Title: Engine Whining
Post by: dbal on 14 November 2012, 12:52:23 pm
My 2005 engine has a whining noise, which is at times audible over my Two Brothers pipes. It is not there all the time. Is this normal?

At what times is it audible? Pulling away? Low revs? High revs? Low speed? High speed...?

Have you checked your oil levels and chain tension? Is your clutch sticky?

I'm sure there are more questions, but these are a few things which would be useful to know.

My fazer 600 is also making the same kind of whining noise. When I'm applying power it doesn't but as soon as I'm rolling (with no power applied) I can hear it and even more so if I pull in the clutch! I have hardly any knowledge on bikes as I only became a biker last October.
This whining noise however has only come about since a friend tightened up the chain as it was too slack.

600 fazers do have noticable whine from the tranmission on overrun,a tight chain makes it more noticable and makes the gearchange more clunky

Appreciation bwizz, my friend helped me slacken the chain a little bit and it doesn't whine like it used to now. Apparently I do have a tight spot in the chain and I need to buy a new one.
Would you recommend getting a garage to fit the new chain and sprockets or is it a job I would be able to do with someone who knows what they are doing?
