You can use Sugru to mount it on the chin, i am going to try this i think. My SJCam feels like its dragging my head to the side. Not sure i'd get a good view from bars with the fairing, might need to stick to fairing.

Welcome

ZZR1400 to a FZS600  :eek , you miss a fair bit of power there i'd imagine. As you say the 600 has its upsides tough and is a very forgiving bike.

I have 758's on my thou, unfortunately they are very new and now miles covered yet. my 600 bars I believe are slightly bent too, i will probably look to go 758 if the others work out well.

The later model Fazers had different pillion pegs, my mate fitted later rear pegs as he thought it was more comfortable for pillion, could that be the case for the link to the rack?

Hi Moff,

I have meant to make one of these over the years but never got round to it, was thinking yeah this is the year i should then noticed I am already signed up for that whole weekend on a charity ride in the north of Scotland.

I hope it does not get cancelled and then i'll defo get my finger out for next year.

56
Hey Ignorant old foccer here,

Tell me more about it, date/dates? starting point, finishing point, time period.
Or at the very least point me to a place I can get the info.
Cheers
tommy

Yeah i would defo be looking elsewhere, unfortunately i'm in Bonnie Scotland so can't help you with a garage in Essex. Hopefully another foccer will now see and maybe give some other options, otherwise its gonna be that 2 hour ride, maybe not a bad thing on a nice day.  :D

58
If you say where you stay maybe someone could recommend a different garage or a more technical foccer could maybe come have a look at the forks?

It sounds like that garage is not working for you with all the issues though so i would definitely be looking at somewhere different, maybe a suspension orientated place?

Not sure there is such a thing for the FZS600.

See the seized compression adjuster threads, does this just mean the screw at the bottom of forks will not turn any clicks?

I am sure mine move as i changed the forks after installing the Devilsym R6 shock. But if thats what the problem for that is i'll need to recheck to be sure as might have that to contend with will doing the forks.

I like my Hyperpro progressives with my upgraded rear shock,  I'm no Barry Sheene but I see noticeable improvement in handling.
I think that if you use your for bike for all-round use, progressives are the way to go.

Thank you for the input, that's the conclusion i came to in reading loads of all the old posts.

Aye, that should do it Tefer. To make a job of it, get the Yamaha OE parts. Pattern fork seals are not great in my experience.

It's not a difficult job bar getting the big allen bolt out of the bottom of the fork leg, which can be a pain. After the first 3 rebuilds, I nearly rounded the bolt out, so I bought one of these. Makes the job much simpler if you've access to one.

Other than that, go slowly, keep everything as clean as you can and enjoy the rebuild. As for the springs, I popped some Ohlins progressives in years ago and you can barely tell the difference between them and the standard springs. Maybe I should have gone for higher rate, but it's not the massive day and night difference you get when changing the rear shock for a better one. Honestly, I'd not bother ...

Thanks for that AyJay, I will be enlisting the help of a friend who is a mechanic (car) this will allow me access to better knowledge and also good tools. Just wanted to be sure I replaced all the parts that matter as want it done right. That is the Yamaha Parts picker so wanted to get all the numbers and then go to my local dealer to get the Genuine Parts, i will get that done tomorrow.  :)

I have seen numerous posts regarding the front suspension and most agree that the Hyperpro kit is better than standard but maybe not as good as linear setup. I am willing to give it a try. The bike has already benefited from a Devilsym R6 shock so hoping to get the front a bit better setup, new oil and that could be all it needs but will give Hyperpro a shot. Thanks for the input though.

Hi Tefer,
you have not said what bike it is that needs the forks upgrading,I note that you have a Thousand and a 600 which bike are you doing?
The exploded view of the forks that you show are certainly not the FZS 600 forks, so I guess the assumption is they are the Thousand forks.

Hi tommyyardin, posted in the Fazer1000/FZ1 section so that should give a good indication ;)  but thanks for replying and clarifying.

And it is posted in the Fazer1000/FZ1 section.

I had to double check i had posted it in the right place once it was said.

« on: 07 March 2017, 10:18:47 pm »
My dust seals have become pretty corroded and split on the forks so i am looking to do a fork service, I want to be sure to get all the parts to do a complete service. As the bike is fairly new to me and i cannot tell when fork oil and seals were changed i am going to do them for peace of mind. Do i need every thing in green in the picture?

I am also going to look at Hyperpro springs. I have seen the threads saying progressive is better all round and then others saying linear is better as its suited to weight but i think the Hyperpro kit will be best for me as i am not exactly Valentino Rossi. I will also have luggage and pillion an times so feel progressive will be best.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Renthal Bars and Throttle Cable routing
« on: 06 March 2017, 05:22:04 pm »
Hi,

Fitted my Renthal 758's yesterday and had seen a mention of chopping 10mm on the ends but was waiting to see how it all felt first. I have the bars on and when fitting the throttle side it felt like there was a good bit of resistance, is this normal for other that have changed?

The cables sit really close to the servo too for the exup, i am thinking its been routed wrong.

The bike has heated grips but they are quite large compared to Oxford, how do i go about removing the throttle grip if i cannot quite get on with it?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Exup valve help with video

When the engine has been running and then turned off the valve will reset when you next turn on the ignition. If you then do not start the bike it doesn't reset any more until it's been run.If you turned the engine off via the kill switch it would reset then and not when you next turn the key on. Can't help you with servo direction I'm afraid.

The tank was off so the bike never actually started only ignition on and off a couple of times, so i am hoping that it was not started it won't try to reset. If Servo is now dud i will  :'(

Thanks Robbo

Does bike need to actually start for the Exup Servo reset? I fired the battery back in mine yesterday and turned ignition on but no movement on the exup. What direction does it turn at servo, clockwise same as the valve?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Restrictor info needed
« on: 05 March 2017, 09:38:48 am »
Hi guys cheers for the replies!

In regards to the fzs600 being Ok to restrict, I sat my A2 test on a restricted  fzs600 so there can't be any issue with it being legal for A2. My bike at the moment is not restricted but just wanted to know the ins and outs of who is legally authorised to fit the restrictors and do you need proof i.e., getting stopped by coppers or can I fit myself and be all above board and legal

No problems, a few mates have had problems when looking at Fazers for A2 so thought i'd mention, maybe it was an older problem thats now sorted.  :D

The legality is a grey area, for the certificate (old style) it had to be fitted by a garage and cost a bomb. Not sure on the getting stopped if they police would just check you have a licence and not know about the type. If you were in an accident and the bike was found to be unrestricted then you may find problems, but would they check? I am sure most insurance places don't even ask about restriction, or that's what i found, but could be different now as you could now be A2 for years.

Possible stupid question alert but just double checking, is buying this one from wemoto ok (correct part number) or should I be going to Yamaha to be charged a lot more money?

I'd go to Yamaha, think its about £6 max.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Coolant change
« on: 04 March 2017, 08:46:14 pm »
Hi Guys,

I ordered a new coolant drain screw for my FZS1000 90163-06002 this seemed to supersede 90153-06029, it just does not look right though, looks far to big. But thats what fowlers says.

https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/4171180/fzs1000-fazer-5lv1-2001-080-c/water-pump

The radiator drain cap looks a bit perished at the rubber, do you think this will be ok?

Worst case scenario if you were ever to have issues is get the bike on a dyno, even unrestricted, and i think you'll find it doesn't go near 95bhp anyway.

Yamaha say 93.7 so that sounds accurate, the other links are all external and say 95 so maybe just rounded up for the publications. I think it will be ok.

Did you just do front sprocket, do you know what mileage the chain has done, i'd be tempted to do it all?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Restrictor info needed
« on: 04 March 2017, 10:27:23 am »
When i was on A2, the old A2 i was never asked for the certificate from my insurer but i had it done by a shop to i could get the document for it to be legal, it was a pretty big con as they the kit is some washers in the carb (ER5 ten years ago).

So you could do it legally and have your bit paper for insurance purposes (if needed) and to keep it all above board, or you could look to fit yourself, not sure if the police would have to prove its unrestricted or if in anyway you not having the paperwork could lead to bother if ever stopped.

Have you seen the other problem that you might have? The FZS600 is stated in some places to be 95bhp, i am sure the current law says you are only allowed to 47bhp and that cannot be more half restriction, so any bike over 94bhp is not A2 compliant. Of course it all depends on where you look and who you ask.

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/yamaha/fzs600-fazer/1998/ 95bhp here
https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/bikes/yamaha/yamaha-fzs600-fazer-1998-2003-buyers-guide also here

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=289785 this forum member says yamaha state 93.7 as the bhp.
