Starter Solenoid compatibility
« on: 25 July 2016, 01:06:18 pm »
Hi All
2010 Fazer8 14K  clicks on start button. Think it's the starter solenoid. it's been doing it for a wile now.
Anyone know if the Fazer8 solenoid is compatible with any other models. I'm trying to get a decent second hand one, but market seems limited, I thought maybe I could search under another model?
Thanks for any info

Hi,

I haven't tried that, but the battery is less than a year old and on an optimate, so it should be ok.
Thanks

Ok thanks, I'll give it a try.
Last few days I have just tested how it starts each morning. first depress of starter swith I just hear the solenoid click, wait a second and try again, and this second time it starts.
it's done that for the past 3 days

Not sure what to do really, i don't want to have to shell out for a new one unless I really have to.

I'll check with a jump start and test all the connections for tightness, and see how it goes.
I'm off to Wales for a week in a couple of weeks so would really like to know it will not fail while I am away. :(

Hi
No luck yet. It has started fairly consistantly on first or second push for the last week. Not happy that it is right, buty don't want to fork out for a new solenoid unless i know it is the reason. If I get any more insight, i'll surely let you know.

thanks for that my next job is to trace the earths to the frame and engine and check them when i get the time can only be a connection problem im sure. battery is at 12.8 volts like i said i have cleaned the solenoid and battey terminals  so next step trace it back. tank and filter has to come off to get to the engine earth  also have cleaned the main fuse. all this started about a week after i did a mod too have both headlights on so took the fuse out of the headlight see if that was the cause but still had same problem so thats eliminated
ill keep you informed

Interesting .
Mine was doing this .
I bought a second had solenoid .
I also fitted a new battery as it did not click with jump leads or bridging the solenoid.
All Ok now.

Bike refused to start today .
The Meta alarm had gone completely dead .

I decided the only way to cure this once and for all was to remove the Alarm.
After striping of the rear bodywork (the alarm unit is under the tail unit) I cut out the motion senor ,indicator, side light ,led, earth and live wires .
This left just the ignition circuit that had been cut into.
One I found this I cut and re solderd the wires back together..
The bike then started.

Still been having  intermittent non start problems .
The ignition would come on but starter would not spin when button pressed.
It turned out the wiring and connectors to the solenoid had been burning.
Yamaha made up a little loom and new connections.
