Brother in law, fellow biker is a traffic cop, says he knows how easy it is for someone to steal a tax disc from a bike, he and a lot of his mates have no problem with people photo coping the disc and putting it on the bike so that it is visible, plus it is easy for the authorities  nowadays to tell if a vehicle is taxed mot`d and insured.

Snow here as well, (Cumbernauld) but only about two inches that`s because the further north you go the colder it gets so you tend to get shrinkage   :lol

Thanks for the recommendation, think the Canon 500D seems to be a better camera, and the price is a lot more affordable.

Would you recommend any lenses? Or would the standard 18mm-55mm IS Lens be the best for a beginner?

« on: 25 September 2012, 08:15:43 pm »
My 16 year old son has taken an interest in photography lately, so was looking to buy him a good starter DSLR, he has done a bit of research himself and came up with the Nikon D3100.

Have read some reviews and done a bit of googling but as I aint a camera keek was hoping to get someone on here with a bit of knowledge. I know there are a few of you out there so any help on the best budget dslr would be great.   :)

General / Re: For shorter bikers: How to save £200!
« on: 24 September 2012, 07:46:54 pm »
If, like me, you're of a smaller stature than most bike manufacturers want to cater for, you'll probably have found that many bikes have a seat that's so high you can't flat-foot it on both (or even one) side.

Now you could go out and buy yourself a set of Daytona M-Star Boots which are very nice, but also bloody expensive (the cheapest I can see them is about £250 including shipping from Germany!)

So I looked into this and found a couple of better options:

1) Buy a set of "lifts" like these (search eBay for "Heel Lift shoe inserts - Height Increase Insoles" if that link has expired) which can give you up to 1" leg length (provided there's room inside your boots) and cost about £4

2) Go to Timpsons (or any decent cobblers) and ask them to put a heel (not spiked, unless that's your thing ;) ) on your boots. For £30 Timpsons added an inch to my boot heels and it means that I can now flat-foot my FZ6 Fazer on both sides without having to lean it so far over that I have to worry that the weight is going to push it the rest of the way as has happened in the past.

Total cost £35 and a hell of a lot cheaper than a set of Daytona boots!

Being one of the vertically challenged bikers i think I would have known better to have posted this, Usually i just get the seat lowered, saves a lot of hassle and mickey taking. ;)
