I call myself a hardcore biker, bit this morning I left the Fz1 at home and stole the wife's car :D. It's too easy to het a tyre washout on a patch of ice and destroy your pride and joy. Sometimes it just ain't worth it.
I've ridden in -7, but it was dry and ice free at the time. That was cold enough for me!

Sounds like you had a good day out. As I always say "Every day is a good day to ride" glad to see you like the Gen 2  :D . A superb bike if you can put up with the naff fuel consumption :rolleyes

I've used bar muffs for the last 10 years, and they're superb, especially when coupled with heated grips. You can wear summer gloves all year round then. :D  OK, so you look like a right plank, but who cares? :rolleyes
Had a set of KTM handguards on my Tiger 1050 that I just got rid of, even they make a difference on their own. :)

Pretty morbid stuff. One guy at work watches www.theync.com sick stuff that you don't want to watch.

General / Re: On bike cameras-do they change the way you ride?
« on: 08 December 2012, 04:08:08 pm »
Doing the commentary generally knocks 10-15mph off your cruising speed. I only know this as I nearly failed my advanced test doing to it.  :rolleyes
And be careful using cameras on your bike. If you ride like a tw@ and get stopped by the law, they can use it as evidence in a prosecution. Likewise if you put it on YouTube doing silly things on the road. There have been several successful prosecutions retrospectively already :(

The fazer 600's are really good on juice. Did my 'ride like a nun' test on my old one and got something like 240 miles from a tank. I think it was about 60mpg.
Some of the bike magazines have reported about 70mpg  :eek :eek  now that would be a boring ride!

Right, just done a 'max mileage' test on the gen2. Covered 92 miles In 3 seperate rides over all road types. Stayed below 55 generally, rolled off the throttle early for hazzards, and changed gear at 3k, rarely going above 4k. No overtakes. Used 8.8 litres of unleaded! That equates to almost 50mpg :D :D

Thank god that's over, it was the most boring 3 rides of my life! :z :z :z

Now back to getting the EXUP working again, and finding the redline :D :D

If you have a dry day, don't spray your discs with cold water until they've cooled down a bit, it's not a great idea.....
Never did mine any harm after my 240 mile commute every friday, wash down with cold water then the same distance again on Sunday with a wash down with cold water.  :)  Did that for 5 years and never warped a disk.
But then again, what are you doing using the brakes anywway :evil :lol

I used to hose down my FZS600 with cold water, then spray all the metal bits with wd40. The bike looked as new when I sold it 45,000 miles later. :D

Just put the second tankfull of unleaded into my standard 10 plate gen 2, 12.6 litres with 102 miles on the trip. That works out at 33-34 mpg :eek :eek and I wasn't riding quickly either!!! Maybe I should have bought a gen 1 :rolleyes

I wore a padded workmans jacket over my bike jacket about 12 years ago through the winter on my long commutes. It's probably the warmest I've ever been on a bike, I almost fell asleep in the saddle once wearing it! :eek
It was very bulky, but you definately have to cut the hood off, or you can't move your head!

Yep, I drilled my own rear plates and dropped the forks through, hence why it was free. you can buy lowered rear plates for about 40 notes off the forum if your not mechanically minded, but the drop can be as low as 35mm which should be enough. :)

I rode a gen 2 a few years ago against my 98 R1 streetfighter, needless to say, I wasn't impressed at the time.

I took a part ex for my Tiger a few days ago for a 10 plate FZ1S after test riding, and wanting a gen1. I've got to admit, the gen 2 that I've got is comfy enough for my 6'1"  frame with a 36" inseam. It's pretty torquey, and blisteringly quick. Would I have preferred the gen 1?? Maybe, maybe not. Only time will tell. Truth is, test ride both, and see what suits your needs best
Keep your eyes peeled in the for sale section to find out if I get on with mine :D

I'll second that on the muffs. Used them for years throughout winter with Sumner gloves. Heated grips underneath them makes for very toasty hands! :D
Tempted by heated gloves, but I consider it as 'cheating' :D

I still use my old faithful Hein Gericke Gore tex voyager jacket for my 40 mile commute. I've done well over 100k in it, and its never leaked as far as I can remember, and as most of you, ridden through some monsoons.
My old commute was over 30k/year all year round with again, no leaks. I paid over £200 for my aerostitch trousers. They're awesome! Leaked once at the crotch but that was my fault for leaving my fly down :\.
Altberg field and trek boots never leaked apart from when I rode through a flood a bit too quick and the water went over the top.
As for gloves......... Not found that solution yet.

If your feeling flush, I'd seriously look at the roadcrafter suit by aerostitch. Very high quality kit that lasts for ever!

If it was the Tiger, they work better when they're lowered about an inch anyway(I did mine), and its cheap to do.

The guy that bought my tiger used to have a varadero, and rates the tiger above it. It's for one thing a lot better on fuel, and smoother power delivery. Go and have a test ride of each bud and convince yourself which is better.

How the Hell is it still running with the airbox underwater?

If you look at the side view at about 1'43" you can see he's got a hose running up from the air intake to above the screen (and a similar pipe from the exhaust).
Aaah, I see. I didn't watch it all. :o

Just px'd my Tiger 1050 3 days ago. Superb bike two up, but only with a couple of mods. My missus loved the Tiger'pillion seat, and the torque from that triple is just perfect for two up.

If you get a 10 plate onward, the suspension is better, a sub 10 plate needs the rear shock and spring off a Honda Blackbird to cope with the weight. The screen is noisy over 40mph, but the comfort is exceptional!

If I was touring, then I'd have another in the blink of an eye.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / bars and screen
« on: 01 December 2012, 09:01:53 pm »
Just picked up my FZ1S yesterday, and love the bike to bits! But there are a few minor points that I would like to adjust, just to make her perfect

Has anyone fitted alternative bars or extended them, as the factory ones seem a little narrow for my gibbon-like arms.
Also I have a touring screen fitted and get deafening turbulence from it. Any views on a better screen? When I lift my backside 3-4" off the saddle, it goes all quiet.
