General / Re: ear plugs - do you / don't you & why ?

yes always use them on bike, also use them at rallies and in my tent on a night although I tend to use just half of a soft plug (the pink nipple type) pushed well into me lugs so they aren't seen and don't rub when you're asleep, lol.

General / MOT pass or fail?
« on: 23 May 2012, 12:34:15 am »
Well my bike passed the mot test this week, in fact I haven't had a bike fail (although I do check them over) unlike cars I've had maybe only 50% to 75% pass rate, the car failed on emissions this time due to exhaust leaking.

What is your pass rate????????

I use Mr Muscle glass and window cleaner but might soak with water first if they're dried on.

make sure that the front sprocket isn't loose, it's a fault on the 04-05 bikes, all it would have needed is a drop of loc-tite but because I didn't know about this fault its going to cost me a packet to put right.

It was sorted in the US free of charge when it went in for servicing but not here another case of "RIP OFF BRITAIN"

SEE MY OTHER THREADS.

FZ6 / Fazer / gearbox drive shaft HELP
« on: 21 March 2012, 02:25:48 pm »
HELP, Has anyone changed the drive shaft on a FZ6 (05) its the one the front sprocket is fixed to or in my case not fixed to, see my other thread "cost of spares".

What I need to know is does the engine have to come out? are special tools required? can the average person do the job and has anyone got a spare shaft going cheap.

What are your thoughts on welding the sprocket (nut) on till next winter/ new chain. which ever comes first?

thanks.

the only thing I didn't do was measure the threaded part of the drive shaft, if less than 17.5 mm REPLACE THE DRIVE SHAFT,
there's not enough thread left on mine, the nut just spun off before I got anywhere near the 65 foot lbs torque.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP?

After loosing the nut off the front sprocket on my FZ 6 I have to pay £17.47 for it and a new tab washer when in the US I could got the same for under $7.

Plus in the US they were replacing them for free as it was a service upgrade (should it have been a recall). On 04/05s

My Yamaha dealer says that this is not the case in the UK.

Am I just being a typical Yorkshireman   HOOOOOOOOW MUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH.

« on: 15 March 2012, 09:12:58 am »
hi, just lost the front sprocket nut off my 05 (reg 06) fz6, it's done 23,700 miles still on original chain, I keep it waxed.

Nobody told me there was a problem with it, it was serviced by yamaha for the first 2 years.

I have the bridgestones that are recommended 020 gg but the last pair cost me £250 to be fitted to loose wheels, so I'm going to look for something less expensive, I'm lucky to get 4000 miles out of the rear tyre and I don't use the rear brake unless it's wet, on gravel or running out of road.

Introduction / new to this?

hi, just reg with this site, found it cos me front sprocket nut came off today, I was on my way to Squires cafe.

Luckily no damage and within pushing distance of my sisters house.

Now I need a new nut and lock washer, it's an 05 fz6n reg.06, it was serviced by yamaha at 600miles and just over a year which took it to the end of its 2 years warranty, then I did the service myself.

have I any chance of getting the parts for nowt?
