Curiosity and the cat?
« on: 14 January 2014, 07:17:05 am »
Wel as some if you know I went with the whole powder coating the bike frame red and have the bike back together a while and had to get my new headstock bearing right b4 a decent blast,

Wel I ended up going balls out down the road, moderate-strong head wind but chin down on tank in the end I managed to push out 138mph b4 I caught up with a line of cars behind a tractor

I'm not condoning it in any way shape or form, I know it's dangerous and all that but just wondering has anyone else got a better top speed out of the boxeye? I'm sure with a different ratio on the sprockets...... But just with standard set-up?

I've seen just over 140 on the clock, probably downhill with the wind behind me :D This is when I lived next to an out of commission airfield and the rare occasion we could get on it to play!
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Ah, that would be nice to play on alright, I didn't intend on going balls out, doing about 110 in 5th a and just went to 6th, stayed at that then yanked the trottle, prob should have gone back to 5th to higher rev but was halfway up the straight and all,
Forgot to ad that there was a very light incline In the road aswel.....

For the power, I don't think they can go much more???

I think book speed is about 135 ish, depends on what literature you read. 140 is respectable for a do it all bike if you ask me.

Saw exactly 140 on the clock two up on a motorway coming back from a MotoGP race in 2004. Not saying where, but I was doing 110 and every bike and car seemed to be passing me, so I said Foc this and followed them.

Lol, bit embarrassing that alright, but it's not half bad at all for the bike that it is, but pity it only makes it power up so high, Ur battling in 6th to get up and over the 10,000 and 11,000

Seen 142/3 ish while back on a very early summer morning up said motorway , no breeze at all .No other cars on road also .
Needle was vibrating between 141 to 145 ish . So low 140 is good enough for me , kept top speed for good few miles too .
Not tried it again and prob wont unless i ever get round to a track day.

I strapped a gps to the bars on my boxeye and had a steady 141mph show flat out, the clock said 150mph, I weigh in at about 10.5 stone so that helps, k&n air filter, sandy spares downpipes, delkevic can with no baffle.
All on private roads you understand :rolleyes anything else would be illegal and irresponsible, just not like me..... ;)

Lol there is room for error though in both gps and tachometer (somewhat) more in the gps I'd say, not even the satellite could keep up with ya

I think it's just one of those things you need to do to try and get out of your system.
It's not like it's even enjoyable, your neck takes a hammering trying to fight the wind with your lid, your concentration and judgement has to be extra sensitive whilst looking way ahead, and it really helps if there's very  little or no wind at all.
The fact I had a passenger actually helped because I also have a top box and the passenger helped streamline the bike a bit better, when it's just me the top box will eventually cause the bike to wobble at high speed because of the wind.

And of course there's the major fact that you have to take road conditions on trust, and after just watching the news and seeing the ever increasing potholes then it's literally a fingers crossed scenario.

Yea it's not all "that" so to speak, original screen makes it hell,

I literally put my chin in the tank at 120 and even at 125 my helmet was still battering away with the lack of coverage to push the wind over the helmet,

In doing this, u are now looking tru the screen, which is lightly scratched but still blurs vision even more, also now u can't see Ur mirrors,

Also Ur arms are now in a position Ur not accustomed too and have to make adjustments to suit on the spot,

And stopping distance at that isn't worth thinking about either,

Plus what about bearing failure at that speed? Chain breaking??? Tyre stripping due to surface?

List goes on, just something to think about if you ever try it......... On a enclosed track of course...

Don't want to detract from this thread but something else I feel one has to do at least once is to break the speed limit on a pedal bike.
I find it much easier now that there are 20 mph limits all over the place  :D .
Not found a 20 mph fixed camera to make flash yet though  :( .
