Foc.....yep, your right there dazza, every now and again shit happens    :\ .........just out of curiosity how old  was the chain ?

on the bright side......not long now till the new bike arrives   :thumbup

another answer to your problem, how are you with the spanners, how about buying just the engine cases off ebay/breakers and swapping over yourself ?
Hello Paul, yes, got to take it on the chin haven't I. Can't really say that I'm that gutted, Had nearly 5 years of reasonably trouble free biking from her and Like you say, less than a month now and I will have my new bike. :) This will give me a little project to tinker with.
It's ironic as I had just left my brother after he rode it to try out the new bars and I had mentioned that the chain and sprockets were approaching 30k and the chain had a very noticeable tightspot. Replacing them was next on my list, so I was aware. :\
As for spannering, pretty confident with most things but can't say that I've ever stripped down and rebuilt  a four stroke engine....How hard can it be ?  :lol
After Nickodemons comment about his mate repairing his crankcase, Exupnut may have a point with going down the repairing road. we'll see. :)
And Harry, you may call it misbehaving but when no one else is about, I call it having fun  :D

broke it, that's what i did  :thumbdown

did headlight mod and fitted new exhaust but realised had stripped the studs on rear sprocket carrier when torquing it up... so another delay in riding! replacement coming from a breakers hopefully tomorrow.

Also never blindly follow the torque values in the service manual....

Sheared the fan mounts off the radiator. Top nut came undone easily enough but when undoing the lower nuts I suddenly found the nut and mount attached to the socket
Fan was going in the bin so not the end of the world but couldn't believe how little effort it took to shear off the mount.
Another few grams saved
Complete fabrication, I didn't make it up!

Started off last week attempting to replace carb to cylinder head rubbers(see "a senior moment" thread! :lol ).
Bike is now resting on stand/wooden blocks,  exhaust system off,rad removed, checked, repainted, coolant hoses checked & refitted with s/s jubilee clips.Entire front of engine derusted, repainted. New fuel filter % also 2 x rad hoses, 4 exhaust port gaskets, small bore carb heater hoses & clips.
Carbs about to be overhauled with service kits. Removed forks to access & drill out lower rad mount bolt that had corroded & snapped.
Now I discover steering bearings "notchy" so thats the next job!
Was planning to do all these jobs come Autumn/Winter but  I have started now so may as well do the lot....Did I mention the front forks--going to phone/see my local "guru" re  re-springing/oil/seals. His replacement Wilbers rear shock has transformed the bike. Best £300 ever spent on any Fazer I have owned.
Oh yes forgot to mention the front caliper bleed nipples are seized-have got  a pair of stainless ones from Powerhouse so may as well do the full service on the blue spots. :lol

Managed to free up my seized wheel adjuster with a ring spanner  and wind it back in so will fit the new swing arm at a later date  and fitted new rubber cushioned sprockets front and rear. Should be super smooth and quiet when she's ready for the  road.

Weather looked OK army this morning so I rode the 1000 to work. The 3 hour (100 mile) normal car journey took only 2 hours on the Fazer.

Had a lovely ride back home as well - 200 easy miles for the day.

So, how do you edit typos and wrong auto-corrects out of posts?

My iPad decided "early" was really meant to be "army" in my post above, but I can't see how to amend it - I may just be stupid as well as old !

It's a male and a member of our charity group the MKG (Milton Keynes Garrison) and he left quite a few 12 inch long curly hairs on my saddle

Tried to swap 2003 clocks for my 1998 ones, didn't happen as the wiring is different. Yes, I have the wiring harnesses for both and thought it was a straight swap but the connections in the black box under the tank is different, so I'll need to rethink :(
Also fitted a digigear (thanks Anutz) but again didn't work due to programming but I'll try to do that tomorrow on way to work as apposed to on the centre stand :(
I will however need to rewire it again when I manage to work out how to swap the clocks!
Ahh the joys of tinkering :lol
