When I bought my FZ1N it had a Scorpion can on and the previous owner had disconnected the ex/up valve leaving the cables taped up under the seat.I don't know if he did any mods to the bike but it runs great, perhaps the only thing I could say is that it pops on the overrun which is ok with me anyway.
+1 it's a no no...

The fzs1000 gen1 needs the exup in place to run correctly, the FZ1 gen2 does not.On the FZ1 it is just for emissions and does not seem to affect the running at all, just about every FZ1 with an aftermarket can has no exup fitted. If the popping on the overrun does start to bother you just disconnect the ais and block it off
I apparently had no EXUP valve in my last one. It was a pain at low revs, traffic speeds. I tried going back to a standard can, tried another 'performance' can. Made little difference. I didn't even know it didn't have the valve, so I thought it might be a carb problem. Had the carbs removed and cleaned, checked over. Nope. Then got it full monty Ivanised. This made a considerable improvement, and I was happy enough. When that bike got replaced with my current one, it was only then I realised what had been missing with the low down grunt and smooth pull at low revs, although this one has had the Ivan's from the start. And this despite having owned 3 others before that. I can be such a numpty at times
