America like this country has freedom of speech that is for everyone not just the what certain section of society believe to be right.
That’s an interesting statement Steve. America has long had an issue with freedom of speech. Ultimately America has to a large degree had difficulty in understanding freedom of speech. In America it often seems that freedom of speech is a right to spout any old pish, whatever you fancy, even if you just made it up five minutes ago, about anything and everything.
In the UK, on the whole people have understood that freedom of speech comes with a condition. That condition is that you will be held to account for what you say. So, no you can’t just make stuff up and pass it off as fact, as others have a right to question you and even stop you from saying what you are saying if it has no basis in reality or fact, and in particular, or for example, if your bollocks is an incitement to harm others.
as I said the left and the right are just as bad as each other when it comes to 2017 violence
This isn’t about right and left. It’s about right and wrong. The counter protesters were ordinary people from all backgrounds and all political views who do not want fascists gathering in their town and forcing their evil will upon them.
Fazersharp, I don’t know if Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe is wholly correct in stating that 80% were carrying semiautomatic weapons (not as you state submachine guns) but if you look at the news clips and youtube feeds you’ll see no end of facists with guns and yes some are holding assault rifles.
So yeah, while the police held back, ordinary people fought back with, as you say, water bottles, smoke bombs and pepper spray. While you, Fazersharp and Steve, wish to appease the Nazi Fascists, despite in fact having family members who fought them, the ordinary people of Charlottesville drove them out.
Meanwhile pretty much the whole world is aghast at President Donald Trump’s continuing appeasement of Nazi Facism.
So I stand by my post 114, and I can assure you that I would not allow white supremacists, Nazi’s or fascists the pleasure of freedom of assembly or speech in my town. With freedom of speech comes responsibility.
