Once you get on the motorway and the revs exceed 7k the consumption shoots right up.

Back from a trip to the Alps and I must say I was disappointed with the thirst of my Fazer 8 when compared to my old FZ6.  However I believe that the Fazer 8 does suffer from a smaller tank which is a shame.  Was travelling with a mate on his Fireblade and his tank was outlasting mine!

However, I have to say the Fazer 8 does tick all other boxes!

Just a word of caution on the Gold ASV levers.  They look superb when first fitted - and subsequently.  However be prepared for them to fade in colour (the clutch more than the brake due to more use).  They do have a 5 year guarantee but that does not cover colour fade which was a shock to me!  After shelving out £160 for the pair two years ago it has left a nasty taste in mouth.  The fading is actually quite dramatic!

Cheers.

They didnt do too much more than I could have done myself to be honest.  They have wired the feed into the loom so it looks nice and tidy. When the main beam is on the dipped goes out rather than both remaining on.  I know - robbery - but it is the price I decided to pay to have peace of mind that it wont fail the dreaded MoT.  They beleive the beam is OK.
It really does look good so recommend you get it done/DIY.

Had the modification done - bye bye £70.  Both lights on when dipped.  On full beam the dipped light goes out.  Have asked about MOT etc.  Can't guarantee it's "legal" but they will be carrying out the MoT anyway - and he said "we'll just take the wire out during MoT and put it back afterwards".
Said the point about the over heating wire is nonsence.  They made a nice job of it.  And the lights look ace  :D

Difficult to argue against it to be honest.  The only point that has been made by a number of Fazer 8 guys is that if you get the modification carride at the same place you get the Mot it will be difficult for that garage to argue an Mot failure!
My missus has said  the alternative is to ride with full beam on - which does have a certain merrit to make you recognisable and help prevent the SMIDSY brigade!

I have heard a lot of people making comments about the rear shocks but to be honest I have not really noticed anything too annoying - YET.  Mind you I have not realy had time to take her out for any form of serious ride yet.  Just the standard daily commute to and from the rail station - 20 mile a day.  Likewise I was advised not to take the revs above 6,000 rpm until after the first 600 miles.  Looking forward to seeing what she is really like when the throttle is opened up :-).
Good luck.

Not sure but as a history I can tell you that I previously had a FZS600 fox eye model - with the old Thundercat engine on a 2002 plate.  The earlier model (pre fox eye) had the same issue we have with "one eye syndrome" but Yamaha listened to riders and brought out the fox eye version in 2001/2002 with both dipped lights on as standard.  I actually didn't pick up on the fact they went back to old style until I had purchased the bike.  This action completely mystifies me!  When I contacted Clay Cross the service department claimed "no one has ever complained before and lots of bikes only have one dipped headlight on at any time".  My bike is due in for first service at the end of the month.  I don't really want to pay them for work I can do myself but am consious I could end up failing a mot further down the line with a  bloody minded MOT inspector  :\ .  Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

 Hi
At last I managed to track down wiring circuit diagram for the 2010 Fazer 8.  I have managed to deduce the following:
Digi Colour Black to FZ8 Black - Earth
Digi Colour Red to FZ8 Red/Green - Live
Digi Colour Yellow to FZ8 Red/White - Tachometer (Rev counter)
Digi Colour Green to FZ8 Yellow/Blue - Speedo
Digi Colour Brown to FZ8 Blue/White - Neutral
Digi Colour Orange - not connected
From the attached would you agree?
 Thanks
 Peter"

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Stomp Grips for the Fazer8 / FZ8

Stomp Grips fitted.
NOT an exact fit - primarilly because the Fazer 8 US model is not the same as the European model.  The US Fazer 8 has the Fazer 1000 tank fitted!  Guess it's because the US market require a bigger tank for longer stopping distances between petrol stations?  Who knows.
Oh well, it was only a very slight adjustment that involved a slight "snipping".
Bit disappointed that not a perfect fit but good enough I suppose.

Hi
Interesting!  No I have not had the chance to give it a go yet.  I don't suppose you pointed out the wiring colour scheme to them did you?
I took the Digi Gear off my FZS 600 - where I had installed it myself with no problem.  However, whilst Data Tool were able to help with the FZS and provide the wiring mapping colours, when I contacted them this time I did get a response but all they did was referred me to their web site - which actually was no help at all.
I have traced the wiring scheme from the work shop manual that I got from this site.  Fairly confident it's right.
Were they not able to tell you why they couldn't get it to work?

I paid £6399 for a 2010 pre reg with no miles on clock. That seemed a reasonable price to me.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Stomp Grips for the Fazer8 / FZ8
« on: 16 May 2012, 10:31:55 am »
It is becoming clear to me that the introduction of the Fazer 8 was not a huge success story in the UK - mostly I guess down to the price.  Just try and get hold of a set of stomp grips in the UK and you will find it impossible and be directed to a "universal" fit requiring you to "cut to size".  The American Yamaha "blurb" says they are the same as '06~'11 FZ1.  Maybe the American FZ1 but not the British! Trust me they are NOT.

See here:
 http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/accessories/acscitemdetail/5/535/2221/20973/all/1/8346/0/detail.aspx

The trouble is trying to find these in the UK.  The link on the web site sends you to Yamaha US.  If you search on e-bay for instance they look nothing like these!  I contacted my local Yamaha dealer (where I bought the bike) and they knew less than me.

So I googled the part number   ABA-0SS56-21-79  and had partial success but all the web sites are in the US.  The recommended retail price from Yamaha is $48.95.  The first seller I found wanted circa $150 postage!

Anyway, I plugged away amd found these guys:

 http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-ABA-0SS56-21-79.html

They sell them for $41.26 and the postage to UK is $15.95 making a total of $57.21.  Could get sucked into an import duty hike I suppose but worth it to get a set of properly fitting tank AND side grips.

I have ordered today - will update you all when they arrive.

Hi guys.
I purchased a Fazer 8 a month ago after five years with my beloved FZS 600.  A reluctant seller but after 44k on the clock I just couldnt justify spending anymore cash on her.
I am in Derbyshire too.  Would welcome a ride out when weather improves.

Can anyone advice how this modification is made? CMC claycross appear "completely in the dark" because no one has mentioned it to them before! The question is is it simply a bulb swap or does it require wiring change as well?  The bike look "odd" with one "blown bulb".
Thanks

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Fitting a Digi Gear on a Fazer 8
« on: 04 May 2012, 12:04:56 pm »
HI guys

Well the time came for me to part company with my trusted 2002 FZS 600.  She served me well but after 44,000 miles (and a quote of £500 labour to fix a busted exhaust engine bolt - labour alone) it was clear she was not going to last another year save me spending serious dosh on her.  So there she went as a part chop for the new Fazer 8.  Regrets - none so far but early days!

Anyway, taking into account that I was given the square root of zero as a part chop I decided to strip as many accessories off the bike before I exchanged and where necessary place on E-bay.  One piece was my trusted Datatool Digi Gear.  I had previously managed to wire her up to the FZS and it proved very trustworthy and I utilised it more than the speedo and rev counter.  So now the time has come for me to attempt putting her into the Fazer8.  Armed with the wiring diagram (thanks guys) I am still left wondering what wires go to where!

Is there anyone in here that can provide a basic "this colour wire on the bike goes to this colour wire on the digi gear"?

Thanks
