Poor Customer Service
« on: 05 April 2012, 09:16:32 pm »
Guys, I put this up in the XJR forum, but thought you may like to see it, as this is a problem we may all come across, knackered brake calipers....
I have seen on here reports of good and bad service, so thought i would add my recent experiance with powerhouse in sheffield.

http://www.powerhouseautomotive.co.uk/

Rear caliper on my XJR had seized on one piston. Stripped it all down, but did not feel to happy replacing the seals and calier centre seals myself so sent it to these guys.
Spoke to them on the phone first explaining the problem, it was agreed that they would clean and reassemble the caliper replacing all the seals and springs as per the website description, so I sent it off and waited, they arrived back a few days later, and on initial inspection i was a bit disapointed, they should have been cleaned in a solvent bath, but were just as i sent them still with deposits of dirt and brake dust, OK this is not a major problem, but it was a part if the service so should have been done, the invoice also showed they had been stripped, recoated and ovan baked, again not done, but in fairness not asked for or paid for, but it was shown as done on the invoice, new copper washers were sent but new R clips were missing.
I contacted Powerhouse and got a reply back, which basically said that all the work was done as required however they did not allow enough time or charge enough to carry out the job as they described, the mail ended with a comment "what do you expect for £39" So I replied explaining that I expected the work to be carried out in a professional manner etc,

The second mail from them was quite insulting, ending explainging that they have blocked my email address as i was being annoying, if anyone wants to see the mails in full just pm me and i will send them to you, but didnt feel it was fair to post them here.

As for the calipers, before fitting and to stop me worrying, i took them to a local bike shop to get them checked, and the work carried out on the seals was fine, it just seems that the attention to detail and customer service is missing.

It may be just an off job, maybe the guy speaking to me has had a bad day, but with brakes being so important, would you use someone that treats you like an idiot and insults you when something goes wrong?

If anyone wants more info please PM me
Anything less than a litre and it's a girls bike :-)

Might be worth a chat with Trading Standards on that one, don't know if its there cup of tea, but worth a call anyway
