Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / LOFOs: Whitstable Egg Run March 17th
« on: 05 March 2024, 11:35:12 am »
It’s that time of the year again. The Annual Whitstable Egg Run leaves Tankerton Rd car park at 1pm, I usually aim to get there for midday weather permitting. Either bring an egg, or do as I do, make a donation to one of the several collectors. There’s usually a burger van in the car park providing refreshments if needed, but I’ll make an early start to take in a caff on the way. If anyone fancies the ride I can meet Junction 2a M26(A20), but it would be earlyish around 8am.

I don’t know why I bother posting these events, as it’s only me that goes :lol . Anyhow, as usual the meeting point is Tankerton Rd car park CT5 2AS at 12 noon, leaving at 1pm for the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother hospital at Margate. There’s usually an on-site burger van for drinks and food. If you don’t want to bring a toy, which is a chore, cash donations can be made to authorised collectors in the car park. I’m happy to lead a morning ride to the event via a cafe, starting near the old Oakdene cafe, close to M25 and M26, but it would be an early start to get to the ride start venue by approx 12:30.

Just a heads up. It’s the return of the annual Calstock bike rally and show next weekend. Entertainment starts on the Thursday evening Aug 3rd. Usually have around a dozen bands performing over the weekend. Pay on the gate for camping. Current forecast is for rain :'( ,but can’t sit around waiting for the sun to come out.

7
I can arrange a ride from north Kent if anyone’s interested.

8
Just a heads up if anyone’s at a loose end at the end of April. Hopefully the weather will be a vast improvement on 2021.

Just a headsup  regarding this annual event. The meeting place as usual, is the Tankerton Rd Carpark CT5 2AS. Leaves at 1pm. Normally a burger van for early arrivals. The run is to the QEQM Hospital in Margate. I find it easier to make a donation on the day rather than bring a toy, the choice is yours. If anyone wants to go I can make a bit of a ride out of it via a decent caff, starting at Wrotham Hill near both M25 and M26. As always weather dependent.

General / Bol d'Or 2022
« on: 13 September 2022, 12:55:15 pm »
The Bol should be a bit special this year, celebrating 100 years since the very first. The bikes all loaded and whatever I've forgotten will have to stay forgotten. I'm on the 02:20 Eurotunnel in the morning, so will be leaving home just before midnight. Tomorrows weather is crap all day, when I checked earlier, so the waterproofs will be getting a good work out, although I know they'll be fine.
The trip meters have been reset to zero, as need to keep an eye on progress, as the first 300 miles will be very boring, and more a matter of just burning through two tanks of petrol, and is quite mind numbing. The prize being the road south of Vichy, and on to Le Puy en Velay and my overnight campsite. The weekends weather at the track looks good and hope it stays that way, as the mistrale in 2019 certainly spoilt the weekend.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / ULEZ Compliancy
« on: 05 April 2022, 09:14:10 pm »
I know that plenty of Gen 1 owners have successsfully received CoC certification without problem. However I completed the form this afternoon with relevent attached frame and engine numbers, and got a reply within hours to say it’s not ulez compliant. I thought all Gen 1’s had a NOX of 0.09 which is way below the ceiling of 0.15 required by TFL. It’s a 2005 and have owned from 8,000 miles. Any idea why I got the thumbs down.

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / LOFOs. Whitstable Egg Run April 3rd
« on: 15 March 2022, 06:36:45 pm »
Just the usual heads up. It’s the Whitstable Egg Run April 3rd, leaving Tankerton Road Car Park, CT5 2AS, at 2pm. Bring an egg or make a donation on the day. Hot food available in the car park. The run is to a school in Canterbury.

General / Carole Nash Select Rider Policy
« on: 04 February 2022, 01:28:54 pm »
Just a heads up as I was not aware of this particular policy, which isn’t accessible online. (Phone no. 03339993022).The normal CN multi bike policy includes breakdown and legal protection etc. With the Select one, these are only added at your discretion. As my travel and breakdown are covered by my bank, this Select policy is ideal and has just saved me almost £200 on my CN renewal :thumbup …….. however in the bigger scheme of things, that’s 200 quid towards the next gas bill. :'(

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / LOFO's. Dec 5, Whitstable Toy Run.
« on: 17 November 2021, 06:12:19 pm »
Any LOFO's with nothing to do on Dec 5th, it's the annual( although was cancelled last year) Toy Run to QEQM Hospital in Margate. Meeting at Tankerton Rd carpark CT5 2AS and leaving at 1pm. There's a cash collection at the start if you're unable to bring a toy. This will be weather dependent for me, as I'm 60 odd miles from the start, but will be going via a decent caff if anyone fancies a day out, weather permitting. Can sort out a meeting place whenever.

Anyone who's in to EWC, might be interested to know that Spa returns to the fixture list next year, the date being June 4-5. It's already marked on my calendar. :thumbup

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Changing throttle cables
« on: 31 July 2021, 07:28:20 pm »
With hopefully an upcoming trip to Spain in September, I’ve got it into my head that at 16 years and 40k miles, a throttle cable could let go at any time. I’ve read through Pats Page and also Mike’s carb removal advice, and am assuming there’s no way a changing them without carb removal. If that’s the case, is it necessary to remove the carb bank totally from the bike, or would enough space be gained by separating the carbs from their inlets. Thanks in advance for any advice/info.

General / Poor mans Kriega.
« on: 30 July 2021, 04:39:30 pm »
If you’ve got Kriega luggage and wanted to add to it, or maybe baulked at Kriega prices, I’ve come across a good alternative from Amazon called Rhinowalk. They make (copy) the 10,20 and 30 litre tail packs, that are compatible with the existing Kriega US range. I’ve just bought the Rhinowalk 10 litre, already having the Kriega 20 and 30 litre packs. This will be used to carry summer waterproofs, spare gloves, puncture kit and compressor. It fits perfectly to the bike and also when used in conjunction with either of the Kriega packs. At £25, that’s a decent saving over Kriegas £89 for the 10 litre tail pack.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS Clutch Cover Bearing Instal Help Required
« on: 13 April 2021, 02:33:19 pm »
Getting my clutch cover powder coated has turned into a drama. I'm considering buying a new cover if a good used one doesn't turn up soon. However I'd need to fit the 2 bearings that support the clutch operating rod. The top one is doable, but would anyone have any experience of fitting the tiny one that is located in the centre of the cover. Thanks in advance.

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: FZS1000 Black clutch cover
« on: 13 April 2021, 12:48:19 pm »
Having waited six weeks to have my clutch cover powder coated, I've finally got it back but the colour is nowhere near the original. If someone's got a mint black cover that is no longer needed, that would be much appreciated.

Marquez has been declared fit to race, returning next weekend for the GP in Portimao. With 16 races remaining on the calendar, and a 40 point deficit, I certainly wouldn’t bet against him.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 1 Foot peg hanger rubber bush removal
« on: 21 February 2021, 11:29:52 am »
I was hoping to get the foot pegs and hanger/heel plate assembly powder coated. However the hanger is rubber mounted and would melt in the oven. Anyone have a suggestion for removing them undamaged, as although they are available, they’re foccing expensive.
