I thought it was the other way round and the clutch side had left hand thread so the wind pressure wouldn't unscrew it?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: SFS Performance coolant hoses can be made to order« on: 02 March 2019, 08:48:51 am »
Make sure it is the correct kit. They used to be some confusion as some places thought the FZ6 kits fitted the FZS 600. There should be more than 8 hoses for a full kit

SFS have got a set of original Fazer 600 hoses because they never returned mine when I tried this a couple of years ago!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Blue Spot Rear Caliper« on: 21 February 2019, 02:04:38 pm »only the fazer 1000 and xjr1300 are a fit the rest will nee major mods to work These require minor filing/grinding to the 600 mounting bracket as the new caliper is a different shape. The blue spot caliper from other bikes look the same but the mounting bolts have a different spacing between them so you can't use the 600 bracket. The 600 uses a smaller wheel spindle diameter than the donor bikes and possibly other dimension differences so the bracket from the donor bike can't be used either 30
FZS600 Fazer / Re: can you clean carbon deposits from valves with out taking off the cylinder head« on: 16 February 2019, 10:04:25 pm »
Compression test will show it there's a problem worth investigating

The "jet" is a blanking plug to seal the end of an internal petrol feed within the carburettor. The easiest way to make the internal feed when manufacturing the carb is to drill it out and then fit the plug to close the end of the hole 32
FZS600 Fazer / Re: Oil pressure switch« on: 11 January 2019, 01:52:01 pm »
The reason is so you don't need to wait an hour after running the engine to check the oil level.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Help with wiring up a new headlight« on: 31 December 2018, 06:48:45 pm »
The black wire looks thinner in the pictures. It could be white and green for the bulb ant the black wire is for the shutter to mask half the light for dipped beam like HID lamps use.
Take the rubber boots of the back of the headlights should show what is going on 34
FZS600 Fazer / Re: Spark plug drain holes« on: 19 December 2018, 04:39:47 pm »
There is a hole from 3 to 4. It doesn't take much to block the holes, an airline down the side of the plug can often clear it, or a hose blasted down there can shift it blockage.
If possible park the bike on the centre stand. I think some people have made a cover out of plastic or metal to divert water and leaves or other rubbish from disappearing down the park plug holes when the bike is parked 35
FZS600 Fazer / Re: Original fitment tyres« on: 15 December 2018, 10:35:04 am »
Found it in the workshop manual
Front tire BRIDGESTONE 110/70-ZR17 (54 W) BT57F DUNLOP 110/70-ZR17 (54 W) D207F Rear tire BRIDGESTONE 160/60-ZR17 (69 W) BT57R DUNLOP 160/60-ZR17 (69 W) D207J 36
FZS600 Fazer / Re: Original fitment tyres« on: 14 December 2018, 06:00:22 pm »
Bridgestone BT57s were the original fitment for several years. I think the official manual also lists a Michelin as original fitment.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Intermittent Non Start« on: 12 December 2018, 11:44:31 am »
If you've got a voltmeter handy when it happens check if 12 volts is getting to starter motor, if it is then probably stuck starter motor brush if it isn't then the relay. If you know what you are doing short the two big terminals on the relay together and if starter motor works then it's the relay.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front Sprocket Nut« on: 05 December 2018, 01:58:34 pm »
Yes it is meant to be hollowed out so the nut pushes on the sprocket and doesn't push on the end of the splines on the shaft. The 9mm nut is also hollowed out so you get about twice the threaded length with the 12mm nut

Could be wheel balance particularly if it is getting worse with speed and causing physical vibration and not just noises

Also check the gear lever pivot on the footrest it can start to seize if the grease has been washed out

That's what official manual says Haynes probably copied. I think I did mine about 6Nm you only want to crush o'ring slightly

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Ahh Coolant leak!« on: 09 September 2018, 10:40:44 am »
And don't overtighten the bolts because half the housing is plastic. The official service manual has the wrong torque settings

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Swap To Hazard Light Switch?« on: 01 September 2018, 03:20:44 pm »
I did the swap for the later model switchgear to get the hazards when I was teaching people to ride bikes as it was occasionally useful if the stalled and stuck in wrong gear and take a while to get them sorted out.
It was a straight swap, I don't think I had to change the relay but it was so long ago I can't be sure, the relay should say on it if it is ok for 4 X 21w bulbs. Later models have the hazards linked to the parking light position on the ignition switch which you don't get if you just swap the switchgear but not really a problem. 45

You can get silicone vacuum hose in the small sizes cheaply to replace the carb heater and expansion pipe hoses.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Engine bars/guard« on: 29 April 2018, 08:37:21 pm »
The rentec bars rear mount bracket is attached to the footrest mounting bolts and the plate extends forward and stops you taking the sprocket cover off when they are fitted. Makes getting to the sprocket a pain since the bars have to come off too. The Heed ones rear fitting uses the engine mount above the gear box which I think is better.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Adding Hazard Lights« on: 29 April 2018, 08:29:47 pm »just had a quick look at the difference - looks like a 2k switch cluster will just plug and play onto a 98 loom and you will have hazards I can confirm the connectors are the same and the later switch fits the earlier bikes. Hazards work fine but ignition has to be on, I think the on the bikes with hazards as standard they also work with the ignition switch in the parking light position 48
FZS600 Fazer / Re: coolant« on: 20 April 2018, 09:34:49 am »
Just make sure you flush the old coolant out completely because mixing OAT and non OAT can cause sludgy deposits that will block the narrow carburettor heating pipes. Drain the old coolant out, fill with clean water and run the engine for a minute or two then drain the water out and refill with the coolant of your choice

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Downpipes« on: 18 April 2018, 04:53:06 pm »Hi, just wondering if anyone is selling any downpipes for fzs600. The top of one of mine has rotted away and I can’t find a single set for sale on eBay other than the new stainless ones but I don’t want to spend that kind of money at the moment just want a quick fix so I can keep on riding. You can get two part clamps like these https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAWASAKI-GPZ1000RX-EXHAUST-HEADER-CLAMPS-1986-GPZ-ENGINE/183117698437?hash=item2aa2aa5585:g:yqgAAOSwcjhaon0M but would have to check pipe diameter and stud spacing to get the right size 50
FZS600 Fazer / Re: Strange Vibration« on: 11 April 2018, 04:18:32 pm »
Don't worry about the bike starting without the choke that is normal for a Fazer as the weather starts to warm up.
