I found the Exup a valuable aid to low down power - others will disagree.

Personally I would look out for one with a fully working Exup - says a lot about the bike.

If you look at the inside of the end plate, there is a raised section where mine had worn like a ski jump....

The valve shoulder fouls against that.

Would work fine until it was tightened up - file a little of the proud section away (trial and error stylee) and Robert is your paternal sibling.

Magnetic pick up on the speedo. Probably got coated in shite.

Probably normal.  If the carbs are stock, the pilot circuit fuelling is going to be a shade lean and with a cool engine that could give your symptoms.  However, it would be made worse if you've some gumming in the pilot jets.  Try a tank or two of fuel with Redline fuel additive to clean the carbs.

And a set of plugs will do no harm unless they are fresh.

Starting these and letting them idle to warm up can "wet" a plug easily.

Not sure if there a separate fuel pump fuse on those.....

Check the fuse box.

How are you testing the pump?

Finally, does the immobiliser cut the fuel pump pwer....?

Sounds like the fan isn't cutting in.

It starts working way before the bike gets warm when ticking over.

Easy fix.

I will assume that your chain is correctly tensioned (bit looser than most bikes....) and lubed shall I?

The only sprocket carrier bearing is on the rear.

Mine protested for quite a while and I couldn't find where it was coming from. The bearing finally collapsed and the wheel ate through the rear spindle completely and the wheel very near came off. I shit you not.

Take the rear wheel off, remove the sprocket carrier from the wheel and inspect. Inspect the rear bearings while you are in there.

That will be a wheel or sprocket carrier bearing then.

FFS!  :rolleyes

Was half interested in hearing about the new motorbike I was....

Time to get off this forum after 10 years I think, going like the other troll infested beauties out there.

Which is a shame. Always found the majority of peeps on here talking sense.

Sounds more like the solenoid to me - common failure.

Jump the poles of the solenoid with a screwdriver and see if she starts. There WILL be sparks.....

A decent bike shop would have charged you an hours labour to do that job on loose forks... £50.00.

Makes you wonder if it was worth all the effort.... :rolleyes

I do hope you put genuine seals in there or you will get to do them again shortly......

To isolate the problem, swap the iffy coil for a one off a good cylinder and see if the misfire moves with the coil.

If it does, new coil, if it doesn't blocked injector is the next thing to check.

1. You may have got the R1 shift mod fitted which can mean the rod rubs the frame. Bend the rod a little if it does..... Or I have the standard shift arm from long gone 02 here somewhere.

2. Put the oil back to the top of the sight glass or you will get paranoid when the low oil LEVEL light comes on when you are riding....

Any decent rad repairers will fix it for about £40.00

I am sure you will have some near where you are.

That sounds fine to me....!

Maybe a little high but the battery condition you describe is technically speaking "fucked" so it will charge as high as possible to put some life into it..... 10.9v cranking is nowhere near enough.

Get a new battery, induct it properly and you problems will disappear.

Get a cheap infra red temperature probe - check which cylinder is misfiring by seeing which is cooler.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handheld-Non-Contact-IR-Laser-Infrared-Digital-Temperature-Gun-Thermometer-UK-/310646217329?hash=item4853f51a71

Switch the plug from a "good" cylinder".

If the misfire moves, it's the plug.

Then switch the cap if it continues to play up.

Then the lead.

If it is still here, it is the carb.

Or maybe an ECU - had a Sprint ST that did that and eventually it was a dodgy ECU. But that shit is RARE!

Be systematic or you will be here for ever.

It was running on three - new coils do nothing for that. Coils run two cylinders each.

That is a plug problem.

If the bike has been started and left to tick over like most do when they are stood then the plug has been become "wet" and needs replacing no matter how shiny it looks.

Start with the most obvious (and cheapest) thing.

New set of plugs.

I agree that the valves rarely need adjusting.

A stamp in the book to say they have been done is a must though if you want a knowledgeable buyer to part with his coin.

To do a major service for us £200 (4 hours) plus the parts. Oil, filter, plugs, air filter, brake fluid and coolant.

May be a bit more if the Exup is focced and needs more than just the normal strip, clean and adjust. Many of them are.....

And we DO the work we bill for....
