I've been on a diet for 3 years now, got my BMI down from obese to 24.4, you have to stay on a diet or you just return to what you were, not doing much walking ect due to aching joints, so it's just eating less or more of the green stuff?

It's a while since I worked on gas and not registered now so don't do it any more. On most combi's there are 6 or 7 conections, there's the central heating flow (1) and return (2) pipes these are 22mm, mains cold in (3) 15mm, (the filling loop will go from this to the heating pipe),  DHW (4) 15mm domestic hot water, this goes to the taps, the pipe from the PRV (5) 15mm to the outside, and the gas pipe 22mm reduced to 15mm (depending on pipe run) if its a condensing boiler there will be a (plastic) pipe going outside to a drain.
You shouldn't have to do anything with the expansion vessle as long as its ok, its there so when the water expands on heating it has somewhere to expand into. If the diaphram is damaged then it won't work and when the water expands the only place it can go is out of the PRV, then when it cools there's not enough pressure for the boiler to work?
You should be able to pressurise the system in a few seconds if the system hasn't been drained by opening the valves on the filling loop there may be two one ate each side if the loop,(as its should be removed to prevent contamination but never is).

The AARV should be at the top of the heat exchanger, it might have a knurled knob that must be loose so that any air in the heat exchanger can vent, The PRV is the safety valve, so if the presure rises to 3 bar it vents to the outside , the other valves are service valves and can be closed so you don't have to drain the whole system, if you close them make sure they are open before pressurising the system (I dont know how or when you do the expansion vessle?) the filling loop is used to fill the system to 1 to2 bar.

I was with Swift for my car and got sick of every year having to phone round, I've been with direct line 5 years now and its not gone up, I maybe try one ar two other companies but so far no one gets close. This saves me time and also them. when I took it out I told them not to send a renewal if they were going to hike it up, maybe they put that on their notes?

have you checked outside where the PRV pipe vents?

search 12v capless bulbs on ebay, look on the bulb to see watts, if non of the other bulbs are working they have either blown or theres a break in the pcb circuit, you could mend it with solder when you solder the new bulbs in.

I "never" use my rear......unless I'm on loose surface or running out of road, had the rear brake lock solid ( on a drum brake the washer that held the shoes in place came off) the brake plate was on the peg and slot way of holding it, it broke the peg off and spun round snapped the shocker (old fashion twin shocks) and made a right mess of things.
looking at yours I would think it's up to the job.

Why would anyone want a Virago? More to the point, a pink Virago!

It's not pink and when i bought it thought it was Viagra, I'd always wanted a V twin and the choice (money wise) was that or a 884 Harley, I still have a V twin and still think that proper motorcycles have 2 cylinders and no fairing, but each to their own, lol.

I think that the plugs spark every time the pistons are at the top so if it doesn't fire on the power stroke the fuel mixture is pushed into the exhaust and can fire on the exhaust stroke.
If your bike isn't starting on the button then there's something wrong, could be what you are doing, e.g. too much choke or not enough? I've a FZ6 so just turn it on and press the starter no throttle and as long as the battery is ok it starts. Mine has over 45K on the clock.
When was the bike last serviced? has it had new plugs? is the air filter clean these are what I would check first, is the battery spinning the engine over fast enough? then work your way through things like carbs, plug leads ect.

General / Re: usb heated gloves
« on: 09 January 2016, 12:25:17 am »
I bought some heated gloves last year, they cost about £14, with the batteries (I got 12 AA x 2300ah) each glove takes 3, so I have two sets, and a charger it came to about £40.
Having more than one bike I thought it would be cheaper than heated grips, plus I didnt want to alter the bikes.
Do they work, well yes and no, hands are still cold but not frozen and a set of batteries might last 2-4 hours I was told but more like 1-2 hours.
I don't see the point of fingerless gloves as it's the finger ends that get the coldest, would you need 2 powerpacks, how long would they last and how long to recharge?
Would I do the same again, I dont think I would, although the last time I wore them it was just 30 minutes ride put them in my helmet left them turned on and half an hour when I put the helmet back on it was nice and warm as were the gloves.

General / Re: Car oil?
« on: 04 January 2016, 04:51:26 pm »
Good point about the RPM but what about maximum piston speed? most bikes have a short stroke and cars a longer stroke so even though bike engines might be reving twice as fast (not my MT-01 LOL) the max piston speed could be the same and I would think that most of the stresses take place in the cylinders?

MAXXIS SUPERMAX DIAMONDS and if you don't like them something else because a tyre is only as good as the confidence you have in it?

General / Re: Car oil?
« on: 04 January 2016, 04:13:06 pm »
After reading loads of stuff on the net which is mostly years out of date, it seams that the main differance between car and bike oil is the fact that most but not all unit construction bikes use the engine oil to lube the gear box. Pre-unit construction (seperate gearbox and engine sump) and many unit construction bikes from the 1950's onwards used an EP oil (extreme presure) for the gears.
It's the shear effect that breaks the oil down? and shortens the effective life of the oil, now there is the point if with modern semi and synthetic oils if it has any adverse effect if the oil is changed every 6,000 miles.
A few years when I got a new works van the FIRST service was at (from what I can remember) 26,000 miles or one year. A motorbike would be on its 5th service at that rate? if it did that milage.
So should you use bike oil..........YES.........will it make a differance ..........that's up to you?
