Evotech tail tidy for gen 2 fz1. Mine is a Fazer s version but I assume it probably fits the naked (please check) I took it off ages ago as it doesn't fit with a givi rack without fiddling about so just went back to stock. You can use your OEM indicators or get adaptor plates to fit aftermarket for a few quid. The numberplate light plugs straight in to existing loom. £30 plus postage or free collection from Cheltenham or Banbury during work hours.

17k miles, recent service less than 500 miles ago, can put a new mot on with sale (expires in April but done less than 100 miles since the last one) comes with heated grips and centrestand, only one previous owner, owned by my girlfriend for the last 9 years, totally original and unmolested,  everything works as it should. Spare key and magic red key. Just not getting used so it's going towards a caravan upgrade...

£2995 but open to sensible offers. Bike is based in Cheltenham (UK despite my regrettable username)

General / Anyone with MCE?

Just got an email from MCE telling me my policy will no longer be valid after 31st Jan as they are in administration, which is at odds to what they said originally (policies will remain until renewal) it also basically says if you want a refund you are probably going to have to fight for it, which is a bit shit as mine expires in September.

Ironically a quick MCN comparison search puts MCE as the best quote, so if you are in the market for insurance steer clear of them!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Coolant level

Hi foccers. Got home from work on my gen2 today and about a minute after parking up it spat some coolant out of the overflow coming from the expansion tank, about a 1/2 pint. The bike didnt overheat on the ride.


The level on the bottle has always been at the full mark when cold since i flushed the system and refilled with coolant last July. The level now sits about half way between low and full when cold, and the radiator is still full to the top.


I know some bikes don't like the level being at the max like my old vfr which always sat on the minimum line, but I don't understand why its only decided this now about 2k miles later?


I ran her up again and got both fans working at 100 degrees, the stat seems to open at around 77 as the temp drops down to 70 before building back up. I took her out again and all seems normal. Im thinking possible dodgy stat?

General / Levers

Hi, my FZ1 came with some gold foldable aftermarket levers, I've just changed back to OEM purely because I don't like the colour. The levers always fitted ok and look well made but is there any way to tell if they are cheap Chinese copies or a reputable make like pazzo?


I only ask as this would determine their value to sell them on.

Rack comes with all fittings and bolts etc, good condition takes any monolock box.

Top box is givi e370 with two keys, slight scuff on one side about inch long but otherwise good condition. Boughr to commute but never really happened as have a work van now.


£100 for both. Collect from Cheltenham or Banbury or post at cost.

General / Exhaust DB levels

Anyone know what the uk laws are regarding this. Was talking to guy up the street who has an 899 Panigale with termignoni exhausts, said it sounded well and asked if he was gonna take it on track...he rekons they are registered with something like 108db standard and he could have a job passing the noise regs even with stock exhaust...crazy


I know the fz1 is 95db static at 5500rpm and according to Scorpion its within 2db of this. Im not a fan noisy cans anymore and with the baffle in i find it about the same as stock in lower revs.


What i dont get is that all i can find about uk rules is a figure of 80db...is that supposed to be at idle or something? I think that would be struggle for lots of stock bikes.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Stock exhaust vs slip on

So while the mrs and my daughter were away for the day i was bored and decided to have a look at the stock end can thats sitting about. It was pretty tatty looking so I set about painting it just for something to do really. I keyed it in and used some halfords high temp black metallic stuff which actually ended up looking pretty good.


The exup valve needed a bit of persuasion and once freed and cleaned it was opening and snapping shut like new, so then I wondered what it would be like on the bike (plus getting it hot would properly cure the paint). The PO left cables on the servo so i hooked it all up and ran the diagnostics and it operated fine. Other than diagnostic mode i didnt see it operate once in neutral at revs but i think this is normal (or so ive read)


I thought it didnt sound bad at all, a different tone but no quieter than the scorpion with the baffle in. i took it out and i didnt really notice a drop in performance (although I hadnt ridden it for over a month) Still bored i thought id put the scorpion back on so i could test them back to back...this time i did notice a difference and it seemed to pick up a lot lower down the revs and just pull better all round...


So there you go, in my opinion the slip on wins out, looks better and is a lot lighter!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New owner rotor question

Hello, have just posted in the intro section...new 2008 fz1 owner, been reading up lots about them and wondered what the general consensus was regarding replacing the generator rotor with the updated version as a preventive measure? I note that the magnets coming off does happen although it seems relatively rare.


Also, if i was to replace it is there an opinion on the cheaper RM stator version which is about £220?

Hi there folks...just bought a lovely 2008 FZ1 ane have been reading lots on here about them. Ive always liked the look ofnthem and this will be replacing both my gear driven cam VFR800 and mk1 Bandit 1200, leaving just this and the Mrs XJ6 in the garage! Anyway ill head over to the technical forum to ask my first newbie question...
