not to sure whats going on here but im eating batterys one a year every year , or at least thats what it feels like
meter test readings are
ingniton turn off batter read 12- 12.20 volts
start the engine and it still reads 12-12.20 volts
mate said about my headlights causing issues i have the phillps lights fitted
took the fuse out as mine are wired on dip perminantly 13.40-13.60 volts
could this be my regulator dying ? or some thing else
any addvice welcome
no Im not going to scrap it and buy a gen two ! :lol

What wattage bulbs have you fitted? Why have you altered the wiring on dipped beam? If you pull the fuse to the lights and the voltage reading goes up that would suggest the bulbs are the problem.
Jim.

hiya shrekster Ive only changed the bulbs off the shelf phillps i think there blue something same wattage i think but meant to be 20% brighter
-
Try to get a voltage reading while holding the revs at 3000rpm or higher, let us know what sort of figures you are getting.
Jim.
-
yep did that
the voltaged doesnt change more than 0.1 - 0.2 it just sits around 12-12.20 volts
-
Take the fuse out for the lights and try again .
Jim.
-
yep did that too
"took the fuse out as mine are wired on dip perminantly 13.40-13.60 volts"
-
I'll check mine tomorrow and see what kind of numbers I get.
Jim.

cheers jim I've ordered a new battery anyway ridden the bike round with the light fuse out and the battery is still dead its been on charge for four hours as well but even on fast charge it was only taking 1 amp on the charger dial

Hi Mark :)
Have you checked/changed the white reg/rec connector under the tank? If your charging voltage is down, it's a prime suspect.

Thanks Mike
I got all the bits to do that when I had problems with my speedo , but after cleaning the contector the problems stop so never finished :rolleyes
Maybe its time I did finish it ! :lol
-
well I should have done one thing at a time
for now I cleaned the connectors under the tank as i cant find the connectors I got to replace the old one and fitted a new charged battery
reading are now
ignition off 12.40 - 12.60 volts same with ignition on , engine running no lights 13.40 t 13.60 volts and the same 13.40 to 13.60 volts with the light fuse back in and lights on !
so I am guessing those are ruffly right ?
cheers for the help

Those latest figures sound a lot better.

All the old GS Suzukis used to show 14.5v with the engine running and lights on. Anything above was regulator issues and anything below was rectifier related. I've always done my diagnostics based on those numbers. Do you have access to a manual with the info in it?
