Just got it back from the workshop. Major service, oil break fluid coolant changed, new air and oil filters and valves checked new d.i.d. Chain and spocket. Runs like a dream. It was gleaming when i left. Eight miles to get home and its caked in poop. All in all five hundred quid well spent. Its a shame there are so many foot deep puddles across the roads. Im still a happy bunny.

Replaced rusted ginger brake caliper bolts for new titanium bolts.
Some say that he eats habanero chilli peppers dipped in oil of capsaicin for extra bite and that his pyjamas are made from Nomex. All we know is, he's called Ad the Bad

pushed it down 2 sets of stairs to get it into the garage so I can start changing over the chain and sprockets.

Spent all day on my knees drilling, tapping, shattering taps, re-drilling, re-tapping and then putting in new stainless studding.

All so that, once the paint's dried, the freshly welded downpipes can finally go back on!

Fitted my freshly painted radiator to the Gen 1 and replaced the coolant. Fitted a new set of spark plugs and a new petrol filter.

Anyone who says the spark plugs are easy to change using the tool provided in the Yamaha tool kit is telling fibs and I had the radiator removed at the time which gave me even more access  :'(

Just waiting for my new air filter to arrive from 'Fowlers' and I can put it all back together again. Lovely.
Yamaha Fazer 'the only bike you'll ever need' maybe ???

Removal of the AIS seems to be the way forward when dealing with the spark plugs on the gen1

I haven't had to do the job yet, but the AIS has been removed on mine ^^

Yes I'd agree deadeye. Removal of the AIS would make the job so much easier but I like a standard looking bike with all the bits in the right places with maybe just a few tasteful extras. I just don't see how the plugs can be removed with everything in place ? How do they remove them if you take the bike for a service ? Do they really have to strip everything out of the way to get to them. Unless you have hands the size of a 1 year olds I just don't see how its possible. The only reason I replaced mine was because I had the radiator off for a repaint, otherwise I would have left them well enough alone. I can't understand why access to a standard 'service' part is so awkward  :\

I replaced my plugs the other week (AIS fitted!). The easiest way I found to remove them is by using the plug removal tool from the bike's tool kit under the seat...

I Have replaced mine with and without the AIS and it is a foccer of a job with the AIS present , I removed the tank , you could prop it up and used the tool provided with the tool kit .

Fitted the new air filter to the Gen1 and put it all back together. This took about an hour due to dropping a bolt for the tank mounting bracket on the garage floor which took about 50 minutes to find  :'(

I'm going to paint my garage floor white because at the minute it seems whatever I drop, blends in and takes ages to locate.

Cannot wait to get my hands on this bad boy. As some may know I have bought Neils FZ1, Neil has fitted these top box plate and brackets for me this week. Better service than one would get from a Yamaha dealer thanks Neil.. As I live out in Spain and the FZ1 is in Scotland me being a tight arse would not fork out the transport costs to here £350 to £600 quotes I was getting. Fly over in April collect the bike then get the chance to piss off the Kawasaki Z1000SX owners forum Spring ride out (which I am organising as a previous owner) Then it will be the long haul back to Moraira Costa Blanca Spain.
Have boughty myself a gel pad as the old bones are not what they used to be and I think I will find the seat on an FZ1 not as comfortable as my FZ6.
Anyone heading down this way about 28th/29th April want to team up.
Lew
