once or twice. Problem? Clue?
Battery needs charging.

The proper way is to remove the rad from the bike, rub it down, spray with self eatching primer and then finally paint in black etc. In this instance I didnt want to go through that hassel and painted it in situ.

I just went with good old "Granville cylinder black" (Ive had the tin for years). Its says on the tin its can be painted on engine cases/barrels, exhausts, etc. So used a fine brush, let it dry for 24hrs, then on the ride to the shops and back to complete the curing.

« on: 21 September 2023, 02:31:28 pm »
HiBeen reading a little about flashing the ECU to get rid of the jerky throttle at lower revs, my bike is a Gen2 FZ1, do any of you on the forum have any ideas about this, would it be expensive and I bel;ieve the ECU is under the air box.
You have 3 options, from cheapest to most expensive -

- Fuel cut eliminator - plug and play
- Send the ECU of for flashing  - https://www.wizperformance.co.uk/product-page/2006-2014-yamaha-fz1-ecu-flash
- Take the bike to a dyno shop where they program & flash a better fueling curve to remove the dip at 5k rpm.
- Installer a Power commander and then also take it to the dyno shop. The PC allows them to tune the fueling curves further.

Paint the bottom of the raditor with some cylinder black, as the original has started flaking off.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1 stock radiator guard: How do I remove it
« on: 15 September 2023, 05:30:27 pm »
So the paint on the bottom of the radiator is flaking away and before the alloy starts irrevocable corroding I would like to paint it. As its only the botom I can paint/touch it up in-situ, but to do that I need the oem rad guard out of the way.

I wasnt able to see any screws on the guard only on the rad side panels, but watching this cool mod video its look like there are only 2 screws that hold it on?

How is the bike working at all with the meta head unit not present...?

That and the 2x exposed wires need to be covered up, as you dont know where they are terminating.

This is a common point of wear, that depending on the amount of wear can only be resolved by replacing the clutch basket with a new or less worn one.

General / Request some solo motorcycle bays from Hackney
« on: 31 August 2023, 09:33:31 am »
Save London Motorcycling & MAG need you to request a solo motorcycle bay in Hackney!

Thank you to everyone who responded to the recent Hackney consultation. Hackney are now looking at your responses and will make a decision soon so it’s vital we keep up the pressure!

In Hackney’s plan all-day parking for commuters will only be allowed in solo motorcycle bays - Hackney only has 40 of these, and they’re almost all in the south of the borough. Outside solo motorcycle bays the car parking rules will apply to motorcycles, meaning;

  • maximum stay limits or residents-only restrictions in many areas
  • prices of £22-40 per day for visitor/commuter parking where it is allowed
This means a ban on commuting by motorcycle in most parts of Hackney. The Cllr responsible, Mete Coban, has said he will deal with this by installing new solo motorcycle bays where they are requested. All you need to do is click on the link below below and send an email to Mete Coban asking for a secure motorcycle bay to be installed in a specific location.

- Request a bay

A network of secure bays will give you a safe place to park your bike on-street and reduce motorcycle theft. The Council parking team are busy with the consultation so lets make them focus on something that will actually benefit riders! There are many places in Hackney that need secure bays - the map below shows where existing bays are across Hackney, and what the charges in and outside these will be. Any areas where there aren't any bays need them urgently!

If you can’t think of a place that needs a bay just follow the below steps:

  • Think about places you need to park your motorcycle in Hackney
  • Check the map below or on our website to see if there is already a bay there
  • If not, email Mete Coban and say you need a bay installed here before the new charges come into force. Specify the location as exactly as possible
  • Repeat until you’re happy that there is enough motorcycle parking in Hackney for your needs
Map of solo motorcycle bays in Hackney - click to open in Google maps

Thank you for your continued support, and for responding to the latest consultation. Let’s keep up the fight and Save London Motorcycling.

@jul1us

Cleaned up post and linked in 'Gen1/2 Fazer 1000: Common maintenance & tasks' thread

The other option as its now legal in the UK, is to swap out the headlight bulbs for LED.
