Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: rear shock replacment
« on: 21 November 2020, 11:03:23 pm »
So it's been a long time since I've been on here and I don't know if the person who bought my Gen.1 is on this forum but I fitted the 2011 BMW S1000RR rear shock to my bike and it was excellent, especially given that I only paid £100 for it in excellent condition. You have to drill the bottom fork hole out if I remember correctly to accept the stock Fazer bottom bolt, some have put extra washers in the top mount but I had a friend who made me new top hat bushes.
I put a post up at the time you should find it on a search, the best £100 I spent on my bike.

For Sale & Wanted / 2002 (51 plate) Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer - blue
« on: 13 April 2019, 04:21:49 pm »
I'm looking to sell my 2002 (51 plate) FZS1000, it's covered 24,640 miles although this may go up as I'm still using it. I'm the second owner and I've fitted the following parts to it,
Ivans Full Monty jet kit with Pipercross hi flow filter, modded airbox and inlet rubbers.
BMW S1000RR rear shock
Remus carbon slip on can
Clear LED rear light, clear indicator lenses and LED dash lights.
Oxford heated grips.
Adjustable levers.
MRA Vario screen.
Carbon fibre fairing infills.
Original 17,000 mile shock, levers, rear light and alternative MRA double bubble screen included.
Oil & filter changed at the above mileage and at 3,000 mile intervals before that.
Recent new front Bridgestone T31 front tyre and rear Bridgestone T30 has plenty of treat left. Chain and sprockets good.
There is a very very tiny mark on the tank but otherwise excellent and is always garaged - £2000 which is just over what I've been offered in part exchange. Advertising here as I've since seen a bike privately I would like to buy.
I'm in Ipswich in Suffolk.
No idea how to upload images as I don't do photobucket anymore so please message me and I ill happily send some vie email or Whatsapp

could be the inlet rubbers leaking by (the o rings around the inlet valve bodies) I suppose, theres certainly anecdotal evidence of it happening on other forums. I could send you four o rings (the same ones mike uses) if you want them gratis mate, but youve obviously gotta pull the carbs to change them. at least you'll be able to check your float heights too. as a rule of thumb mines ivanised and I get 160-180 a tank depending on how im riding
I'm quite happy to pay for them as I wouldn't expect you to be out of pocket as it would be worth a try, I did quite meticulously check the float levels when I did the Ivans kit a few months ago, do they go out that often? I'm slightly flummoxed as fuel consumption aside the bike runs fine, no spluttering on tick over, picks up quickly and no misfires or poor running right through the rev range?  :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / 26 mpg, it's a mystery, suggestions please
« on: 12 April 2019, 07:00:40 pm »
So I always thought my Gen.1 Fazer was a bit thirsty, i expected it to drop a bit after I fitted the Ivans Full Monty kt, ported the inlet rubbers and fitted a high flo filter but I did an 80 mile ride having brimmed my tank. I filled up when I got back and it took 13.64 litres which I make a paltry 26 mpg which I think is adequately described as horrendous. I know it's fuel injected but I spanked a Triumph Speed Triple RS demo today and it still showed over 40 mpg, other than the awful fuel consumption the bike seems to run spot on, ticks over smoothly, picks up revs quickly and pulls cleanly right to the red line on the rare occasion I venture that high up the rev range.
So any ideas oh knowledgeable ones?  :'(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Updating lights 04 fazer thou
« on: 09 March 2019, 03:39:15 pm »
Mine are the Amazon ones, Safego. Can't comment on the others. I have had a set in mine for about 18 months with no issues.

Thanks for the reply, I don't know if these are the same as Ogri48 fitted, were there any problems with fitting these as most f these by their nature appear to have quite a lump at the back end?

the expensive ones I got for me fazer are worth every penny as far as im concerned. theres no fan, but there is something akin to the ballast box you get with a HID. I had HID on my cb13, and it was nowhere near as good as these leds. They are plug and play, utterly brilliant on low and high beam, and still going strong after two winters and lots of miles. id go so far as to say the best money ive spent on my fazer, and ive spent quite a bit over the years..

Sorry to ask again but were they these ones? - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Safego-Headlight-Conversion-Warranty-PHL6E-H4/dp/B01H59HZ5G/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1481323049&sr=8-8&keywords=H4+hi%2Flo+LED

the other ones I've seen are these but I'll go on recommendation and experience - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H4-Headlight-Bulb-LED-Headlamp-Car-Motorcycle-Light-Bulbs-Direct-Halogen-Repl/123616204474?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

I clicked on the previous link for the LED bulbs on Amazon and it says currently unavailable, I don't want to overload my charging system so am I better with LED bulbs and if so which ones, I don't mind them being expensive if they're good, or should I go with a HID kit, do they draw less current but produce more light?
Sorry to be thick but it would be nice to have some advice from those who have done either. :)

Hi sorry I forgot to post that this is sold.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Ignition advancer Gen1 ?
« on: 14 November 2018, 06:03:20 pm »
An advancer makes the bike more tractable at low revs and easier to start which is definitely useful, the trade-off is a slightly lower peak power figure which in the real world you won't notice.

It is easy to fit, the only issue is the retaining bolt which can be pretty tight, I put the bike in gear and blocks under the rear wheel to stop it turning, I'd invest in a replacement gasket before starting the job.

My bike has the full monty and a decent end can, I wouldn't go back to the stock timing.

Thanks for the replies, is this the gasket for the casing on the right hand end ff the engine?

For Sale & Wanted / Re: WANTED FZS1000 luggage - Panniers - Topbox
« on: 14 November 2018, 06:01:34 pm »
there's currently a complete luggage set going on the Fazer facebook page.
He's after £150. Carnoustie, in Scotland, but willing to courier I believe.

Had a look on there but can't find that posting, any idea when it was posted?

It's here - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-Fazer-1000-Panniers-Top-Box-And-Givi-Rack/332876282768?hash=item4d80f8fb90:g:Cu0AAOSwhzhb5zOk:rk:13:pf:0

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Ignition advancer Gen1 ?
« on: 14 November 2018, 12:42:21 am »
I've seen people make mention of a 4 degree ignition advancer, is it worth fitting one of these and f so are they hard to fit? My bike is fitted with an Ivans Full Monty kit and Remus can.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: Leo Vince FZS1000 oval road legal slip on can
« on: 14 November 2018, 12:31:23 am »
A quick update, I've managed to polish most of the tiny scrape that was on this out, whilst not a race can it still sounds better than the stock one without being obnoxious and looks better than the standard 'rocket launcher' can, sensible offers considered.

I have for sale an MRA dark tint double bubble screen for a 2006> Yamaha FZ1 Fazer, some very minor marks, as can be seen someone mounted this incorrectly and the tint has rubbed away at two points (I shall endeavour to touch these in, the screen itself is tinted it's just a paint on tint to darken the base), one very tiny chip in it, but overall in excellent condition and a cheap screen for someone £30.00 inc. p&p

Brand new Beowulf stainless steel link pipe for Gen.1 (2001 - 2005) Yamaha Fazer 1000. 51 mm exit so will fit a large variety of after market slip on exhausts. This came with a slip on exhaust that I bought but I used the existing link pipe. If you go on the Beowulf website you can see how these look when fitted to the bike. These are £53 new but this was specially made with the spring hooks on it so a variety of slip on cans can be used. 51 mm exit which fits a lot of after market exhausts but please measure yours first.
£30.00 inc. p&p

Leo Vince oval slip on exhaust can removed from my 2002 Yamaha Fazer 10000. This should fit any bike with the common 51 mm link pipe.It is road legal with a fixed baffle although with a little ingenuity a skilled person could modify this.It is in excellent condition with one very minor scrape, as per the photo, which was on it when I bought the bike and could likely be polished out.It comes with the mounting strap, which is also in excellent condition, but without a link pipe or retaining spring, which are cheap enough to replace.
£70.00 inc. p&p.

Ignore my previous message thanks, second hand Remus came up on ebay and I bought that. :)

Thanks for the replies guys, I have a proper full size charger which I believe can test the battery and see if there are any dead cells.

Hi, do you still have the exhaust can for sale and if so how much is it please?

As always, check your earth connections before doing any further troubleshooting with electrical faults. :)

Good shout, thanks Mike, I checked the battery last night and at rest it's 12.88, now I know it's a 12 volt battery but I'm thinking that's possibly a little low with no load on it?

21
Could be the starter relay.
As they make contact there is a small arc created between the two plates, over time this causes a build up of carbon on their surface which in turn creates a high resistance preventing enough current being passed to turn the starter. Other times the relay will fire (click, click, click....) as you push the button but the starter won't turn at all.
There is a simple test for this but wouldn't want to suggest it if you are not mechanically or electrically competent.
Simple solution is to replace it, it's a £6 part and takes about 10 minutes to do.

Thanks for that, for £6.00 I'll change it just as a precaution but there was no clicking on the relay it was literally as if it had a flat battery even though it had started without a hitch three times already yesterday morning? :(

So i got my bike out today to go for a ride with my friends having last ridden it last Saturday, as usual the bike fires straight up, I go to the garage again the same thing hop on fires straight up, get to meeting point have a coffee and leave and again it starts straight up. So a little further up the road we pull over and stop while one of the others fills up with petrol and bike doesn't fire and second push on the button the engine is slow to turn over, third push and barely turns one revolution.

Fortunately as it was warm it only took a brief push to bump start it and for the rest of the day no further problems, I checked the batter when I got home and these were the figures I got. Static ignition off 13.4 volts, engine running no lights 14.4 volts, engine running lights on 13.8 volts, these were all at tick over as I couldn't hold the multi meter on the battery and twist the throttle at the same time.

The bike doesn't have an alarm fitted so no rain on the battery whilst the bike is not in use and in the week prior to last Saturday it sat connected to my Optimate, any ideas peeps? :)

I'm going to have to try some of these recommendations out of curiosity as only one person has said about the Bridgestone BT30's which I have on my Gen.1 Fazer, no Valentino Rossi but no slouch either and I can't fault them other than a little low on mileage. 4000 miles out of the 1st rear, now a 1000 miles into that and the front whilst not down to the limit it's getting fairly low and just moving a little on damp roads.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Ais removal
« on: 04 November 2018, 07:57:06 pm »
I’d read a few reports where people were nervous about tapping the stubs. Honestly it was really easy, now getting to the plugs is so straightforward.

I never bothered with that, I bought an Ivans AIS block off kit but I also bought a set of machined aluminium caps off a member on here that literally just go over the stock stub. i undid the bolts for the radiator just to give me a little wiggle room but didn't need to remove or drain it, a little blue loctite on the grub screws and no need to touch anything else to get them on, job was a good'un. :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: S1000rr shock question
« on: 04 November 2018, 07:32:24 pm »
A friend of mine who made my top bushes for me drilled mine at the same time, the issue you'll have is ensuring that the drill doesn't slip the least bit sideways when you drill it or obviously as you'll be aware you could end up with an oval hole. If you know anyone or a local engineering firm with a pillar drill probably best to use one if you can that way you can securely clamp the shock and line it up and get it nice and square.

I fitted the same shock to mine and I know the world and his wife on here go on about an R6 shock but love the BMW one on my bike never even have to think of it causing me any problems and whilst I'm no lunatic I ride what was called progressively when I was a motorcycle cop.  :)
