It could be that instructors don't teach 'blipping' because it's too much for a new rider to remember, but having said that, it's definitely a good thing to practice once you've got familiar with riding a bike. I reckon if 500rpm is a good example, then it'd be good just to stick it in neutral and practice blipping by that amount (while looking at the rev counter) to get a feel for it so to speak. That way I'd know by feel how much to blip by. Good idea?

Idon't think its a good idea to be telling (not as experienced ) riders 500revs / 1000revs as on top of everything else they are going to be looking down at the counter, and after all they are changing down to turn? enter a roundabout?. Just "blip" the throttle is all they need to know and practice will perfect how much is needed in all instances
I think you missed the point, the 500/1000revs were an example of how little you need to twist the throttle to get the desired effect. :)

Yeah, that's what I meant

Had a great ride up the A44 to Pembridge (just west of Leominster) to get a few snaps for sketching inspiration. Roads were largely quiet on the way up, the tyres were gripping well despite the cold temperatures, and I was wrapped up snug as a bug. I didn't actually realise how cold it was until I stopped for petrol and took my helmet off, so this kit I bought for backpacking has proved to be more effective than anything else I've ever used on a bike. Add to that Spada Enforcer gloves and Oxford heated grips, plus thick merino wool socks under the boots, and that seems to be me sorted for the winter  :)
Sorry I didn't call you Slimwilly, but I didn't get going til 11:30, got to Pembridge at about 2:30 and didn't stop too long. Left there about 3:00pm, paused in Worcester for a couple of snaps, and headed home again.
Happy  :)

Fitted the new right side wheel bearing and seal to the Gen 1
Yamaha wanted €60 for bearing and seal, local bearing shop had bearing and seal for €20. The bearing was KOYO the same the original and the seal has exactly the same markings as the originals.
Definitely didn't think the Yamaha boxes were worth €40 just to throw them in the bin  :lol

Rode home from London, using the moon to read my dials because ALL of my cheap Chinese LEDs blew!

Then got home to find my R&G heated grips had arrived. Fitted and almost looking forward to the cold ride tomorrow morning.

Love the pictures as they remind me of the two years I lived in Leiston, Suffock. I still have my British beer can collection (empty of course) packed away in the garage. Great times.

With only three 70 degree days left (according to the weather quacks) I took one of my favorite rides up to a small mining ghost town named Lake City. During the week there is almost no traffic on the roads once I got off I-25. There were still a few trees with gold leaves along the way so it was a nice ride. Normally I stop at Sparky's (http://sparkysburgers.com/) on the way home for supper but they are closed on Tuesday so I plan to get back there on Thursday before the cold weather arrives. Hit the F trip meter at 170 miles but was almost home by then. Life is good.

I'm sat chilling with a whiskey after finishing my night shift and driving home at 1deg looking at pics of a dry warm new Mexico.  I must have been really bad in a previous life.....:-\

Went to go for a ride yesterday, battery was flat as anticipated (I have an LED drawing constant power -- something I aim to fix by using a separate battery pack) so tried to bump start it... and then pulled a muscle in my back... no riding for a day or two :(

not today, not even yesterday, BUT MONDAY I  stripped ,cleaned ,checked & rebuilt rear caliper, fitted rear braided brake line, bled system. Stripped rear wheel, swingarm, & rear suspension pivot bearings, Bought tin of "Gunk"-cleaned off 10 yrs worth of chain fling from front of swingarm. Put everything back together. Yesterday she fired up first press of the button-OH JOY! How I love my Fazer!!  Next on list is get engine up to operating temp, then recheck coolant level. Change oil & filter and reposition, adjust Scotoiler feed. Finally clean chain & then RECHECK EVERY FASTENER IS CORRECTLY TORQUED UP! Then & only then apply protective coating of ACF 50/GT85/Silicone spray and connect to Optimate say "Happy Hibernation" & put dust cover on.  But if we get a nice day or two........Wakey Wakey Time! My back aches & my finger nails wouldn't pass inspection but Im a happy old foccer! :lol

Finally got out on the bike today after about 3 weeks of it not being used ^^

On my way home decided to stop and pick a few groceries, completely forgetting that I am now riding a 1000 and not the 600... the problem with this you ask? The complete lack of any under-seat storage :( I could get half a cucumber under the seat and that was it... thankfully I hadn't bought much and managed to stuff the bag in side my jacket for the ride home which included a large bag of carrots, celery, spring onions etc - needless to say the cold vegetables stole and core heat I had left :(

Got my fazer out today for the first time in 4 weeks, a bit slow to start but eventually got going.
Typically no sooner had I got it out then it started raining. Still I decided that as it was out then I was riding.
Went for a 40 mile round trip into North Wales avoiding the odd fallen branch and patch of mud courtesy of the farmers.

Even though it was a bit wet and blustery I still enjoyed it. Just glad it is optional nowadays and I don`t have to commute.

Ok this is true, it was easier than the full explanation of "I'm a fat bastard and trying to loose weight so eating salady things as a snack instead of everything else that is apparently fully of calories" - its a stop gap measure until I start keto again after Christmas :P

I am not hijacking anything! :P

Finally got the time to balance the back wheel of the Gen 1 after fitting the tyre last sunday and wheel bearing and seal tuesday.
All ready to go the long way to work in the morning. :)
Used the hooligan bike for work all the week (Serow) :lol
