Last year I put a fuel additive in my petrol tank and left it full over winter after starting the bike and leaving it running for 20 minutes to get it up to temperature and get the additive through the carb system. I don't recall what it was called other than it was a stabiliser of some discription that also helped stop varnishing of the fuel system anyone have any recommendations
This is now appropriate, and you must ignore the name of it, simply because the gear has been around since the '20's.Remember my issues with starting my bike, which went on for around 10 months, and it was a proper nightmare for me?I used this additive and it resolved the issue within a day, but not only that, the bike has run so sweetly ever since i can't recommend it enough. What's held me back from mentioning it is the damn name of it......Marvel's Mystery Oil.When you've stopped laughing, Google it and read reviews.Bear in mind how long it's been around, it can't be bad, and what it does is clean, but more importantly, lubricate the fuel system. The bike now starts on the button with no need for throttle, and pulls like a train.I worked out you need about 60ml per tank, which i natrowed down to using "roughly" half a lid of a 500ml spray can.I now use it once every 4 full tanks of fuel and it has helped like you wouldn't believe. As said, do your research anyway, and listen to what people say, but i can honestly say it works wonders, so can only imagine it will protect against varnishing.Using half a cap will give you about 16 goes for the near litre you get for around £14 on Ebay.Highly recommended from me!
You could let me run it up to London and back each day over the winter Tommy - save you the cost of that expensive additive and will keep the battery topped up.Let me know your thoughts eh....
Granted it's picked up a few spots that needed repainting and a few mods to help with the winter but generally I think it's holding up quite well. The parts should swap straight over to yours.......let me know
That is properly bad ass cool, not like the poncey arsed wannabes that the 'distinguished gentleman' hipster types think are cool
Apologies Tommy, but believe me it's still money well spent.I ordered another bottle recently, the way the bike starts now on the button without any blip at all is just great. Not heard of anyone else on here that's ever used it, but i can only praise the stuff.I don't recommend using it in the sump though. It is oil based but apparently it cleans it too well so may cause unwanted and unnecessary issues.Keep to fuel only.

Fuel of yesteryear had a lead content in them that actually lubricated any areas of the engine that fuel touched, not today so it actually is benificial to use a UCL additive. (I use the word 'beneficial, and not the word 'necessary') When going out on blasts with mates I often shove 10 ml/cc of Castrol R in with a tank full of petrol just for the smell, In hasten to add the rider never benefits from the smell it generates but the followers do.Breathing in burnt Castrol R can actually give you diareahoa and allegedly often happened to guys who worked in the pit lanes at race tracks years ago.Castrol R was a brilliant lubricant but it had its faults, it is not such a popular lube as it was but still used for a lot of classic type races. Apparently it gums up things like piston rings and other components, meaning complete strip downs and rebuilds every few races. So a Mirical Mystery Oil and Stabil cocktail it is, if the bike doesn't perform like a Mighty Thou next Spring I will be most suprised.
I just love Castrol R and I have a can in my shed which I bought to use on my old BSA (now sold) but I pop a bit in my bike every now and then and especially if I'm on a ride-out with some friends just so they can get a whiff.I was told it is basically castor oil so that's probably why it causes stomach complaints...

Im gonna give this marvels stuff a go i think , Sad times the winter is coming in the shed she goes.
