Hehe... AHOY!!!  SimonM..... Come in...Ur time is up

Sorry.  I'm not allowed to play that.  My mental age is barely 10, never mind 12.  I can't believe some stoopid cager made you dump your beauty.   Gutted.  I hope she is back to pristine soon as.  Better to dump than end up embedded in their rear end.  Also a relief the road was clear where you came off.  As good an off as you can hope for.

Glad you're okay dude.  Thankfully it looks as if the damage was aesthetic and whilst I have sympathy for the bike you were never any oil painting ;-).

Get well soon Pete m8.

If you're talking a decent sized engine with relatively few miles and you want reliability too for <£10k then you'd need to head off the the auctions IMO.  No way you're going to get something like that on Autotrader unless you stick with the MG/Vauxhall or Scooby/Evo and they'll probably all have been ragged silly/old/unreliable.

To put down £10k on an 05 MG is a bit insane IMO (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201308298522228/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/petrol/engine-size-cars/4l_to_4-9l/maximum-mileage/up_to_40000_miles/price-to/10000/make/mg/onesearchad/used/page/1/radius/1500/postcode/w1k1be?logcode=p.  You can get a BMW 1000SS for fun and get a VW touran for family life if people/luggage is a requirement.

I love the skoda Octavia PD too but for this scenario I'd go for one of two options:

335D m-sport
or
Mitsu Evo IX

one is practical, one is nutter.  The torque on the 335d is immense.  You could even go for the 135i if you're really insane.

Codgie... This is not a good thread to exhume. It caused a lot of bad feeling.

Nowt wrong with an option :-).  Some people have more than one.  I couldn't care less about this thread, let him, or whoever say what they want.  I'm long over it.

Hope you're okay Exup, miss the chats.

I went on a rideout over to the cat and fiddle the other week.  Absolutely brilliant, I can understand why it's so popular.  Almost life changing.

You could be right Simon, and personal loans are the way I've always done it. It's just something I'm looking at for possible future use, weighing the pros and cons. Just wondered if anyone had experience of it, and if so, how did they find it to be in actuality.
It's a contract dude.  Can't sign a contract and then whine about it afterwards ;-).  It's a purely financial transaction, some people will win, some will lose.  The main winners are normally people who believe in renting over owning houses or people that change their cars every 3 years.

It's one of those things that has overheads but if it's the way you live your life it'll fit like a glove.  You pays your money, you take your choice.

I've never done taken out PCP so I'll exit stage left.

« on: 25 October 2013, 07:05:10 pm »
Cheers Kosmic, but before I try it, I do have a photobucket account. Pics come up size 1024 x 768 or thereabouts in resize window, anybody know what kind of dimensions I need to go down to, to get photos accepted? Sorry, I am the techno-dimwit I appear to be  :rolleyes

I use this one; http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/

I set the pixels at 800x600 on most forums..

I recommend this one too.  It will add a context option in windows explorer allowing you to resize an image with a single click without modifying the original.  Brilliant.

FWIW My query with PCP is always asking myself the question "who is going to benefit".  I can go out and negotiate myself a loan at the best rate I can.  With PCP I have to take what is on offer with no negotiation.  It will include their profit margin, excesses and a balloon payment on conclusion (as well as a strike in the outstanding finance box).

I'd always prefer to take out a personal loan and sell the bike on at a later date.  It's personal choice and depends on circumstances and finances too.

YMMV, E&OE

My call is the bikers fault.  To brake check a Range rover is stupid in the first place.  If the range rover cut them up, whatever, the bikers should have been mature and just got over it.

Boxing in the car and the intimidation is just immature.  The guy felt under pressure and wanted to get out of a mob of bikers, who can blame him.

These bikers give riders a bad name.

Quite often these units have resetting fuses so it would be worth seeing if, after 10 minutes it starts working again.  Beyond that you can take the back off and have a look for anything that looks blackened or gooey or fuselike (and whack a multimeter across it) and just solder in a replacement.

As for repair or replace, to a large degree it depends on your ethos: reuse/recycle or off to landfill/tip or Sometimes you can flog them on ebay as some people have a hobby of repairing things

Last point to ask is why it blew.  I would always advise running important equipment through a surge protected socket.

Sorry if you knew all this already.

Im usually heading at that time as dark M8

I won't bother then :-P

Or fishing when you have a fit wife and a fillet steak at home.... In other words pointless.

I think the burning question is how many accidents you caused, then refused to give details to the Marshall's

Oh, sorry the sarcasm didn't come across. I thought you actually had an insightful point to make.   Never mind, maybe next time.  There's always hope. I didn't cause any accidents and therefore didn't need to give any details.

I didn't know you could ride a bike  :eek :lol ........this will give you some experience and practice that will no doubt boost your confidence on the road. ;)

I'm not sure there was much that would benefit road riding but piling the anchors on in the wet for a 90 degree left gives you confidence in the bike,  brakes and the tyres.  It is important for me to remember that the track is probably a bit more than the width of both lanes of a normal carriageway.  There is no way I could most of the track manoeuvres on the road safely.

The oil light kept coming on momentarily after the second to last hair pin but I think that was the oil sloshing around while the bike was at a 45 degree angle and pointing uphill.
There was a whole new collection of smells at the end of each session which worried me,  the engine, tyres and discs were hammered like never before; and yes I stunk too :lol

Your Suggestions and How you can help / comment in email notification
« on: 24 September 2013, 03:17:22 pm »
If I ask to be notified for updates to a topic I get a hyperlink which directs me to the site.  It would be handy if it contained the comment which had been added as well.  This would mean a slight reduction in site traffic (possibly making the site quicker too) but people would still log on/in to respond or get context for the topic.

Cheers
