Rode her for the first time. :D
OH and put a santa hat on the back. want to be festive and whatnot.

Ah a nice fast silver one, the best.

Everyone knows red is the fastest, why do you think Noggy bought a red fazer and scrapped the silver one  :lol :lol :lol

took off the stuff to get to the camshafts and measured the clearances, all okay, bar 4 exhaust gaps.  will pull the camshaft off tomorrow and start sourcing shims, gaskets, coolant etc.  also order block off plates, so i can ditch the AIS.

Dropped it again  :'( :'(

Coming out of the work car park, turning right and the front just slipped as if it was on ice, didn't even accelerate particularly fast and off it went sliding down the road leaving me behind.

The crash bungs did their job again and mostly protected the fairing. Tank is fine, brake lever is scratched up and bent, bar end is missing a nice chunk and the exhaust took more of a beating this time :(

Bloody ell mate that's shit.

At least you're in one piece and the bike is rideable though, i dread being an all weather biker and riding on that type of surface, theres so much crap and crap surfaces.

I wonder if the handlebars are straight considering how much of a bash the bar end has taken.

Whilst it's probably true that red is the fastest colour,it's well known that the MK2 600,such as you have, is significantly faster than the MK1 due to the more aerodynamic fairing ;).It's probably good for an extra 15-20mph I would expect :D.

Was there frost on the tyre by any chance?

Blue ones were so slow they did not even need restrictors for the old 33hp restriction  :lol

Replaced the shims, and refitted the camshaft.  These gen2s are bloody easy to work on - well done yamaha for actually providing decent timing marks (still used tippex in a belt and braces approach), half the job of my old fzr1000.  Now waiting for the block-offs to arrive and get it fully reassembled.

Applied the brakes going down hill after some rain, felt front wheel go, stuck a big left hoof out, let go of brake and prayed. Some poo came out, I somehow stayed up, reapplied the brake in micrometer increments and stopped all in one piece with the shiny side still somehow up. I have a few pints to buy my guardian angel whenever I meet him / her that's for sure. Only riding the bike to work at the moment because an ankle injury is stopping me cycling....

Never happened to me before, I locked the rear a few times on my old bikes but never a front. It was in a dark part of the road at night and when I looked back it looked like there was some sort of shimmer in the road like some spilt oil or diesel was down but hard to see. I'm glad you saved it too though! I wouldn't want to pull stunts like that on something heavier than a 600. I also saved a nasty high side last year coming off a roundabout in the wet with my dad following, he came past after shaking his head with the "lucky sod... well played don't do it again" look. Traction control, ABS etc. just weighs you down!  ;)

don't forget your dislike for a humpback bridge or whatever it was with a car coming the other way...didn't you injure yourself there? :evil

yeh I came flying round a corner on a freezing cold day and there was a couple of cars going slow as foc and I approached them too quick.....on with the front...a bit more......and more and then oops lock up ....cue me wobbling around in some old wifes mirrors and stubbing my toe:(

I've done some heavy braking on the thou but never felt nearly as close to locking as I did with those blue spots....they're a good brake fair play.

Ah yeah, ye olde' hump of doom as I now call it. To be fair I never dropped the bike although the fairing was obliterated as was my knee ligament... It could have been much much worse so was actually fairly happy with that one as well. Doddsie, you can't be my guardian angel you can't keep up with my silver beast on that slow red and black one  :evil .

Not that I noticed, it's been fairly mild today with no frost over night either. I didn't notice anything on the road surface, but there have been some heavy vehicles using the road for some works they are doing further up. The other thing is that the road really does have some exaggerated camber on it... I'm guessing that plus cold tyres and a not so great surface lead to it :(

I'm planning to change the tyres, but can't afford to until after Christmas. The hope is to actually have the car back on the road this week... I've lost count of how many times I've said that though

A brilliant little ride today, in sunshine with DRY ROADS!!

Swindon -Avebury-Marlborough-Pewsey-Upavon-Marlborough-Swindon-Witney-home. About 120 miles, very little traffic. That bit from Upavon to the A338 was particularly fun, and I had it all to myself  :D
Maxxed it out today (well, almost) too, on a private runway that looked surprisingly like a public road I often use  :b

Happy; very, very happy  :)

Aye, much better now.
Still a bit weak muscularly, a little funny in the knee joint, and had to stretch it more than usual, but, getting there nicely  :)
