Do you actually need more power than a 600 if your going to be using the bike mostly for commuting?
Maybe a Transalp, TDM or similar would do the job and offer a little more weather protection, just a thought.

what you probably mean is more torque!

I would suggest a TDM, or a Breva 1100 with a screen and hand guards from the stelvio,

actually a Breva is a great choice, with huge amount of torque, comfort and interesting to ride at any speed!

I use the standard jobbie, it works great, but only after I fitted handguards

Seems that the hand guards change the airflow of the mirrors!

you tighten it up, then hit the end of the bar end with a hammer, the shock breaks it off, you should not be tightening the bar end to tight that it strips anything, the bolt or bar end needs to bottom out, then put some pressure by tightening a bit more

IMHO I think you'd need to be looking at the Nitron Track shock before ruling out the R6 shock. The Basic Nitron Sport shock lacks features of the OEM Fazer shock like independent adjustment for compression & rebound damping and a remote reservoir. The R6 shock gives you these so is going to be more of a like for like upgrade, the Nitron Track also has these and brings ride height adjustment to the mix.

I have a Nitron race shock, bought it unused for the same price as the R6 upgrade, it's fooking  ace  :lol

Tank range on a Gen 1 is typically 170 miles to the light

Hold on a spring clipping minute after doing my Ivan mod in 1879 I never got better than 150 to a tank :o

So you Sir owe me money Sir but as it was a while ago you can pay me in peseta :lol

I have had over 200 to a gen 1 tank to the light, just reasonable brisk touring, normally get about 180 mixed and 150 hooning! :b

I don't think you will be disappointed in either, but buy a mint gen 1 rather than a rough gen 2!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: FZS 1000
« on: 28 March 2014, 10:47:40 pm »
I thought the FZs600 was a fantastic tourer, took me and the wife to France a few times, wife preferred it over the 1000, because the acceleration was less instant,

I had both machines at the same time and found the 600 more nimble and better brakes, and much more fun when wet and slippery, a fantastic bike, I found it could accelerate as fast as I could think, whereas the 1000 was faster, hell I rode it around for a month thinking the thou was nothing special, before realising I was changing gear at 4000rpm  :lol

I sold it to a mate, who sold it to another mate, it now has mid 50's thousand miles on it,

Recently I bought another, they really are cheap at the moment, so my plan was to buy decent suspension, which is the one thing I hated about my first thou, so I have a Nitron shock, fully adjustable expensive one, that I picked up for about the same price as the R6 conversion that Devilsyam does, it's back on the road beginning of next month, you won't be disappointed in either!

Was going to get the R6 shock mod but have a bit more cash than I thought (no luke you cant charge me more  :D )sooooo do I get the R6 mod and some new fork springs or the Nitron sport shock and sort the front out later...
Bearing in mind I don't ride like Rossi and i'm touring Europe this summer two up fully loaded....

I am going to do the cheap front spring mod sometime soon, which involves cutting an inch or so off the spring and replacing it with a spacer, and replace the fork bushes, I was going to buy the R6 rear shock,  but managed to get a very low miles Nitron shock, the expensive one, for only slightly more, it has height adjustment, but I have yet to try it on the road, as I only fitted it mid week and the bike is booked in for a mot on the first of next month, I would have certainly bought the R6 shock if the Nitron had not turned up cheap!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Exup troubles
« on: 23 March 2014, 06:50:45 pm »
Had the mighty Fazer though out after about 5 months of Scottish winter. Kept it on a battery optimiser and put a fuel stabiliser in for good measure. After about 5 minutes saw the dreaded rev needle going to 7k and back to zero continuously......bastard exup seized me thinks....went straight home nursing and cursing hoping I wouldn't do any damage.

Now question is do I try and fix myself or take it to my expensive trusted mechanic......anyone got any idea what this is likely to be and and what cost

How hard or how easy it is depends on when it was last done, the bolts have a habit of snapping and requiring drilled out, if it comes out, then it is easy,

What I do is mix some copper slip, mixed in with graphite powder from sandpapering a joiners pencil, until the copper slip is black, then use that as a lube, once the shaft is cleaned up with sometime sand paper,

I did mine last week, but everything came out without snapping, last one I did I used a blowtorch on the bolts but still snapped one!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: timing advancers
« on: 22 March 2014, 12:50:46 pm »
I have a cheap ebay 4 degree advancer fitted, it improves low to mid range response and helps with starting both cold and warm, the offset is that what it gives at the low end it takes away at the top. It's swings and roundabouts really but if you spend more time in the lower half of the rev range than the top end you might benefit from fitting one.
Ive had a proper plate but never fitted it, its all sound good - but can someone remind me what the downsides are again..?

The downsides are that you buy it, but never fit it!  :lol

For Sale & Wanted / Re: clocks
« on: 19 March 2014, 09:56:15 pm »
It was me who bought the clocks, I only need the outer top case, as mine is slightly damaged on the fuel gauge face, if you need a set, the internals won't be used!
You don't happen to have the reset button from the damaged speedo going spare?

I was hoping to sell the complete unit, the front cover is only slightly damaged!

I need a new clock face for my fazer 1000, the clocks work fine, but there is a crack over the fuel gauge

I know the 600 clocks are cheaper to acquire, do they use the same pod, can I just remove the front of a fazer 600 set of clocks and fit it to my 1000?

does anyone have the 1000 front cover without damage to sell?

FZ6 / Fazer / Sat Nav Mount
« on: 19 February 2014, 01:10:44 pm »
I use a ram ball that replaces one of the bolts, m8 one, mine came from a teleferiser mount, that uses a rubber bung in those bikes with hollow steering stems,

Replacing the clamps would probably work out cheaper though!

This is a picture of it on my old bike, but it's the same fitting the fz6

Enjoy arseing about with the indicators;-)

It will be easy, having done it many times before, the fz6 fazer is much harder to fit,

It does fit the givi rack arms
they didn't, i used to be an engineer though.
They're strong enough to drop the bike on 2 up unscathed.
If he wants just the racks, £80.

Sorry at £80 it's to much money, he can get the tubular ones for £109 including delivery!
