EXUP VALVE.
« on: 02 July 2013, 12:01:32 pm »
Hi all,my gen1 fazer 1000 had a siezed, butcherd exup valve and housing on it when I bought it 8 months ago.took the parts in to a local engineering company, who gave me the news they were fooked.I looked at buying new, forget that idea have you seen how much they are.a local mate told me the early R1s 98-01 fitted straight in,so I took an ebay gamble and bought a complete set of downpipes with exup valve and all fittings for £30.00.stripped and removed the exup valve cleaned all fittings, fearing the worst it wouldn't fit but only £30.00 down,it fitted straight in.if this is old news to fellow owners soz.but the gamble saved me a fortune on new parts.and the working valve has made a huge difference to the way the bike runs,so there is a benefit to having it working.
cheers Andy.  :)

Well done there Andy! Innovation is the way forward, and that information will save some fazer thou owners wondering 'will it fit?'
Good effort :D
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Although you're right about this being a known route to EXUP salvation, you did well to get fully functional EXUP parts from an R1 for £30.

Nice job! :)

I know, £30.00 was a bargain.I had to fetch it myself from near the east midlands airport, but I am only at Rotherham so it wasn't much of a runaround.all the bolts were siezed so they were a bit of a git to get out but once wd40 "n" heat was applied and bits of skin missing when tools slipped, they were soon out.I soaked the remaining valve and housing in oil overnight to give it a fighting chance, and it soon freed off. :) .by the way it is a 54 plate with only 8000 miles on it and the previous owner managed not to maintain it  but butcher it after it was siezed solid.I will now be keeping on top of this.
