Glencoe, Oban & Lochleven....great day out with 16 other bikes

Would love to ride some of those roads again. I will someday, but don't think it'll be until I can afford to B&B it to avoid the midgie scourge inherent with camping there. Probably not next year, hopefully the year after (if I can get a passport  :lol ).

Meanwhile, how about some pics on your next little jaunt BBB?  :)

Bought a new rear tyre from Russ in Horndean, then, to scrub it in, rode up to Box Hill and back :-)

120 miles. Llandudno and back via St Asaph, Llanrwst. Warm, sunny day, lots of bikers out. Unfortunately yet another biker hospitalised after a collision near Corwen. The ambulance passed me on the way home. This follows the death of a 55 year old biker last week on the same road, near Bryneglwys. A sad end to what was a nice day.

Finally got out for a spin after doing my airbox mod, new filter, blocking off the AIS.

I also fiddled around with adjustments on the gear linkage and increased the idle speed....& put my baffle back in.

Had a nice spin to the beach where i bumped into a couple of crazy fools, 1 on a naked FZ1 & the other on some Aprillia race supermoto type thing that only got 40 miles to a tank of fuel :eek ....after a yatter they invited me along on a coastal spin which was good fun although they were on the back wheel allot & i haven't tried to master wheelies yet....was good fun until the FZ got a nail in his tyre and they were off for a kebab anyway so i peeled off and headed home.

Bike was faultless throughout and sounds awesome with the K&N at circa 5k revs.

Cleansed my sould nicely. 8)

That was a long day! Left home at 8:30 this morning, didn't get back til 9:30 this evening. Had a ride down to Exmoor, took the coast road from Minehead to Lynmouth, and snapped some views of Exmoor:

And a couple of snaps of the coastline on the descent to Lynmouth:

Had fish and chips by the sea at Lynmouth:

And a couple of general shots taken for the hell of it:

Covered a fair few miles around the moors too, Exe Valley, Bampton to Minehead, Minehead to Lynmouth (twice!), and generally just followed my nose with no set route. 397 miles covered today  :)

15k when I bought it in June 2013, about 40k now; only occasionally used to commute as it's only 3 miles to work, hardly seems worth waking the bike up for. Talking of which, I'd better get off my arse and get to work!

New throttle cables for the 600 have turned up today, so I'll be fitting them on Saturday hopefully, along with the carbs from the noggyfighter ^.^

Tightened the headstock a bit.  It's stopped the death wobble when letting go of the bars at speed.  Why let go? Just one of them things blokes do...

Took a ride down to BMAD Paignton bike night as I normally do on a Wednesday, only this time I had an old video camera my daughter found in the back of  cupboard sellotaped to the front indicator. Its pre-HD vintage and the built in screen doesn't work so its taken a bit of fiddling to get the settings right and it pointing straight. It turns out that windows Movie maker doesn't like the output from the cam and squashes everything up, so I've spent the day learning how to use lightworks instead. Ho hum.
Oh well, here's the vid, plus if you check my youtube channel you can see the first couple of attempts.

Met up with Mr Midden for a coffee at Nell's and had a pleasant blast around the Kent countryside. Beautiful mild evening.  Long live the summer.

Removed the old throttle cables and threaded through my new OEM ones... then realised that noggy was kind enough to have included them on his carbs... I really should have looked before I bought the new ones, woops

I then spent about 15 minutes cursing trying to get them attached to the carbs and a further two hours trying to refit the carbs... I forgot how much of an absolute pain in the ass job this is

"Re-fitting my carbs was easy" said no Foccer ever.

So, I opted for a potentially stupid option (this happens far too often when things don't go my way) and wrapped a ratchet strap around the carbs and the head of the engine and ratcheted the buggers on!! It wasn't super quick, but it certainly made life much easier. At this point, my back reminded me that it was now totally ruined and that I should go back in doors...

Never had a problem and this is how I do it.
Loosen the screws on the OEM inlet manifolds hose clamps until the ends are flush with the end of the nut.
Moisten a cloth well with WD40, rub it around the inside edges of the inlet manifolds.
Do the same on the rubbers on the air box.
Put the carbs in from the right hand side, fit the throttle cables.
They will now push on easily to the inlet manifolds.
Now push the air box rubbers on to the rear.
Check all are on correctly
Tighten the bracket on the top of the air box and frame first before the tightening the bolts on the side of the air box.
Tighten the hose clamps.

I've done it before but never remember it being as bad as it was today... I'd used a smear of petroleum jelly on the inside of the rubbers but they were having none of it. The airbox side was a doddle and was fitted in 2 or 3 minutes...

The only thing I can think of, is that it was because it was a different set of carbs from another Fazer...

Got it McIvanised yesterday (slip on kit) by Mike, hosted by Brian both top blokes. Took hardly ant time at all and then told to take it for a try out which I only had to do for a few hundred yards to notice the difference, pick up much smoother and quicker and it just felt like a different bike, the rid home and the one this morning were just great, got some work to do over the winter then the full monty!
