I have 150mm dog bones fitted which brings rear end back to stock height to compensate for longer shock - lower is bronze. I suspect as your shock is the shorter version - you may be able to get away with stock dog bones. Did you compare shock lengths between stock shock and BM before fitting?

In the end took a much closer look at the rear end. I did not remove the bushes on BM shock, I fitted suitable spacers at top mount along with bushings which allowed retention of 10mm top bolt - no drilling top or bottom of shock.
Once all fitted all play at shock top removed thats when I found play at the front mount where connected to frame, once this sorted all good.
Rear end is set at OEM, height front lower as early R6 front forks fitted. Forks and Shock resprung to suit me, front end a bit harsh over sharp bumps, ideally needs revalving, but this bike handles a lot better and is very accurate through the twisties. It compares very much like my previous bike GSXR1000 which was resprung/revalved - pretty happy.
Not sure how your USD forks compare lengthwise to my RWUP r6 forks - info on this site somewhere - but if it is anything like mine I would ride the bike with lower front end - you might prefer it.

My Gen 1 1000 struggles to start with choke on but once started revs rise as if choke is on, back it off then ticks over fine and runs great. Never had one of these before, not sure if it has been Ivanised or jet kit.

Seen a lot of reports of these seizing up, I guess more than regular lube would prevent this. I bought my first Fazer only to find that both were seized. Given that in many ways this bike has been described as a very good package/collection of parts most of which works very well, I was very surprised how difficult it was to locate other bikes that might be suitable donors given that Yamaha does not list these adjusters as separate parts - you want new, purchase a complete lower fork leg!
If you are lucky you might be able de-seize them, hours of fun. One day trawling internet/e-bay spotted forks from FZR1000 and it looked very much like they had same adjusters - bit the bullet bought second hand lower leg with working adjuster - same dimensions, it fits........
I guess just in case buy and fit a pair of these - winner.
If somebody already has discovered and reported this then no harm done but if not, great, hope it helps somebody.

Checked rear end again and found that able to raise, on centre stand, rear end a fair bit, spotted top mount moving up and down. Fitted correct shims for this mod now play considerably less but some still present. May have to drill bushing to 12mm and fit suitable bolt to correct any further play perhaps introduced play by using bushes to continue to use 10mm bolt?
Further to above, "Rider" sag before above 35mm now very close to 30mm, just shows how much play there was, just means I could back off shock preload to get a match with sag on front end of 35mm for a balance. I have plenty of nose down attitude as R6 5EB forks are shorter than OEM Fazer - dog bones 150mm to bring rear end down to OEM, S1000RR shock longer than OEM.

Carried out this mod using early 2009 shock (bronze fork) but instead of drilling both mounts to 12mm, I followed another method spotted elsewhere which retains 10mm bolts using custom bearing sleeves, OD 12mm ID 10MM, fitted to Fazer mount points. 150mm dog bones fitted to return rear to OEM height. I fitted 110NM Ktech spring to shock, set Compression adjusters to BMW "Comfort" positions and Rebound to 7, so far. At same time fitted R6 5EB forks, resprung also. Bike handles great just harsh over sharp bumps. Came back after latest run found what feels like top mount worn, lifted rear found a lot of play, I now have correct spacers for top mount to fit but it may well be BMW top shock mount may be extremely worn - if necessary how do you remove the top bushes, any help would be much appreciated?

41 years, 12 year gap when got wed, 28 bikes, 3 Hondas, 3 Yamahas, 2 Triumphs, 1 Cagiva, 1 BMW, 1 Suzuki and 17 Kawasakis, later, I find myself pleasantly surprised and very pleased I have one of these bikes. Standout bikes for me over the years RD250C, Z1000 Mk2, ZRX1200 and GSXR1000 but as you can tell love my Kwacks, the bigger the better. This bike, 2002 Fazer 1000, could very easily be added to my short list of faves.
