General / New money making wheeze for Project Fazer
« on: 17 March 2014, 10:36:20 pm »
People are clamouring for more pics of Project Fazer. So I've thought up another incentive scheme to get me off my arse, and get more pics of the build.

If people donate to the project, they not only get the sponsorship decal on the bike, but also get extra pics of the build process (either privately via PM or publicly, at the donator's discretion).

What do you think? Good plan, or is reality/sanity being ejected even further from the window on the back of a rollerblading jet propelled chicken? I'd say answers on a postcard, please, but you can't exactly enclose a cheque with a postcard!  :lol :lol So answers in the poll above instead, please.  :)

General / Foccers near Middlesborough, help please!
« on: 16 March 2014, 06:17:16 pm »
I need a hand from any Foccers near Middlesborough, Cleveland. I want to  buy this swingarm for Project Fazer:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=301118598407&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

The seller says there's a better deal available with cash on collection. Could a Foccer please retrieve it for me?

Many thanks!

General / Anyone recognise this shock?
« on: 08 March 2014, 11:02:21 pm »
I don't think the shock my Fazer had fitted was stock. Can anyone identify it?

Is there a specific reason why downpipes are circular (apart from manufacturing costs)? Would there be any effect on performance from having a, say, oval-section downpipe?

A few weeks ago, I signed a petition for bringing road tax for motorcycles in line with car road tax based on CO2 emmissions. The petition has received a response from government, which basically says: "You're cash cows, STFU and pay up". Bastards.  >: :2guns :2guns

General / Fazers in CAD
« on: 26 February 2014, 11:24:51 pm »
I thought it may help me to model my project in CAD, to work on a few details. However, I was unable to find any files for the Fazer (any model, bar the 250) to give me a starting point!

So, I thought I'd start a group initiative: model the bikes in 3D, to make a full CAD model that users can then use for precisely my kind of project (or even details like checking fits of new parts!).

I shall start on the FZS600, although certain parts will carry over to the Thou (and other bikes I'm sure!).

I have a copy of Autodesk Inventor 2013 on my laptop, but if we agree on a common file standard, I'm sure most CAD programs will open the files.

Anyone with me on this?

Moto Journal, the French MCN have a resident ex-racer / riding expert: Serge Nuques. In this video, he brings a load of 80s and 90s bikes to the Scorpion Masters challenge (off road, supermoto and track), and challenges modern bikes.

It helps if you speak French! If not, just enjoy the BRAAAAAAP! as he moves off. And despite his technical problems, I think his final score will surprise you...  ;)

FZS600 Fazer / Project Fazer: The build thread
« on: 17 February 2014, 09:32:55 pm »
All threads should start with a song... And what better song (knowing me) than Tubthumping?  :lol :lol
Tubthumping (I Get Knocked Down) Lyrics

Right! Bike time.  :)

So, yesterday, I picked up what is soon to be my new steed! A T-reg, silver Fazer 600. In bits. But hey, got to start somewhere, and for £250, that's a pretty good start.

Argh! Peugeot, stop eating my bike!!  :rollin

As you might be able to see, it is a complete bike. And stainless pipes too, which is a nice bonus! For the curious, here's the listing:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/yamaha-fazer-600-/301094978006?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=rS5Nr6pfg%252B%252BbFQQEIyufV8Cs1EY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

And the LoFos may remember I vanished off on a (not so) secret mission on the annual meet a fortnight ago. And it was to pick this bad boy up:
Bros swingarm
Bros swingarm

The plan is to fit that to the back end. I also plan (eventually) an upside down forks front end. I also plan twin underseat exhausts, the Foxeye tank, mucking around with LEDs in the head and tail lamps, and maybe even the Tokyo Racer oil cooler (as Deefer assures me the plumbing won't be as bad as I thought). Memory bump:

A neatened rear fairing goes without saying (as it will also be accomodating the under seat exhausts). I think I know which bike the curved radiator is from, so that might be on the cards. Other mods include K&N pod filters and an interesting paint job.  8)

Speaking of which....  :D

A plan I have which I want to implement is a "sponsor" style thing. This bike is going to be built with a lot of help from Foccers (well, I hope so, unless Micky uses his new powers to ban me!!  :b ). So, my plan is this: If you contribute anything to this project: time, space, parts, money; anything basically, you get to put your name, forum username, or logo of choice on the bike at the end of the project asd part of its paint job, like the sponsor stickers on a race bike. These will be on the tank, the tail fairing, and the bellypan (as I plan to fit another one). And obviously, there'll be a nice, big FOC-U logo across the front!  :D

The project's only just started, but there's already a list of sponsors with prime sticker rights! This list will be updated throughout the project too (for my memory, if nowt else!!)

Updates soon...  8)

General / Foccers near Chatteris/March/Huntingdon - help needed
« on: 16 February 2014, 09:40:10 am »
Hi Foccers,

I need some help. I need a place to store a rolling chassis for a fortnight. I've just bought a Fazer off EBay, but now have nowhere to put it! And to boot, my internet is down this weekend!

Could anyone store the rolling Fazer chassis for me for a fortnight? After that, I'll have room here for it back here.

If you can help, please text or call me (I rarely check internet on my phone, bar emergencies): my number is 07866455530.

Thanks!

FZS600 Fazer / Fazer 600 with pod filters
« on: 10 February 2014, 11:46:19 pm »
Evening all!!

After a chat with Deefer, an interesting point was brought up: apparently, the FZS600 carbs do not like having K&N pod filters fitted, and the only place that has succeeded in getting one to run smoothly isn't giving up the secret. However, this is a planned bit for my build. So, has anyone here managed to fit K&N pod filters to the carbs, keeping the bike running smoothly, and more importantly: HOW DID YOU DO IT?!?

Just thought I'd throw the question up here, see what people make of it!  :)

FZS600 Fazer / Upside down fork options
« on: 09 February 2014, 10:59:51 pm »
So, for Project Fazer, I plan to fit USD forks. So, what fits, and how much modification to the yokes does it require? Can, say, an R6 front end be chucked on with a bit of milling to the top and bottom yokes?

I know people have fitted FZS1000 forks, and Aprilia RSV Mille forks - any other easy fits?

General / Headlamps in the oven?
« on: 09 February 2014, 10:50:17 pm »
Two questions:

One, what temperature do you need to set the oven to (or what gasmark?) to heat up the headlamp enough to get the lenses off?

Two, how much of a smell will that make? Because I like it here, and don't want to get kicked out!!  :lol :lol

Just a quick shout out to Bozboz.

As the LoFos know, I went to see Bozboz to pick up some handlebars for Deefer. While there, Bozboz very kindly gave me a front fairing, headlamp, mirrors, clocks and subframe for Project Fazer!

Thanks man! Thanks to you, the project is now well and truly under way!  :)

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: Box trailer
« on: 09 February 2014, 09:17:47 pm »
Long shot here!

I'm looking for a medium size box trailer to hold two bikes. I'd also happily take a flatbed of the right sort of size to build up a body for.

I'd like to spend around £100/£150 (max) for a box trailer, and not more than £75 for a flatbed.

Cheers!

General / New Top Gear
« on: 02 February 2014, 09:18:47 pm »
Anyone else watch the new episode of Top Gear tonight? I wasn't too impressed, TBH. The idea of the 80s hot hatches were good, but they ruined it by pissing about too much at the end. It's really gone down the drain, didn't find it that funny at all.  :(

FZS600 Fazer / Swingarm spacing?
« on: 29 January 2014, 11:31:02 pm »
Weird question I know, but here goes: What is the width of the swingarm at the pivot point? And how far out from the bike's centreline is the rear sprocket?

I ask because I'm making a detailled list of parts I want for a custom FZS600 I want to build when I have a bit more cash, and had a little idea I want to toy with.

Also, what are the negative effects of fitting a narrower wheel to the Fazer?

General / Overheated ZX - any ideas?
« on: 29 January 2014, 09:08:48 pm »
This is something that has been puzzling me all month.

As you're probably aware, my ZX-4 blew up on the 31st of December (yeah, fuck you too, 2013!), and I'm trying to work out why. And how! How could a bike travelling at 70mph through cold air overheat? It's a watercooled engine, true, but why would it blow up at that speed? It would be more understandable if it had been in town, but not, this was on the A303, braking for the Andover slip road (seeing a friend). And the speed at which it blew up concerned me too - one minute it was registering just above stone cold, and then within under 10 seconds, the needle was registering the red zone. The knocking noise followed soon after, and now the entire coolant system smells of burning rubber.

I won't be able to get the engine off to strip it for a while, so does anyone know what would cause the bike to overheat so dramatically to give me places to look? The oil/water pump idea seems to have been a red herring - when the mechanic at Hatfield drained the oil, there was nearly no contaminatio, aprt from what would be expected from a bike that had been standing a while. Looks like the head gasket is OK too.

The rad fan, on the other hand, has half melted!!  :eek

General / The Peugeot 106 - a note to smart arses
« on: 27 January 2014, 07:26:18 am »
Right, grumpy hat on.

Can you smart arses please stop banging on about the car on every single fucking thread? I am not off Fazers by choice, off bikes even less so, so having you buggers bringing it up the whole time is getting slightly more than tedious.

Not only that, it's pissing other people off too. Every thread I visit now gets hijacked, to the annoyance of the OP and those following it seriously. If nothing else, it isn't fair on them.

Let's keep the car to the "Whatever else" thread, and if you can't resist making a witty quip, make it here instead. Or foc off.

Love yas!

General / Bike storage in Essex - LOFOS PLEASE READ!
« on: 26 January 2014, 11:39:04 pm »
Is there anyone in Essex (or nearby) who could store a non-running Fazer for me for a few months? I've found an absolute hound on Ebay (with thanks to Bigsteve), and I need a place to put it until I can get it back to France as a project bike.

Cheers!
