I like the 'safe to ride without a helmet'. It's reasonably safe now, just crashing without one can be problematic.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: 1999 FZS600 Fazer for sale

Yep, still for sale. The clocks are kmh but there's a device that makes them read mph, so it has done 53300 miles, 40000 of them by me!

For Sale & Wanted / 1999 FZS600 Fazer for sale-NOW SOLD
« on: 18 July 2016, 12:27:46 pm »
FZS600 Fazer in black. T reg, 1999. MOT May 2017.

Originally an import so has kmh clocks but has been converted to read mph. Mileage 53300.

Poly 26 fairing with integral indicators and Ermax db screen.  Delkevic stainless downpipes and silencer.

Scottoiler with twin dispenser. Renntec rack.  Thunderace torque arm.

FZS 1000 rear shock with 600 spring. FZS 1000 rear brake caliper and mirrors.

Wavy disc on rear and Ferodo discs on front, approx. 2 years old, see photo.

Michelin Pilot Road 2’s with plenty of life left in them. New battery last year.

Fork bottoms from later model so are painted, not lacquered. Also pillion footrests and hangers to improve passenger comfort.

I have owned this bike since 2002 and have all old MOT’s. Has been very reliable and only let me down once last year, cured by the new battery.

Also included are some standard bits including original fairing in-fill panels and grab rail. I also have a belly pan that I never got round to fitting, and a baglux tank cover in red.
I’ll even throw in a set of carb balancing gauges for the asking price.

Located in Leeds.  £650 or offers.

P.M. me with any questions and I’ll answer as soon as possible.

Cleaned for MOT. Lost oil filler cap (don't ask), order new one, passed MOT, then discovered a very nice Puig alloy chainguard in the bargain bucket at Squires shop.
£15, but had to modify my route home to avoid motorways as it was a bit flappy on my rear rack. Result!

I had a classic quite a few years ago. If I added the wife to my policy it got cheaper. Best thing was she only had a provisional license!
The explanation was that when adding your partner you left the car at home for them to use, they didn't, and overall had less accidents.
Under-standable, but as she couldn't drive anyway how they came to this conclusion was beyond me.
Tell you what love, I'll leave the car for you that you can't drive and go walk for the bus in the pissing rain shall I? Crazy.

When I was changing my rear disc I found that all bolts started turning. Brilliant! Easy job.
Three then snapped and with MOT re-test looming I got hold of another wheel.
I think the end of the bolt goes through the wheel into the hollow part around the hub.
Crap on the end of the bolt then seizes it when it gets in the hole as you're un-doing.
Get genuine bolts, they're surprisingly cheap, seem to remember mine came from Fowlers via my local bike shop.

Literally, I'm not kidding. You could spit from the gym car park onto Greggs property. When the wind's blowing in the right direction you
get the aroma of do'nuts, yum yums and bread floating across the place. Don't know how the chubsters don't get together and ram the
door to be honest.

Just joined new gym that's opened near me. They must have a sense of humour as it's literally next door to a Greggs factory!!!!!!!!!

I've worked in China on and off for the last few years, with sub-contractors and our own factory over there. Their main problem is that they're over-enthusiastic.
They'll ignore every written procedure that they have and just get on with it, not always with the best results. Also, there's a lot of un-skilled labour, so instead
of using a technical solution with one man, they'll throw ten at it.
One other issue is wages and staff retention. They will travel thousands of miles to work, so expect to work twelve hours a day, seven days a week and send their
money home. If where they're working can't provide this, they'll just go somewhere else, so the staff turnover is horrendous.
You can get good items from there, but you need to be careful. Have a look at most of the items around you and you might be surprised.

« on: 05 January 2016, 12:41:02 pm »
Sounds exactly like mine. Often pops and farts a bit after it's not been started for a while. I've never worried about it as it clears up in about 5 minutes.

Just watched it. Fantastic tussle up to then and great racing, but I don't think I've ever seen a more calculated move.
Seems like Rossi can give it, but he can't take it. Shame as I have (had) nothing but admiration for him.

They look cool and I'd love some but don't have a Paypal account  :(
Anyone bought some and paid differently? Site states you must have a Paypal account.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Touring windscreens, what you got?
« on: 05 October 2015, 07:27:25 pm »
I've got an Ermax double bubble. Like most I guess, it lifts the windblast higher but still hits me from the shoulders up.
Also, at speed, the windblast makes my head weave from side to side, quite slowly. Bit weird.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Voltage and dying battery
« on: 03 September 2015, 12:49:42 pm »
Exactly the problem I had earlier this year. After 12 years, the original battery was starting to struggle so I bought a new one.
It was OK for a couple of months then would turn over the engine maybe a couple of times, but not enough to start it. Charging
the battery made no difference. I took it back to the shop and they checked it for the starting ampage, which I guess is the CCA
mentioned above. Should have been about 200 but was only showing 17, so was exchanged for a new one and has been fine since.

No but I've been thinking about it with a broken fairing I've got. Be interesting to see some pics if anyone has any.

Had a mower once that had a plastic gear wheel that connected the motor to the blade. The idea was that if you clogged the blade it would strip the
gear rather than trash the motor. I found this out the hard way by trying to cut long grass cos I couldn't be bothered to shorten it with some shears first.
Un-fortunately, I'd borrowed the mower so had to fork out to buy the gear.  :(

I did the same with mine. Faffed about for ages at first with no sign of any improvement, then asked a friend of mine who's an ex BSB mechanic.
He suggested this method of taking the caliper off and it worked fine, as you've found.

Same as mine, but has a MPH sticker over the KMH on the clocks. Does come in handy though to impress little kids who ask how fast it goes!

+1. I seem to remember that Scottoiler recommend places that it will fit on their website.

« on: 27 May 2015, 12:57:13 pm »
Might be interested, any pics? Not of the condition as you've made that clear, just that I have an aftermarket fairing and most of the taller bars will foul
so need to see how high these go.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Speedo Drive - but not what you think
« on: 27 May 2015, 12:50:57 pm »
Some time in the dim and distant past that part was modified. Originally the whole thing was made from one piece of the magnetic material,
but when I bought a replacement the tab part was plastic with the magnetic tube bit glued to it.
My speedo stopped working recently for no apparent reason so went straight to this culprit. Sure enough, it had broken, but nothing some superglue couldn't fix.
