FZS600 Fazer / Re: Disconnecting the alarm on my 2001

Don't know if this will help you. I've just had a look at my 2001 FZS600 that has never had an alarm on from new.

i assume you are referring to the 7 wires under the seat on the drive side.
Plug with 4 wires. A wire loop connects the two wires nearest to the plug catch. Other two wire left open circuit.
Plug with 2 wires. Both wires connected.
Plug with 3 wires (with a bit of my own red tape on). All left open circuit.
hopefully the photo will illustrate it.
Thanks for the photo, I now know that is what my bike should have on the loom, however they are missing from mine, so 2 pairs are joined together while 2 are not connectected,  I am left with seven bare wires and they are all black,  I'm going to have to guess where the ecu wire connects to. The manual isn't much help either it just shows a single multi plug with all black wires

Have you still got the original alarm sockets on bike ?
If so you just need to connect the right terminals.
No they are missing, so I have a real problem I guess.

FZS600 Fazer / Disconnecting the alarm on my 2001
« on: 31 March 2020, 02:51:06 pm »
has anyone managed to disconnect the alarm on a 2001 model, and got it running without,  took my alarm off today(meta, so non original Yamaha) but then I was left with 7 black wires all with a silver band on them, one of the wires comes out of the ecu, the others come out of the main harness, 3 are live with ignition on and 3 are not live. Question is what wires need connecting/ taping up to get it running again.

Yes I did them last night actually, it's defo a mechanical prob on these machines, a proper tingling through my feet at 6250 rpm

Mine does this when moving, rises under acceleration and drops when slowing down, it's because the fuel rushes to the rear of the tank (where the fuel guage is) when the throttle is applied and rushes to the front of the tank away from the guage when slowing/braking.

« on: 28 March 2018, 05:52:48 pm »
I have just upgraded the front sprocket on my 2001 to a 16 tooth item, also upgraded to the 12mm thick nut and new lock washer as it still had the old 9mm nut fitted, the vibration at 70 mph was driving me mad which is why I decided to change the sprocket. So now it revs at about 700 rpm lower, doesn't seem to have affected the performance by much if any, but now is super smooth up to almost 80 mph. Just thought I would put it out there chaps.

Always best to try the cheapest options first, you say you have new spark plugs, I'm willing to bet it's the spark plug caps, by the way this sorted my bike out which was bad, and worse when it had rained. It now runs sweet.

I'm going to be Doing this very job in the next few days, cleaning Pistons in situ does improve your brakes but replacing the seals totally transform your brakes ( if the Pistons are scrap replace with new)
I've got new seals ready, new stainless bleed screws and banjo bolts and new ebc HH rated pads ready to go in.

Well the wonder of eBay lead me to buying a red fairing from an earlier model and I have to say it's a belter also doesn't look out of place due to the black/silver 'fazer' graphics on each side, but I will percivere in trying to fix my original fairing which will be a lot of work and lots of melted cable ties.

Done the job just great, the green cable going into the white junction block inside the black plastic box triggers my relay which powers the low beam on the right hand lamp.
Upgraded both bulbs to xenon and been up an unlit motorway tonight, now gives plenty of light.

Just got my first one, and slowly sorting it out, I paid £650 for mine and expect to spend about £150-£200 on it to get it up to scratch, lucky you for being given one.
Let us know how you get on with it.

Was thinking of doing the same, but with xenon bulbs and using the green cable to trigger the relay

Today I have replaced the carbs, think the others are OK after stripping and inspecting so it was probably the throttle position sensor at fault

And if you expand you can see the missing piece of fairing, it is tatty but I've done a few bikes up in the past and I intend to strip this one next year and give it some TLC

Howdo from north Manchester area, just got a 2001 37,000 mile red/black fazer which was a trade sale with no guarantee or return etc. From a well known dealer(ebay sale)
I paid £650 for it and it ran like a pig all the way home some 35 miles. Good news is that I managed to sort it out with another set of carbs and it runs beautifully now. All I need to do now is re paint the forks, free off the brakes  and repair and respray the fairing and give it a full service etc.
Anyone got any tips for repairing plastic bodywork?

FZS600 Fazer / Plastic welding needed
« on: 11 October 2017, 10:32:18 pm »
Hi I am new on here, but I have done a few bikes up in my time and love to tinker. I purchased a 2001 fzs600 last week on EBay for £650 as a winter bike, it's just a bit tarnished and dirty mainly but the engine is mint and runs sweetly,  so are the forks tyres etc and generally no rust anywhere but it has been down the road and has a chunk missing out of the fairing.
Do any of you reccomend any product that will glue a piece of plastic back in, or does anyone know which type of plastic to use so I could have a go at plastic welding,
Cheers Steve
