Cx500. .....
« on: 01 January 2016, 01:36:52 pm »
My lad has decided to refurbish a cx500. I think he has a bit of a soft spot as we have pictures of him sat on one I had years ago. Anyway the one he's bought had been partially converted to a trike and has lumps of the frame missing, I know it's a long shot but I don't suppose anyone has a cx500 frame getting in their way? Happy new year all.

I know where there is one but I'm sure he won't part with it but I might be working at his house in the next few weeks so might ask but he's the sort of bloke that has a car parked in front of his house (on a private road) so no one can park there, the car hasn't moved in the last 6 years that I know of.

I know where there's a guy with a couple of disassembled plastic maggots.... I'll ask him although they have become sought after as they are popular for modification (fuck know why?) with the hipster/cafe racer/hot rodders at the moment.

Couple on ebay but pricey

Could have brought a fleet of them for what they're asking for a frame these days
Complete fabrication, I didn't make it up!

Everyone and their wife seems to be cafe racering them at the moment, which is beyond me because they are wank. They were wank 30 years ago and time has not made them any less wank

Now then! Having owned one for a while (30 years ago) I can only agree with you, I would not be in a rush to own another. Even though I have full experience on rebuilding the engine after the big end bearings fail.

One thing I'll never understand is why they fitted a turbo to one. Like polishing a turd

They were very popular with the dispatch riders at the time weren't they. That's usually an indication of reliability isn't it?.

Odd styling though.

They have some reliability problems I've heard, not sure what, but it was enough to put me off of buying one I had found in mint condition. Anyhow, you might find these pics inspiring (since the text is in Serbian):

Thanks for the replies.  The one I had years was £50  in several boxes crank u/s I put it back together and ran it for a couple of years,  our eldest was about 3 years old when we took his picture on it and now he seems to have a soft spot a bit rose tinted I think but there we are. I keep checking on ebay but they seem to be in the states, we nearly got one off gumtree but missed it by hours. Anyway thanks again I'll keep up the hunt.

I think he just wants it road legal, we could just cobble things together and weld on bits and bobs to replace the bits chopped off.  I just thought a replacement frame might be easier but finding one seems harder than I'd hoped.
