FZS600 Fazer / Cross contamination....I mean compatibility
« on: 04 March 2024, 12:54:02 pm »
Wondering if any parts from other models are easily compatible with each other?

From my other post about the 'starter cut off' - found that it's the ignition switch at fault - it has led me to confusion and frustration trying to find the correct replacement part.
My switch (2002 fzs600) has the 7 wires (5+2) but all I see are ones for up to 2001, or ones with every year listed, but with 6 wires (4+2)

I've seen a couple posts on here about Foxeye/Boxeye (???) and a mention that the 2001/02 fzs1000 ignition switch is the same.

Seeing the official Yamaha parts catalogue says they are "unavailable",  is there another option apart from converting my 7 wire to a 6 wire which I'm not sure I have the necessary patience to do?
I'm getting kind desperate as bike has been off road for too long and I need to get it sorted for transport.

Thank you both. Again the ones on eBay are mostly 6 pin or don’t show enough detail for me to decide.
Also, I’m not competent enough to try and do any conversion like that.

As stated, in need of the switch assy for 2002 fzs600 (UK) (and the keys as well I guess  ;) )

Seeing a few places like M&P state that theirs are for this year but the wiring is wrong - one of the connectors do not have the correct amount of wires!

I don't care if it's been painted bright pink with blue stripes, as long as it works correctly (continuity checks between paths etc)

Prefer to pay through PayPal or if you have an eBay link etc....
Not looking to spend mega bucks because....well, I'm skint lol

Cheers all.

For Sale & Wanted / FZS600 2002 ICU for sale

Is it ok to simply post my eBay link to this??  -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226029130177?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=-xcY9PsFS9q&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=-xcY9PsFS9q&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Ignition control unit from (potentially) a 2002 fzs600
I got this from eBay a couple weeks ago, it was listed as a 2002 but I have no idea if they fit other models/years.
I never fit it to the bike or tested it at all so it's still sat in the box it came in.

Great condition to be honest, no cracks or anything.
Selling for what I paid for it.

FINALLY (I think...)

Been out today checking continuity etc on nearly everything I could find.
I'm pretty sure I don't have this Diode thing the manual says should be just under the coils/pump plate (should be right next to the fuel sender connector I believe) cannot find it without taking the whole loom apart!

BUT I digress - I've re-checked the continuity on the ignition switch and one path is faulty while the others where fine.

So, I'm selling the ICU I got from eBay the other week for £30 as that's what I paid for it - never even fit it to the bike - and trying to look for the correct ignition switch.
I keep seeing ones listed as 2002 but the wiring is wrong - there's not enough of them lol.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm in UK with standard UK bike.
Example, manual shows a R/Y wire coming from the cut off where I physically have a Blk/Y.
Also, the checks it says to do for said relay gives totally wrong wiring colours!

So, with a little bit of blue showing through the clouds, I'm getting out and checking ALL the wires end to end. I've also got a 2nd hand ICU from the bay - worth a go I guess

Cheers for the replies so far.
I'm getting a bit frustrated with the Haynes manual cos they give the wrong colour wires in the text compared to what I physically have and what they have in the diagram!

FZS600 Fazer / Starter cut off or....?

Hey all, so I've been looking through some of the old posts to do with the same issue I'm having - no spark - and I think I've narrowed down the problem but have a couple of questions.

1. the initial clicking/ticking you hear when the key is turned (button NOT pressed), is this the starter circuit cut off/fuel pump relay?

2. testing resistance on the ignition coils - primary - the Haynes manual states the reading should be between 1.87 - 2.53ohm. I'm getting 3.5 on both coils and according to the book, they need replacing but I've seen a few people saying that reading is ok?

3. what is the most likely cause of no spark? I don't have the funds to start replacing loads of bits.
I have checked:
battery is charged and holding full charge;
new plugs;
plug caps and coils HT leads are testing fine;
fuses are all good;
earths are good as far as I can tell;
starter motor is turning over and solenoid is clicking as it should;
pick up coil is fine (even though the manual gives the wrong colour wires!);
checked connector blocks and all seem fine - no corrosion and tightly connected.

I'm about to test continuity on pretty much everything and carry out the tests for the starter cut off/fuel pump relay as per the book but I think it's that that is causing the problem (very limited knowledge but logically thinking...)

Sorry it's a lot to take in but I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing

All lights on dash are n, horn and lights work and engine turns over.

Cheers.....anyone!

Hi hello and howdy.

Recently joined, had a 02 600fzs for nearly a year now.
I'm in Bristol and don't get to ride as much as I should - cos bikes got issues!..

I'm hoping some can help me get the problem solved as cheaply and as easily as possible.

Unfortunately Im not a font of knowledge but I'll hang out and have a go as much as I can.
