Title: Still Alive
Post by: mickdel on 17 December 2012, 07:19:51 pm
I've been away a long time. Serious illness, job loss and all that goes with it, but I've still got my gen1 waiting in the wings, til times get better.

Even if I end up on the street,  the bike will still be there.   It gives me hope.

I see a lot of new names.   But still a few of the old foul dudes  :D

Merry xmas to all and safe winter biking to the hardcore foccers.

Looking forward to reading about whats been happening in foccerland since I've been away, and making new foccer friends.

Thank feck for that. Been a long time mate, and your name is still mentioned in Chateaux Wales every time the is a parent denial of sweets!! I'm aware of some of the stuff that's happened to you and your family over the water, and hope to God 2013 is better than the last few years for you.

I kinda miss my Fazer sometimes, but do like arsing around in the desert in Spain even more!!

Its good to hear people bouncing back from hardship- financial or health , tbh for many of us its only a stonesthrow away , and by the grace of God and all that. Somehow the thought of riding your bike on a perfect day is most of ours idea of heaven !

Mine is riding either the sort road in northern spain or up the south side of the stelvio pass...just thinking of it warms the heart !...and shows there can be good times. When I had my counselling , for PTSD, a key thing is to have a safe/ perfect  place ready in your mind, and just thinking of it , calms and soothes...mind you , my perfect place aint printable !    :lol

Best wishes.

Something like this Jon?

Not sure if its the north or south side, anyway a good hoot but I've only done it on four wheels!

Happy Crimbo and best wishes to all for 2013 now that we are all still alive

Hi steve
That is the north side m8, best ridden upwards as the hairpins are fecking unbelievably nadgery with a great change in elevation. The south side is much more flowing with spectacular views both up and down.At one point its like riding down the grand canyon. All bikers should get to ride it at least once in their life. I have been lucky to do it 4x now, and believe me, it still will catch u out if its not treated with utmost respect.
At the top are some quaint bratwurst stalls, even buffalo sausages one time I think ! Its a slightly carnival atmosphere as literally hundreds of bikes come and go all the time. I love the alps, the people, the bikes, the culture.I could ( and will) write a book of my biking anecdotes which get added to every time I go there. I put it down to the sheer number and diversity of bikes and people who visit the alpine areas. I have met up spontaneously with so many bikers ( and non bikers) from all over europe whilst on tour , and the welcome is always the same.
By contrast I find spain to lack this culture...its rugged and wild, but very sparsely populated, so its all natural beauty...though at just one third the altitude of the alps, and a dry climate ...it never will somehow have that unique majesty feel and awe about it. Maybe its a bit of fear too, cos riding alps, particularly  in cold wet fog is a truly focusing time, not something I look forward to , but sharp in my memory.
