Thanks kent62 and Slappy for the info. That helps and having looked under the plastic cowling I now see the cut outs. That's great I'll get on with it and see how it works out. Cheers.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Fitting a Yamaha rack
« on: 13 February 2017, 04:33:15 pm »
I've bought a Yamaha rack for the fazer 8. Has anyone fitted one before? Just trying to figure out how much of the plastic to cut out and what's the best way of doing it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I picked up my Fazer 8 today. I had the shop stick on pr3's tyres to replace the OE ones which made it hard to drop into corners and did not inspire confidence when turning. I got on the bike, rode 20 metres up to the give way then turned right and immediately knew that the bike was riding differently. The bike felt brilliant and neutral taking it into the corners. What a difference a change of tyres make especially great tyres like the pr3's.
So, thanks very much 'Unfazed' for your advice. I'm really satisfied and delighted with my purchase. Just for to wait for the good weather to arrive... :D

I'll check all that then unfazed and will put some pr3 tyres on them. Thanks again for all your help. I'll let you know how I get on. Looking forward to getting the bike on Thursday.  :)

Thanks for your reply unfazed. I don't pick the bike up until Thursday. It's a 12 plate and the first fazer 8 model therefore did not have adjustable suspension so nothing has been done to alter the ride quality. Not sure if it could be the tyres. Not sure what they are yet. I actually bought this bike as a pre reg in 2013 then sold it 2 years later and am now buying it back from the bike shop without it having any other owners.
I'll go into the bike shop on Tuesday and ask them to have a look at it. It's always wanted to tuck in at the front so I've always had to fight with it to get it to go round corners! It will be great to get it sorted out. Not sure if a new shock would be the answer?

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Fazer 8 again
« on: 10 December 2016, 07:30:14 pm »
i sold my 12 plate blue fazer 8 about 18 months and only realised now just what a good bike it had been to me. I traded it in and another local bike shop took it and sold it in their shop instead. I was never going to be happy until I got it back so took it for a test ride and it put a great smile on my face. I pick it up next week.
I issue I have is going into corners I feel the front wants to tuck in. Is this normal for the 8 or is it the tyres. I am thinking of changing them for PR3's. any thoughts on tyre change?  :rolleyes

I;ve had 4 prev previous fazer 600...enjoyed then all. Last one being a Fazer S2 2007 model. Really nice bike.  I now have a faired 800 and just love it. It does it all, very fast  :rolleyes , light and just a great handling bike. I hope they keep making fazer for a long time to come. :D

You could always look at the Ventura luggage system. It comprises of a rack holding the luggage on it. Some of my friends have it on their sports bikes and it is easy to detack the luggage from it.  I use the Givi luggage and it is well put together and the price is ok.

Thanks for your comments. Nipped out to the garage in the pouring rain and found its an Oxford Oximiser. By what you are suggesting it should be ok for the fazer battery then?  The owners manual seemed to say that this was a different battery from the norm and that charging it would have to be by a special charger. Not saying that I'm easily confused but didn't want to mess up the battery.

I was going to charge up my battery for the FZ8 to top it up over the winter months but I decided to read the owners manual first of all.  It said that the battery is a Valve Regulated Lead Acid battery and that a special (constant voltage) battery charger is required. Using a conventional battery charger will damage the battery. I've got an normal optimate charger that I've used on the other bikes that I've had. Does this mean that I can't use my optimate charger on the Fazer battery? :\

I bought a fazer8 3 months ago. I love the bike, still have a honda cbf1000 but I take the fazer out first. I've had 3 other fazer 600's over the years and have always loved the fazer range so getting the 800 was great for me. It's a lovely bike, nice sound and looks just great. Not sure what I'd change it for if I had to. Just depends what you've had before and what you're looking for now but either way I'm sure you'd love it.  :)

The givi top box looks really nice. Would have hated cutting holes in the panels if I got the yamaha top box. I'll probably go for the givi box myself after seeing how it looks on your bike. Great choice. :D

I'm really happy with the fazer 8. The tank range is a big thing for me when I look at buying a bike. The fazer8 will easily do 160-170 miles. The MT 09 has a 14.5 litre tank so not sure what its range will be but it appears to be a really fun bike with plenty of power and grunt. The MT will be a great bike so try them both and see what you think. All the best with your choice.

I'm still happy with my fazer8. I've the faired one and prefer that and for what it is rather then the MT 09.

Hi Black8 and everyone,  been busy riding my fazer8 as well. Had it about 8 weeks and have just reached 1004 miles on the clock. I still have a Honda CBF 1000 in the garage (the wife keeps asking when I'm getting rid of it... :rolleyes ). I did 238 miles on the fazer yesterday. Renfrew to Pitlochry and back, 3 times over the Dukes Pass at Aberfoyle. If you want to practice your slow 2nd and 3rd gear cornering for 5 miles then this is the place to go.
The fazer is a fun bike compared to the CBF good as it is.  A nice blue one and I often stand back and admire it as do a lot of passer-bys. Very happy with my purchase. I still have to get something done about the hard seat (as well as sliding into the tank all the time) and looking at getting some hard luggage...top box possibly but not the yamaha one as you have to mess about with the bodywork.

« on: 09 September 2013, 09:58:35 pm »
Thanks, I got the bike serviced by a local dealer. Did a good job and much happier that the bike has been looked at by a mechanic rather thatn myself. Happy riding to come. :)

Fazer8 / FZ8 / First service
« on: 27 August 2013, 07:47:10 am »
I've just reached 600 miles on the bike and am thinking about carrying out the first service myself. Is it just a case of changing the oil and filter and checking the chain tension or is there other things I should be looking at as well. Not really wanting to stick it in to a local dealership if i can do that myself.

Thanks steviest for your cheapist option of getting padded cycle shorts. I'm sure they will work. I'll probably spend my cash on upgrading the rear suspension once I get past the first service. Thanks everyone for your welcome comments.  :)

My friend who has a Fazer 1000, 11 plate also found his seat too hard and had it upholstered by a company called motorbike-seats. He sent both rider and pillon seats to the company who padded out the riders seat with a 'gelastic pad' insert and then covered both seats with a lovely looking basket weave fabric and finished it off with red pipeing.  A nice finish and now much more comfier than the original. Costs about £160 but calling the company I'm sure you'd get a quote.
Other options to look at are corbin or sargent seats which are I think a bit more expensive. These are nicer but more expensive options to a pad sitting on top of the seat but i'm sure all are better options than the original one.
I've not done anything yet to the seat but will probably look at getting the pad insert in the seat from motorbike-seats.
The vibration on the bike seems to have settled down and looking to carry out the first service of an oil and filter change.

Thanks for your comments. Its seems there might be a vibration there but as you say it could be that riding the bike for the first time didn't help. I certainly will be looking at a gel pad or doing something else with the seat. My friend who has a FZ1 fazer sent his seat away and had work done on it. Cost about £160..Is an option but not the first one. I'll have to get the seat sorted out thou to really settle down with the bike and concentrate on the fun part of it. :)

Thanks nick crisp for your comments. It looks like for pading on the bum and just getting used to the seat. Hopefully the vibration goes soon once the bike beds itself in. Still taking it easy with the revs but looking forward to opening it up and enjoying its full power, I had a 07 fazer s2 model which I really enjoyed and as usual should have kept but didn't. This new bike puts a smile back on my face and happy to leave it parked anywhere as its a great looking bike. chuffed with my purchase, :D

Hi,
Just received my Fazer8 yesterday and decided to get some miles on the bike. I really love it, it's put the fun back into biking for me.
But, I did 200 miles today and 2 issues appeared. My bum was killing me after about 60 miles and I got a vibration from the right
handlebar for most of the day but more obvious at about 70mph.
Is this an issue or is it just me? Any remedies to take the pain away?
