Fzs1000 cooling fan acting weird
« on: 20 January 2016, 11:59:46 am »
I've just got a 2003 Fzs1000 and the cooling fan seems to be acting peculiarly

When first started the fan comes on briefly even when the engine and coolant are stone cold

All other bikes I've had the fan won't turn on until 98-103'c

Sounds normal mine does the same. I seem to think it stops when you put it in gear. But I might have imagined that bit it's been a while. ..

That's normal, pick it up off the side stand and put it in gear and it will go off until up to temp, it's a protection thing.

As Tmation says this is normal and is to be expected. I contacted Yamaha to find out why they have set the bike up to do this and they said it was to prevent the radiator fan blades warping from the heat given out by the headers.
